    Friendly staff, peaceful wooded community

I live here and am very happy with my choice. The staff are consistently friendly, caring and responsive; my spacious, bright apartment is clean and comfortable. There are frequent activities, easy ways to make friends, a cozy small-community feel in a peaceful, wooded setting near Juniata College and downtown Huntingdon, and staff who go the extra mile.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive, with recurring emphasis on friendly staff, a small and welcoming community, well-kept facilities, and active social life. Reviewers consistently describe Westminster Woods as a bright, clean, and beautiful place to live — often using words like spacious, open, and peaceful. The community feels cozy and home-like, situated in a wooded location near Juniata College and downtown Huntingdon, which reviewers cite as a convenient and pleasant setting.

Care quality and staff performance emerge as some of the community's strongest attributes. Nursing staff are repeatedly called friendly, caring, knowledgeable, and attentive. Multiple reviewers highlight instances where staff "went the extra mile," treated residents as very cared-for, and answered questions honestly. The administration is portrayed as welcoming and candid; one specific policy that reviewers mention positively is the effort to keep residents in their homes until they become unsafe to themselves or others, which signals a commitment to resident-centered transitions and continuity of care.

The physical accommodations receive consistent praise. Housing options include spacious single-family houses (reported as roughly 1,350–1,700 sq ft), a small set of apartments (one- and two-bedroom), and assisted-living one-room efficiencies. The facility itself is described as bright, clean, and above average, with rooms that are larger than those at some other facilities. Additional on-site amenities noted in reviews include a guest cottage and the unusual benefit of free college courses for residents, which supports intellectual and intergenerational engagement.

Dining and food-related feedback is largely positive but not without caveats. Meals are provided and reviewers mention this as a convenience; however, there are a handful of minor complaints about food quality or variety. Importantly, reviewers also note that staff are responsive when food is an issue and have tried to help address residents' preferences or concerns, indicating a willingness to adapt and respond to individual needs.

Activities and social life are highlighted as strengths. Residents report frequent activities, community events, organized games, and opportunities for participation that make it easy to make friends. There is mention of a dedicated exercise leader and accessible options such as magazines, puzzles, and community games, all of which contribute to an active, engaged atmosphere consistent with a small, friendly community.

A few practical limitations appear across reviews and are worth noting for prospective residents. The community is small — reviewers frequently describe it as cozy or limited in size — and that is mostly framed as a benefit, but it does also mean a limited number of apartments (about ten) and assisted-living efficiencies that are one-room units, which may not suit everyone’s space preferences. Aside from minor dining complaints, there are no consistent reports of major service failures or systemic problems.

In summary, Westminster Woods presents as a well-regarded, small senior living community with strong personal care, attentive and honest staff, above-average and spacious accommodations, and a lively activity program. Its peaceful wooded location near local amenities and the presence of unique offerings (guest cottage, free college courses) enhance its appeal. The primary points for prospective residents to weigh are the small scale of the community — and the corresponding limited apartment inventory — and occasional minor concerns about dining options. Overall, the reviews portray a warm, responsive community where residents feel cared for and socially engaged.

    About Westminster Woods

Westminster Woods sits in Huntingdon, PA, right in a quiet, wooded area, and belongs to Presbyterian Senior Living, a nonprofit running several retirement communities, so you'll find a steady place with experienced folks in charge, and they've got their own website where you can find everything about the services they give, so if you want to get a sense of what to expect, the website walks you through every care option and explains the team. The community's a Life Plan Community, offering independent living apartments and villas for people who want to keep their own space, plus assisted living, personal care, memory care for folks with Alzheimer's, skilled nursing, transitional care, end of life and comfort care, and those at-home help services, so people can get just the kind of help they need when they need it. They've set up affordable apartments for seniors aged 62 and over with low or moderate income, so more people have a chance to find a place, and the floor plans include private suites, sitting rooms, and bathrooms with speaker systems, while the villas have sunrooms and garages, all tucked in natural surroundings. Westminster Woods also provides physical, occupational, and speech therapy, plus supervision, medication help, family counseling, hospice, and respite care, which means people and families get a lot of support in tough times when it matters most, and there are local guides and resources families can use if they're figuring out care options. Seniors can join lifelong learning classes, go walking on safe paths, try their hand at gardening, exercise in the fitness center, or just spend time at the terrace community center, and the onsite beauty and barber salon keeps things convenient, especially for folks who want to stay looking sharp without leaving campus. They keep busy too, with regular social activities like art shows, concerts, poetry readings, and even some athletic events for those who feel up to it, and groups can set up tours, group experiences, or special events since the place has venues and plans weddings and other occasions, which is something you don't see every day at a retirement community. Community life here means being able to tap into both support and activity, so whether someone needs skilled nursing or wants to enjoy walking through the trees, there's a steady mix of choices at Westminster Woods in Huntingdon.
