I've lived here 4½ years and it feels like a warm, resort-style forever home. Owner-operated leadership and a remarkably caring, competent team (nurses, caregivers, concierge) know residents by name and deliver excellent care, dining, beautifully maintained grounds, great amenities (health club, pool, trails) and a lively activities calendar. Overall outstanding in most ways - highly recommended.

Summary of reviews
Touchmark in the West Hills is consistently described as a high-end, well-maintained campus with thoughtfully designed living spaces and extensive amenities. Independent living experiences tend to be strong: reviewers highlight spacious apartments with full kitchens, attractive common areas, extensive grounds and walking paths, an on-site salon and bar, and multiple fitness options including pools and dedicated therapy/rehabilitation spaces. The community calendar is active, with concerts, classes, and frequent social opportunities that contribute to a vibrant resident culture.
Staff interactions elicit mixed but strong praise in many accounts. Numerous families describe warm, hospitable front-desk and concierge teams, compassionate direct caregivers, and long-tenured leadership that contributes to continuity in independent-living operations. At the same time, several families described staffing shortages, high turnover, and uneven performance in assisted-living and memory-care units. These operational constraints are linked in reviews to inconsistent personal-care delivery, gaps in clinical oversight, and delays in responding to family concerns.
Dining and hospitality are notable strengths for many residents: social dining, special events, and hospitality offerings such as coffee service and themed dinners are frequently mentioned. However, food quality and meal-service reliability receive mixed feedback; some families praise the cuisine while others describe inconsistent preparation and delivery. Ancillary services such as laundry and personal-belongings handling are generally functional but have been identified as an area where process improvements are needed.
Management and communication are recurring themes. Positive notes include visible leadership, effective new managers with industry experience, and staff members singled out for strong performance. Conversely, several families described challenges with responsiveness from management, unclear billing or fee increases, and failures to follow through on promised moves or program changes. Privacy and information-handling concerns — including visible room cameras and other PHI-handling issues — were raised and merit clarification prior to move-in.
Overall, the facility presents as an upscale, amenity-rich community that delivers a strong independent-living experience for many residents. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facility’s physical environment and programming strengths against mixed accounts of assisted-living and memory-care consistency. For those considering higher-acuity services, it is advisable to review unit-level staffing levels, clinical oversight practices, infection-control protocols, billing policies, and privacy safeguards and to request recent quality metrics or regulatory history before making a decision.

About Touchmark in the West Hills
Touchmark in the West Hills sits at 840 SW Touchmark Way in Portland, Oregon, and offers different kinds of care and living arrangements for older adults, so if someone needs independent living, assisted living, memory care, or even skilled nursing care, they can find help here, and people can move between levels of care without moving out of the community. There are cottages with their own entrances, apartments in studio, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, and even three-bedroom layouts, plus the Sky Lodge building, which has independent living units, a library, shops for woodwork and art, restaurants, bars, and spaces to gather. The apartments have kitchens, walk-in closets, and full climate control, so residents can feel at home, and the new Sky Lodge cottages have two bedrooms, two baths, and a study, set out as single-level homes. Touchmark covers daily needs by offering three places to eat on-site with a menu that changes by season, and there are special meals for those who need them because of health reasons, and chefs and meal planners come up with the dishes. There are plenty of amenities, like a fitness club with pool and spa, gardens, on-site vineyards, guest suites for visitors, salons, courtyards, outdoor spaces, a greenhouse, activity rooms, devotional programs, and offsite activities, and pets can live with residents, too. Staff provide assistance for people who need help with basic tasks, medication, non-ambulatory care, incontinence care, and diabetic care, and there's round-the-clock skilled nursing for folks who need it. For people living with memory loss, like Alzheimer's or dementia, there's a secure and special area just for them, with dedicated staff, and the team pays attention to safety and comfort for everyone in memory care. The community gives rides for shopping and errands, regular housekeeping, spiritual services, and programs aimed at life enrichment and wellness, with options including pickleball, swimming, art, and group activities, and the place has won awards for its kind staff, friendly setting, and known meal quality. Touchmark in the West Hills aims to give a safe, welcoming place with many choices for how and where to live, supported by staff guided by values like respect, caring, and hospitality. Room sizes go from cozy studios starting around 337 square feet to larger units up to 3,343 square feet, so there are plenty of options, and everyone has access to indoor and outdoor common areas, transportation, and a variety of community events.
