I've been very pleased with the friendly, attentive staff - they helped with meals and wound care - and the newly refurbished, clean, cheery rooms and common areas. The food is good, there are regular activities and outings, on-site salon and transportation, and solid continuing-care options near Allentown; overall a well-run community I would recommend.

Summary of reviews
Miller Personal Care at 19th and Chew presents a mixed profile. Families and visitors commonly describe a clean, recently refurbished facility with pleasant common areas, private apartments, and an active social calendar. The campus offers an on-site continuum of care that includes assisted living and nursing/memory-care options, as well as convenient transportation services and amenities such as a barber/beauty salon. Many accounts emphasize friendly, informative staff and examples of effective clinical support in the memory-care and nursing units.
Care quality and staffing show a split pattern. Several families praised individual caregivers for compassion and hands-on assistance (including help with meals and positive outcomes on certain clinical issues). However, there are recurring operational concerns about inconsistent clinical oversight, delays in responsiveness, and variable staffing levels that can affect timeliness of care and communication with families. Some reports describe significant clinical escalations, including hospital readmissions and concerns following a resident's death; these instances point to a need for clearer escalation protocols, stronger care-plan follow-through, and more reliable family notification.
Dining and activities are strengths in many accounts. The facility hosts a range of social programs (picnics, bus trips, movies, bible study) and residents often find the atmosphere cheery and communal. Lunch and other meal components are frequently described as satisfactory, and staff support for special diets (pureed food assistance) is noted. At the same time, there are mentions of limited meal-service frequency and reduced dining flexibility, so prospective residents should verify current meal schedules and accommodation for individual dietary needs.
Facility amenities and operations are again mixed. Physical spaces are generally well kept, with newly refurbished rooms and attractive common areas, though apartment sizes are described as smaller than some alternatives. Practical issues raised include limited visitor parking, instances of lost personal belongings, and administrative problems related to Social Security paperwork, Medicare/billing questions, and financial coordination. Cost is another consideration: several families perceive pricing as higher than nearby options, and some experienced frustration with financial-staff responsiveness and accuracy.
For prospective residents and families: Miller Personal Care offers strong community programming, attractive facilities, and an on-site care continuum that can be advantageous for memory-care needs. At the same time, consider asking specific questions about current staffing levels and shift coverage, clinical escalation procedures, housekeeping schedules, meal frequency and special-diet accommodations, property-inventory practices, billing/benefits support, and parking availability. A guided tour that includes the nursing/memory unit, a review of care-plan processes, and conversations with administrative and clinical leads can help clarify whether the facility’s operational practices align with your expectations.

About Miller Personal Care at 19th and Chew
Miller Personal Care at 19th and Chew sits on the Phoebe Allentown campus in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and helps older adults with a wide range of care needs, including assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing. Staff are awake and available 24 hours every day, and a licensed nurse is on-site to help with things like bathing, dressing, taking medications, and moving from bed to a wheelchair, which is important for many residents. Miller Personal Care also helps people with diabetes by monitoring insulin and medication. Meals come from a chef and special diets are available, and guests can come during meal times, which is nice for families. There's a spacious indoor area with comfortable seats for relaxing, and outdoor patios and gardens that are well-kept, plus walking paths and garden spaces for fresh air, and a dining room that looks over the city. Residents can join activities like music groups, arts and crafts, and weekly events in the common rooms or outside on trips, and there are game nights too. The building offers studio apartments and semi-private rooms, each with a private bathroom, and six companion suites for those who want to live together, and room layouts sometimes include kitchenettes. There are 49 furnished rooms and the community can care for up to 60 people, with private and shared options, and a few pets are allowed. Both in-house and home care services are available and the Comforting Home Care by Phoebe program helps people who want to live more independently, plus there's an in-house hair salon, housekeeping, laundry, parking for both residents and guests, and transportation to scheduled events or medical appointments. So people with short-term care needs can use the respite care program, giving families a break or temporary help. There are on-site physicians, dedicated gyms for rehab, access to behavioral health services, a health library with information and symptom checkers, and a telehealth program for virtual doctor visits with Lehigh Valley Health Network. The place is licensed by the state and the nursing home section has a 4-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. Miller Personal Care uses an all-inclusive price structure, though prices aren't published, and you can pay by check. Community details, availability, and planning support come with help from SeniorAdvisor.com. Some reviews on that site are first-hand, and the community rates 7.5 out of 10, sitting as the 16th highest-rated in Allentown. The facility supports both English speakers and people who need extra help with memory care, and the activities, meal plans, help with medication, secure building, and focus on personalized care make it a careful but down-to-earth place for older adults wanting support, whether for daily living, memory help, or a safe, social place to be.
