    Compassionate, professional rehab; homelike atmosphere

My mother had a rehab stay at Brentwood and we were very pleased. The staff were consistently kind, attentive and professional, PT/OT got her back to baseline, rooms and common areas were clean and comfortable, meals were good, and the home-like, family atmosphere gave us real peace of mind - I would recommend Brentwood for long-term care.

    Summary of reviews

Brentwood Nursing Home elicits a strongly mixed but patterned set of impressions. Many families and former residents praise the facility for compassionate, attentive caregiving and a strong therapy program that supports rehabilitation and return-to-home outcomes. The dining program and meal quality receive frequent positive remarks โ€” reviewers highlight variety, daily options, and the facility's willingness to provide special meals. Activities programming, holiday events, and accessible outdoor spaces with bay views contribute to a home-like, family-oriented atmosphere that several families found comforting.

Clinical care is described in both positive and critical terms. On the positive side, reviewers commonly note timely medical attention, proactive nursing follow-up, and around-the-clock availability. The therapy (PT/OT) department is repeatedly singled out for effective treatment and successful recoveries. However, there are recurring operational concerns: staffing levels appear inconsistent across shifts, and reviewers describe variability in staff training and conduct. These issues correlate with reports of inconsistent monitoring, lapses in personal-care routines (including bathing schedules), and occasional medication-management problems. There are also specific mentions of sedative prescribing patterns and medication errors that suggest room for stronger pharmacy oversight and medication-administration controls.

Facility and housekeeping observations are similarly mixed. Many reviewers describe the building as clean, bright, and well-maintained, with pleasant dining rooms and the advantage of outdoor, bayfront spaces. At the same time, some accounts indicate uneven sanitation and housekeeping performance in particular units, and supply shortages have been cited as affecting day-to-day care. Reviewers also identify a notable quality gap between the therapy wing โ€” generally described as newer and better equipped โ€” and the long-stay wing, where smaller rooms and variable cleanliness were more often noted.

Management and communication present another clear pattern of strengths and weaknesses. Families praise accommodating staff, flexible visitation, and a family-owned operational style that can feel personal and supportive. Conversely, several reviews describe breakdowns in communication: inconsistent callbacks, front-desk and phone-service issues, and uneven responsiveness from leadership. Billing transparency and unexpected charges or insurance-coverage surprises were also mentioned, indicating a need for clearer financial communication at admission and discharge.

Overall, Brentwood offers many features that attract families seeking robust rehabilitative care, good food, and an engaged activity program in a pleasant setting. At the same time, persistent operational challenges โ€” most notably inconsistent staffing, training and supervision gaps, medication-management concerns, and variability in housekeeping and personal-care practices โ€” suggest areas for focused improvement. Prospective residents and families would benefit from targeted questions at tour and admission: inquire about staffing patterns for the specific unit, medication-safety protocols, how the facility manages personal belongings and laundry, and whether the unit you are considering has the same amenities and staffing as the therapy wing. These clarifications can help align expectations with the facilityโ€™s variable strengths and weaknesses.

    About Brentwood Nursing Home

Brentwood Nursing Home sits over on Post Road in Warwick, RI, and it's been family-run for a long time, which you can kind of tell by the way the place feels warm and comfortable, not like some big corporate chain. The place has 68 apartments for folks who want a studio, a stateroom, or a one-bedroom, and they've got private rooms if that's what you want. The community offers a wide range of care, with nursing, assisted living, and memory care, so people with all sorts of needs, from those who just want some help to those who need 24-hour care or dementia support, can find a spot. The staff includes nurses, caregivers, and activity coordinators, and you often see them helping residents with medication, personal care, or giving a hand when somebody needs daily living assistance. Brentwood runs a solid range of services-long-term care, hospice, recovery services, skilled nursing-and folks who've got physical or mental health conditions that need supervision can stay here safely. The place underwent recent renovations, so you'll see modern touches in the apartments, common areas, and outdoors.

There's a feeling of home throughout, whether you're in the recreation room, reading in the library, or sitting out in the gardens. Activities go on every day-a lot of residents look forward to bingo, chair aerobics, and scenic rides on the bus, along with arts and crafts, religious services, bowling, cookouts, and even birthday parties or movie screenings. Folks get mail, magazines, and packages delivered right to them, and most rooms are ready for private phone lines if people need to stay in touch. For grooming, a beauty and barber shop's there, with qualified beauticians and barbers making regular visits, and a podiatrist comes to trim nails and keep up foot health. There's also physician, dental, dietary, laboratory, pharmaceutical, and radiology services-practically everything, and specialists from MDwell come by for extra needs. Meals come restaurant-style and are set up to meet special diets if needed. The home has a bus for outings and appointments, and staff run all sorts of programs, along with a Resident Council so residents can talk about things they'd like to see changed or improved. Brentwood holds steady as a place trying to match independence with a worry-free life, and it keeps up with insurance help and expert care advice for older folks and families. The setting aims for a feeling of dignity and comfort, with special memory care areas for folks with age-related cognitive needs, outdoor spaces and inviting common areas, and all sorts of equipment available-wheelchairs, walkers, and the like-to make sure people can move around as they need. You'll find a place that pays close attention to details and keeps care personal and steady, day and night.
