    Compassionate clean homey recovery stay

I spent a recuperative stay here and was impressed - owners and staff (nurses, CNAs, PT/OT, kitchen and dining) were compassionate, attentive, and quick to respond, respectfully supporting my independence while helping me recover. The facility is very clean, homey and quiet with activities and a chapel; rooms are small but adequate. I'm grateful for the family-like atmosphere and would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews present a divided picture of Sunny View Nursing Home, with clear strengths in rehabilitation services and a number of staff- and culture-related positives, alongside recurrent operational concerns that affect safety and consistency of care.

Care and staff: Many families praised the facility’s nursing assistants, therapists, and owners for compassionate, attentive care and a hands-on management style. Physical and occupational therapy were repeatedly described as effective for post-hospital rehabilitation, and several accounts highlight staff who encourage recovery and independence. At the same time, there are repeated accounts indicating understaffing and delayed assistance, inconsistent professionalism from specific staff members, and concerns about communication with families. These operational issues manifest as delays in attending to residents, inconsistent bedside interaction, and variable follow-through on care plans.

Dining and activities: Dining receives mixed but generally positive feedback; numerous reviewers described meals as good and dining-room staff as friendly, while others indicated inconsistent meal quality. The facility’s activities program, including arts-and-crafts, chapel, and social programming, is a consistent positive, contributing to a home-like and cheerful atmosphere for many residents.

Facilities and hygiene: Several reviewers noted that the building is older but rooms are adequate and common areas are often clean and well maintained. Conversely, there are specific concerns about sanitation and pest control in some resident rooms and dining areas, odor concerns in limited spaces, and lapses in infection-control practices including PPE adherence. Reviewers also raised safety-related facility issues, specifically window-lock/fire-egress concerns that merit prompt evaluation.

Medication, property, and safety: Multiple comments raise concerns about medication management (missing doses and possible inappropriate dosing) and about personal-property security, including missing clothing. These issues, combined with inconsistent personal-care provision (including delays in attending to residents’ hygiene needs), indicate gaps in clinical oversight and inventory/property controls.

Management and patterns: Ownership and some managers are described as engaged and responsive by many families, which is a notable strength. However, other accounts describe dismissive or unprofessional conduct from specific supervisory staff and inconsistent discharge planning or abrupt discharge actions that left families dissatisfied. There are also isolated serious claims about unsafe or improper staff conduct; such allegations, while not uniformly reported, highlight the need for careful review of staff training, supervision, and incident-handling processes.

Bottom line: Sunny View offers strong rehabilitation services, a warm activities program, and attentive ownership in many cases, making it a potentially good option for some residents—particularly those seeking post-hospital rehab. However, recurring operational issues (staffing levels, inconsistent professionalism, sanitation and infection-control gaps, medication management, property security, and certain safety hazards) have been raised often enough that prospective residents and families should conduct targeted inquiries during a tour. Recommended pre-admission questions include staffing ratios and schedules, infection-control and pest-control protocols, medication-management procedures, property-loss safeguards, emergency egress and window safety, and examples of how the facility handles family communication and discharge planning. Observing staff–resident interactions in person and reviewing recent inspection reports will help clarify whether the facility’s strengths outweigh its operational risks for a given resident’s needs.

    About Sunny View Nursing Home

Sunny View Nursing Home sits at 83 Corona Street in Warwick, Rhode Island, and has served the community for over 50 years, offering skilled nursing and intermediate care to frail residents who need around-the-clock help, and it helps with both long-term needs and short-term rehab between the hospital and home, while also supporting hospice care. The facility has 57 certified beds and usually about 50 residents a day, with private rooms that have private bathrooms, cable TV, kitchenettes, telephones, air conditioning, and high-speed Wi-Fi, and it tries to make everyone feel at home with a homelike atmosphere for the aged. Sunny View offers nursing, dietary, pharmacy, social service, and activity needs through a team approach, so there's always a focus on resident comfort, safety, and wellness, with skilled nurses available 12-16 hours every day, a 24-hour call system, physical, speech, and occupational therapies, and help with bathing, dressing, transfers, and medications.

Residents can enjoy daily activities like bowling, birthday parties, one-to-one visits, movie nights, religious services, computer and internet access, as well as community outings, exercise and wellness programs, and arts and games in common areas like the movie theater, fitness and wellness room, spa, library, arts and game room, and even outdoor spaces with walking paths and gardens. The professional chef prepares meals every day, with all-day dining options, restaurant-style service, and accommodations for special diets, including allergies and diabetes, plus there's mail, newspapers, packages, magazines, and even a daily paper for those who want to keep up with the news, and the on-site beauty/barber shop and visiting beauticians and barbers handle hair and grooming, while a podiatrist stops by regularly for nail trimming and foot care.

Sunny View offers nursing home care, post-acute rehabilitation, convalescent care, and a variety of services, and supports residents with rental or purchase options for wheelchairs, crutches, walkers, and braces. The facility also has transportation and parking, so getting to appointments or seeing family isn't hard, and there's a resident council and family support to help with adjusting and sharing ideas. Social services help residents settle in by gathering life experience information, and activities aim to keep everyone socially, emotionally, and physically active.

Owned by Louis Gellis with Joseph Pollack managing since June 2022, Sunny View is a for-profit limited liability company affiliated with Eden Healthcare and Eden Hospice, and accepts Medicare and Medicaid, which helps many families with financial planning. Inspections in March 2025 found 10 deficiencies, including nutrition and dietary standards and some issues with resident assessment and infection control, with a total of 28 documented deficiencies in all inspection reports, although nurse turnover is 37.9%-lower than the state average-and nurse hours per resident per day sits just below the state average at 3.77. Sunny View says it's committed to caring for every resident with compassion and respect, making sure support is there, even as it works to address areas that need improvement from its inspection reports.
