    Immaculate facility, attentive compassionate care

I'm very satisfied with Lexington Extended Care. The facility is immaculate, welcoming and comfortable - spacious lobby, screened porch and peaceful outdoor areas - and my mom received exceptional, attentive care; staff were caring, communicative with regular updates, and helped her regain ambulation without oxygen. Mom loved the food and we felt comforted during her final days; choosing LMCEC gave our family real peace of mind.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Lexington Medical Center Extended Care present a polarized picture: many families describe caring, capable staff members and positive clinical outcomes, while others raise significant concerns about operational consistency. Strengths cited include attentive aides, skilled therapy teams that achieved meaningful rehabilitation for some residents, pleasant common spaces (a roomy lobby, screened porch and outdoor areas), and organized social programming. Several reviewers also noted reliable family communication, modern therapy tools, and effective hospice support during end-of-life care.

Care quality reviews vary considerably. Positive accounts emphasize individualized, respectful bedside care and successful therapy progress. Conversely, a substantial theme is inconsistent delivery of basic care tasks and monitoring: delayed attendance to calls, inconsistent bathing and repositioning routines, and concerns about incontinence-care delays and pressure-injury risk. Medication administration and clinical follow-up are described as inconsistent in multiple accounts, and some families reported delayed recognition of acute medical changes. These patterns point to gaps in on-floor clinical supervision and escalation pathways during staffing shortages.

Staffing and workforce issues are a recurring driver of other concerns. Reviewers frequently identify chronic understaffing, high resident-to-CNA ratios, frequent staff turnover, and low morale as root causes that affect timeliness, continuity of care, and the overall resident experience. At the same time, many reviews single out individual aides, nurses, and therapists as conscientious and effective, indicating variability in staff performance rather than a uniform culture. Communication style and professionalism were uneven; some families experienced respectful interactions, while others described sharp or dismissive tones during interviews and care discussions.

Dining and housekeeping feedback is mixed. Positive comments reference varied menus and satisfactory meals on some visits, but there are recurrent complaints about inconsistent food quality, temperature control, and occasional food-safety concerns. Housekeeping and room maintenance are generally acceptable in common areas and some rooms, yet other accounts describe lapses in daily room upkeep and inconsistencies between units. Property-handling also emerged as a concern, with reports of missing personal items and administrative follow-up shortcomings.

Activities and facility amenities are strengths when well staffed: reviewers highlighted engaging programs, music, social spaces, and therapy-equipped exercise opportunities. However, dependent residents were sometimes described as receiving minimal engagement, suggesting programming may be targeted more effectively to higher-functioning residents when personnel are limited. Physical facility features โ€” clean rooms, outdoor seating, and a calming environment โ€” were frequently praised, though reviewers noted variability in room amenities and privacy limitations in semi-private accommodations.

Management and administrative themes include inconsistent policy enforcement, turnover in leadership, problematic admissions and discharge processes, and at times poor responsiveness to grievances. These operational weaknesses were commonly cited as exacerbating frontline staffing problems and reducing families' confidence in the facilityโ€™s ability to address serious concerns. Several reviews called for regulatory attention; others recommended smaller, more tightly staffed homes for residents with higher dependency levels.

Overall, Lexington Medical Center Extended Care appears to deliver high-quality care in many instances, particularly when staffing is adequate and experienced personnel are on shift. The predominant pattern in negative reviews centers on inconsistent staffing and supervision, which ripple into medication management, timely clinical response, daily care routines, dining, and administrative reliability. Prospective residents and families should weigh the facilityโ€™s strong amenities and therapy capabilities against variability in day-to-day care delivery, and consider visiting during different shifts and speaking directly with nursing leadership about staffing, escalation procedures, and accounts of clinical oversight before making placement decisions.

About Lexington Medical Center Extended Care

Lexington Medical Center Extended Care sits at 815 Old Cherokee Road in Lexington, SC, and belongs to the Lexington Medical Center network, which connects it to many nearby medical offices and services, so folks can get care right on-site if they need it, and they've got strong links to hospital services when something serious comes up, plus on-call physician support. The place focuses on long-term nursing care, short-term rehab, and special memory and dementia care, even a skilled nursing wing for those with Alzheimer's disease and other memory concerns, and they've got a spot called Carroll Campbell Place just for residents who need more help with memory challenges. The Marian Carey Rehabilitation Center is part of the same spot, which means people needing therapy after surgery or illness can stay short-term, get the physical, occupational, or speech therapy they need, and then head home once they're stronger. The folks there say they craft personalized care plans for each resident based on their needs, and their care team focuses on recovery, independence, and restoring well-being, so someone might have their own care program with regular check-ins and adjustments as needed to improve quality of life. They don't have a long public list of amenities, but they do offer meals, housekeeping, and attention to daily needs, and during nice weather, memory care residents can relax outside by a quiet pond, under the trees, or near a fountain, and park benches are set out for resting or visiting with others. The facility believes in a community feel, hoping to make things feel warm and friendly, and there are activities to keep people busy and social whenever they want to join in, even if that's just sitting outdoors or having a meal together. While exact building and apartment details, utilities, parking, or policies aren't listed anywhere public, the focus stays on safe, steady medical care tied in closely with Lexington Medical Center's bigger health system. There's no appointment needed for visits, families can come by anytime, and the staff talks with residents and families about care options, therapies, staff background, and insurance or billing straight through their office, making paperwork and questions easier. The extended care unit accepts various insurance and takes care of health documents, advance directives, and other paperwork, trying to make the medical side of things simple as possible. Their goal's to help folks regain health and independence whether the stay's long or short, and they try to do that in a safe setting that's as close to home as they can manage, even if it's on the calm side when it comes to frills.
