    Caring attentive staff, excellent facilities

I moved my mom here and have been very pleased. The privately owned community is accessible-owners and leadership talk with families-and the nursing staff is attentive and responsive 24/7. Meals are excellent (chef, snacks and ice cream available), rooms are comfortable and clean, and there are plenty of daily activities, rehab services and off-site outings with good communication from staff. The one-floor, home-like layout, age-in-place option and inclusive, transparent pricing made this a great fit for our family.

    Summary of reviews

DevonHouse Senior Living Allentown elicits a broadly mixed-to-positive set of impressions. Many families emphasize the facility's strengths in everyday care, hospitality-style dining, and an active social program. At the same time, a consistent cluster of operational concerns — principally around staffing stability, responsiveness, and certain administrative processes — appears repeatedly enough to be considered part of the facility's operational profile.

Care and staff: Reviewers commonly praise the nursing team and caregiving aides for being warm, familiar with residents, and available around the clock. Several accounts highlight nurses who proactively coordinate care with outside physicians, an on-site doctor in some cases, and the availability of on-site hospice and rehabilitation coordination. However, staffing consistency and turnover are recurring themes: families note frequent leadership changes and variable aide performance. Operationally, this translates into uneven service delivery for things like bathing and call-bell response times, with some reports of delayed assistance and gaps in bedside checks.

Dining and nutrition: Dining is a clear strength for many families. The facility's chef-prepared menus, fresh fruit, made-to-order options, and 24/7 snack availability are frequently mentioned positively. The restaurant-like dining room, themed events, family cookouts, and in-room dining options contribute to a hospitable mealtime experience. Limitations include a relatively small dining area at peak times and occasional inconsistencies tied to staffing or renovation activity.

Activities and community life: DevonHouse offers a broad, varied activity calendar — bingo, music, crafts, exercise classes, off-site excursions, picnics, and holiday programming are typical. The single-floor layout and small-community scale support frequent social interaction and a home-like atmosphere. Families appreciate accessible salon services, pet-friendly policies, and family-oriented events that encourage involvement.

Facilities and logistics: Physical accommodations range from large accessible rooms with handicap showers to smaller shared rooms and older-design layouts with fewer windows. The community benefits from a convenient single-level plan but also shows signs of being an older building that requires ongoing maintenance and periodic renovation. Laundry, transportation to appointments, and individualized laundry handling are positive logistical features; conversely, some reviewers describe personal-item management errors and occasional sanitation or odor concerns in specific common areas.

Management and notable patterns: The facility's private ownership and accessible leadership are viewed positively by many families, with owners and directors sometimes described as responsive and engaged. Nevertheless, leadership instability and frequent administrative turnover are consistent operational risks cited across reviews. Communication practices vary: some families report excellent, proactive updates, while others experience unclear points of contact and delayed return calls. Additional administrative concerns include billing and security-deposit follow-up in a few accounts.

Overall assessment: DevonHouse appears to provide a warm, activity-rich environment with strong dining and a compassionate core nursing staff. Prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against operational patterns around staffing continuity, responsiveness to call bells, memory-care limitations, and occasional administrative or personal-item management issues. For residents who prioritize restaurant-style dining, social programming, and a small, home-like community with 24/7 nursing, DevonHouse may be a good fit; for those with advanced memory-care needs or who require consistently rapid in-room response, families should discuss staffing ratios, fall-response protocols, and designated communication contacts before moving in.

    About DevonHouse Senior Living Allentown

DevonHouse Senior Living Allentown is a locally owned and managed community with over 25 years serving Lehigh Valley, and people have called it "The Heart of Hospitality," which seems fitting because the staff are friendly and pay close attention to small things, like meal seating. The facility offers all-inclusive senior living with assisted living, memory care, independent living, personal care, respite care, home care, and specialty clinical services. Residents can choose from shared, private, or couple accommodations, all with fully furnished rooms and private in-suite bathrooms. The one-floor design makes it easier for folks to get around, and there are no steps or tricky leveling, so wheelchairs and walkers move easily. Nurses and medical professionals stay on-site 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and they use electronic medical record systems and medication tracking to keep everything organized and safe.

DevonHouse builds care plans for each resident, with assistance for activities like bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility, plus medication management from licensed nurses. Residents can keep their current doctors or choose new providers, and there are on-site geriatrician support services, along with a mobile podiatrist and scheduled rides for medical appointments. They serve three chef-prepared, farm-to-table meals every day, and a certified dietitian approves the menus. Social and spiritual activities, live entertainment, and a daily recreation calendar keep people busy and help fight loneliness. The multi-purpose activities room, hair salon, and different floor plans help everyone feel more at home, and a wireless call system plus other safety monitors help folks feel secure.

Community events like the Olde Time Family Fair, daily recreation, and a variety of educational programs help residents engage socially, physically, and mentally. There's also concierge service and help for veterans with benefit paperwork. The care team aims for personalized attention, and people say the atmosphere is caring and welcoming, with respect for privacy and independence. The community has earned awards for care and involvement, showing a steady commitment to quality and kindness. Guided tours let new visitors see how the meals taste and what daily life feels like. DevonHouse is managed by The Hamister Group, Inc., which oversees several other communities, but this place has deep local roots and a strong focus on comfort, safety, and supporting each person's dignity in later years.
