    Smooth transition and caring staff

I was hesitant to move my mother-in-law here, but after a smooth, well-managed transition we're both much happier and wish we'd done it sooner. The staff and administrator are caring, professional and informative; the spacious, clean apartments (in-unit laundry option, ample closets) plus plentiful activities, outings and transportation make daily life easy and welcoming. Friendly residents, well-kept grounds and many amenities - I'd recommend taking a tour.

    Summary of reviews

LECOM - Parkside at Westminster presents as an independent‑living community with a strong emphasis on social engagement, apartment quality, and a welcoming staff culture. Reviewers consistently describe friendly, professional staff and a long‑tenured, knowledgeable management team that facilitate move‑ins and handle administrative questions smoothly. The overall environment is characterized as clean, well‑kept, and inviting, with many residents expressing satisfaction and recommending tours.

Care quality is aligned with an independent‑living model: staff are praised for being responsive and supportive for day‑to‑day needs, and safety features such as emergency pull buttons are present in apartments. However, the community does not provide on‑site skilled nursing or robust clinical services; families seeking medical care beyond assistance with activities of daily living should plan for off‑site providers. Reviewers also cited limited evening and weekend staffing, which suggests that after‑hours responsiveness and clinical support may be constrained.

Dining is a mixed area. The facility appears to offer periodic food events (breakfasts, holiday meals, and event concessions) and some residents enjoy Tuesday meals and social food offerings, but there is no consistent full dining program included with rent. Several commenters noted inconsistent messaging about which meals are included and which carry extra charges, and some described dining policies that felt restrictive. Prospective residents should clarify current meal options, event costs, and participation requirements during a visit.

Activities and resident life are clear strengths: a broad calendar of programming (music, holiday parties, bingo, concerts), frequent field trips and shopping runs, bus transportation for appointments and errands, fitness and gaming/social rooms, and outdoor walking paths and courtyards. These offerings contribute to an engaged, congenial community atmosphere and the presence of a waiting list suggests steady demand.

Facilities combine older construction with selective renovations: apartments are described as roomy with full kitchens, balconies, and closet space, and there are upgraded units with a more modern, hotel‑style finish. Common areas (activity room, sunroom, library, coffee/wine bars) are well maintained. The property’s central location near retail and services is convenient for errands.

Notable patterns for prospective residents and families: confirm the scope of health‑care services available (on‑site vs. off‑site), get written clarity on dining policies and any ancillary charges, and ask about staffing levels after normal business hours. Overall, the community appears well suited to independent seniors who value active programming, apartment amenities, and a friendly staff, while those needing regular clinical oversight or 24/7 on‑site care should consider other settings or supplemental services.

About LECOM - Parkside at Westminster

LECOM - Parkside at Westminster sits in the heart of southwest Millcreek, Erie, PA, in a quiet, park-like setting with tall maple trees, colorful gardens, and green spaces, with 76 roomy apartments spread across three stories, most having big living rooms, patios or balconies, and fully equipped kitchens with one or two bedrooms and lots of closet space. Residents find helpful staff, a clean environment, and well-kept buildings, and many appreciate the homey feeling, especially since cats and dogs are allowed. The variety of care levels means folks living here can choose independent living, assisted living, memory care, or even home health services if that's needed, and people can age in place with support through the LECOM Institute for Successful Aging. Units are wheelchair friendly, some have walk-in tubs and stackable washers and dryers, and there are options for older adults looking for senior apartments, condos, or townhomes.

People have plenty to do, with activities like art and cooking classes, day trips, educational speakers, entertainment, lifelong learning programs, fitness and wellness offered through LifeWorks Erie, and religious services including Catholic and Protestant options with a chaplain visiting. Community programming focuses on helping folks live healthy and active, and the common rooms and outdoor areas give places to meet friends, join social events, or try new hobbies. Technology services include senior-friendly internet and cell phones, plus Wi-Fi in apartments, and there are safety features like medication dispensers and medical alert systems from Bay Alarm Medical, ADT, and Medical Guardian. Meals, personal care, and medical support are part of the program too, with geriatric health services, outpatient therapy, pharmacy, and even the Visiting Nurses Association offering home care and hospice support.

The campus is close to shops, cafes, theaters, the Erie Art Museum, Presque Isle State Park, and public transportation, so people can get out and enjoy the city or the lakefront. Parkside at Westminster is part of the larger LECOM Senior Living system, which offers more choices nearby in Erie, Millcreek, and North East, including skilled nursing, memory care, and rehabilitation at places like LECOM Senior Living Center and others if more support is needed. The whole community sticks to giving respectful, ethical, and empathetic care, and stays active in health education and outreach for the Erie region. Community resources, advocacy, and behavioral health recovery programs are also available, and the staff have a good reputation for making residents feel welcome and supported through every stage of aging.
