I've been very pleased with the caring, helpful staff who truly get to know residents. The large, light-filled rooms and the clean, quiet, comfortable facility in a beautiful ocean/wooded location are a real plus. Chef-prepared meals (dining room or delivered), daily activities, and van/bus transportation make life easy in this small, homey community. Close to doctors and the hospital - I would recommend it to families.

Summary of reviews
Overall impression: Reviewers portray Hillside Place as a small, scenic assisted living and memory-care provider with several clear strengths and a handful of operational weaknesses. The facility's coastal, tree-lined setting, compact size (roughly 30–33 rooms), and a home-like atmosphere are consistently identified as positive features. Many families and residents praised the cleanliness and maintenance of the building and common spaces, as well as the secure, small-community environment that allows staff to become familiar with residents.
Care and staff: The most frequently cited strength is staff warmth and attentiveness; many reviewers described caregivers as caring, helpful, and responsive. That closeness appears to be aided by the community's small scale, which supports personalized interactions. At the same time, several reviewers described variability in care continuity tied to staffing levels and turnover. Specific operational themes included understaffing during some periods, uneven training or supervision, and concerns about staff conduct or responsiveness in particular situations. These issues are described as episodic rather than universal, but they have had meaningful impact on family confidence for some residents.
Dining and activities: Dining is commonly cited as a strong point when staffing and kitchen leadership are stable: chef-prepared meals, a large dining room, and an in-room dining option were noted positively. There are also organized daily activities, bingo, and scheduled outings supported by on-site transportation (van and bus). However, reviewers mentioned that meal quality and availability can decline when key kitchen staff leave, indicating a vulnerability in meal-service continuity. Activities and transportation are available and appreciated, though the small staff size can limit the scope or consistency of programming at times.
Facilities and services: The physical facility earns favorable comments for being light-filled and well maintained, with some residents in larger rooms and studios. Proximity to medical providers and hospitals was noted as convenient. The community is small enough to feel intimate and residential—many described a bed-and-breakfast or family-like vibe. At the same time, reviewers pointed to variability in room sizes and limited availability of private-space options. Some also referenced construction or expansion (memory-care unit), suggesting changing service offerings.
Management and operational patterns: Several reviewers described positive changes under new administration, including improved morale and service. Conversely, other accounts raised concerns about management instability, payroll and pay issues for caregivers, and communication breakdowns with families (including access to care plans). These management and morale issues appear to be drivers of other operational problems, such as inconsistent staffing, meal-service interruptions, and variable training. There were also mentions of restrictive visitation during infection-control events and uneven emergency or outbreak responses; these items suggest that policy implementation can vary depending on leadership and staffing conditions.
Practical takeaway: For prospective residents and families, Hillside Place offers many attractive qualities—an intimate, coastal setting; attentive staff when staffing is stable; chef-style dining; and active programming with transportation. Those considering the community should assess current staffing levels, recent leadership changes, and kitchen continuity during a tour; ask about care-plan documentation and family communication processes; and clarify visitation and emergency-response policies. Doing so will help weigh the facility's homelike strengths against the operational variability noted by some families.

About Hillside Place Assisted Living & Memory Care
Hillside Place Assisted Living & Memory Care sits at the base of a coastal hillside in Lincoln City, Oregon, just off Highway 101, and it's been providing care for seniors since the late 1990s in a quiet, clean, and safe environment. The community has 33 apartments, with 8 one-bedroom and 25 large studio options, each one including a kitchenette, a bathroom with a roll-in accessible shower, and emergency call devices in both the rooms and common areas. It offers assisted living and memory care services, with 24/7 personalized care and staff on site, including licensed nurses, caregivers, med aides, a beautician, housekeepers, dietary staff, and volunteers, all working together to make things comfortable and safe for residents.
The two-story building features wide hallways and lots of natural light, with cozy common areas, fireplaces, televisions, and a spacious dining room that has plenty of windows and a northwest-facing deck. There's a southeast-facing small deck where residents can enjoy views of the hillside forest. Residents can gather in the activity room or library and have easy access to community living areas, non-pay telephones, and restrooms. Apartments are wired for cable and phone service, and each one has electronic security features like smoke detectors and fire sprinklers throughout the building.
Hillside Place offers daily long-term care services for seniors, focusing on both physical and emotional well-being. It creates individualized care plans for every resident, updating them when needed, and supports seniors with daily living needs such as medication management, bathing, and dressing. The staff provides weekly housekeeping and laundry, and three dietitian-approved chef-prepared meals each day, with snacks available at all times. Vegetarian choices and alternative entrées are always on the menu, and room service can be arranged if requested. Residents can use on-site transportation services, including van and bus rides to doctor visits and group outings, with escorts for out-of-community trips.
The facility has dedicated memory care areas for those with Alzheimer's or other kinds of dementia, offering activities to help with cognitive engagement and keep everyone as independent as possible. Regular scheduled activities fill each day, with a focus on social, educational, and entertaining programs designed to help everyone stay active and involved, and there are devotional services onsite. There are inside and outside activity spots and outdoor spaces to enjoy the trees and ocean air. The staff stays in contact with families and works with the larger community nearby.
Hillside Place is a Medicaid provider, though it doesn't take Medicare, and has aging in place options, respite care for short stays, hospice support, and wheelchair accessible showers. Residents have access to beauty salon services onsite, library, activity spaces, parking, and easy access to bus lines. With its mix of assisted living and memory care services, caring staff, and pleasant natural setting, Hillside Place tries to keep things as homelike and peaceful as possible for seniors and their visitors.
