    Compassionate, attentive staff and rehabilitation

I'm very pleased with the caring, attentive staff - nurses, aides and therapists were compassionate and responsive, and the PT/OT got my father back on his feet. The facility felt clean and well-managed, activities and transportation were well coordinated, and communication with family was reassuring; we're grateful for the supportive care.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews describe a facility with strong rehabilitation capabilities and many individual staff members who provide compassionate, resident‑centered care, but also recurring operational weaknesses that families should evaluate carefully.

Care and clinical quality: Physical and occupational therapy are consistently highlighted as a major strength; multiple accounts credit therapists with measurable functional improvement. Nursing and aide staff receive frequent praise for compassionate bedside care and helpfulness, though reviewers also describe variability in clinical execution. Notable clinical concerns include missed or delayed medications, questions about medication dosing and handoffs, and inconsistent monitoring of residents identified as at risk. Fall‑related incidents and transfers have been raised as safety issues, suggesting gaps in transfer protocols and fall‑prevention practices.

Staff and teamwork: Many reviewers name individual staff (nurses, CNAs, concierge, unit clerks) who were attentive and communicative, and administration is sometimes described as accessible and responsive. At the same time, there are repeated comments about poor internal communication between departments, inconsistent teamwork, reliance on agency or temporary staff, and staffing shortages that affect continuity of care and timely responses to resident needs.

Dining and nourishment: Food opinions are mixed. Some families find meals acceptable, while others report limited menu variety, repetitive offerings, carbohydrate‑heavy meals, and a lack of fresh fruits and vegetables. A few reviewers noted that kitchen staff were empathetic but constrained by menu choices, indicating an operational area for improvement.

Activities and social environment: The activities program, including religious services and social offerings, receives positive feedback. Families and residents appreciate opportunities for engagement, and a few staff members are singled out for their efforts to involve residents. Requests for specific activities (for example, Bingo) and for more outdoor access were noted, indicating interest in expanded or more consistent programming.

Facilities and cleanliness: Cleanliness and facility upkeep are described in mixed terms. Many reviews praise clean common areas and helpful housekeeping staff; others identify sanitation and odor concerns in some units and note that some resident rooms and furnishings appear dated and in need of refurbishment. Noise control (shared‑room TV volume) and building aesthetics are additional, lower‑level concerns.

Management and communication: Administrative responsiveness is a recurring positive when families feel heard and accommodated. Conversely, several reviews describe inadequate family notification about incidents, inconsistent incident follow‑up, and poor coordination with hospice or specialty providers. Staffing instability and accountability gaps are cited as contributing factors. There are also isolated but serious allegations concerning missing personal items and concerns following a resident's death; these items point to potential security and end‑of‑life coordination weaknesses that warrant direct inquiry.

Patterns for prospective families: If rehabilitation outcomes and active therapy are primary priorities, the facility demonstrates clear strengths. Prospective residents and families should, however, probe operational areas during tours and admissions discussions: ask about current staffing levels and turnover, medication administration protocols and handoff procedures, fall‑prevention measures, incontinence and hygiene checks, hospice coordination processes, meal menus and options for special diets, and measures the facility takes to secure personal belongings. Balancing the facility's strong therapy services and many committed staff against the documented operational weaknesses will help families make an informed decision.

About River's Edge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center

River's Edge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center sits overlooking the river, giving residents a quiet spot with green outdoor patios where people can relax and talk, and you'll find the rooms here are spacious, well-appointed, and offer modern comforts, while common areas feel cozy and home-like with things like cable TV, internet access, and a computer room for easy use. The center offers both short-term and long-term care with 40 certified beds and an average of 117 residents each day, giving people options whether they need a quick recovery, specialized memory care, or more support over time, and they have specialized areas in the building set up so different needs are met, including memory care for folks with Alzheimer's or dementia, and sub-acute rehab for those recovering from illness or surgery. Nurse staffing is solid but a bit below state averages at 3.53 nurse hours per resident per day, but the nurse turnover is lower than average at 40%, and staff-including 24-hour nurses, part-time support, and expert care partners-work on continuous training to keep up with the best ways to care for residents. There's a strong focus on activities like arts and crafts, movie nights, group outings, and table games, and the on-site fitness center offers classes for all mobility levels to keep everyone moving, plus there are wellness programs, gardening, and guest services like meal options and visitor parking for families coming through. Religious services, help for veterans, salon services, pets, all-inclusive rent, and hospice or psychiatric care are part of the mix, which means residents can expect their daily needs handled with some attention to personal comfort and dignity. River's Edge uses individual care plans to help residents keep some independence, and care partners act as advocates to make sure people get what fits best, whether it's rehab after surgery, medication reminders, memory therapy, or personal cooking services. The dining experiences are meant to be social and comfortable, with communal dining rooms, room service options, and guest meals allowed. There have been deficiencies found in areas like life quality, nutritional support, food handling, and infection control, with some noted that residents didn't always get enough food or fluid, and waste disposal practices weren't always right, though no serious harm's been recorded, and most issues affect only a few people. The facility reports 42 total deficiencies and one infection-related violation, which lines up with federal inspections, and those details matter for families looking into health standards. River's Edge holds an accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and is a for-profit facility owned mostly by Abraham Kraus. The staff works with specialized therapies and modern rehab tools, and memory care programs include tailored activities to help with cognitive and emotional health. Residents get home-like comfort with upscale touches, planned social events, guest options, and a steady focus on keeping health and happiness at the front, while staff work hard to match care to each person's physical or emotional needs, offering support for independence and dignity along the way.
