    Compassionate professional care for Mom

I've trusted this community with multiple family members for seven years and am very grateful for the compassionate, professional staff who treat residents with dignity. Alicia and Wendy were invaluable with admissions and transfers, the physical therapy and care teams are diligent with regular progress meetings, and staff are responsive-quick to call family and even stay with Mom to ensure she eats. The facility is clean, comfortable, well-kept, meals are good, and management is responsive; overall I'm relieved and very pleased with the care.

    Summary of reviews

Families describe a facility with clear strengths in hands-on care, rehabilitation and family communication, alongside operational inconsistencies that produce highly variable experiences. Positive accounts emphasize compassionate, professional caregivers who prioritize resident dignity and maintain active communication with families, including after-hours updates. Reviewers note proactive interdisciplinary care planning — regular progress meetings, coordinated therapy goals, and an engaged physical-therapy team — that in many cases supported measurable improvement and successful transitions home. Specific staff members were credited with helping coordinate admissions and transfers, which several families found helpful during stressful transitions.

Dining and therapy services receive mixed but notable praise. Multiple comments highlight higher-quality meal options and amenities that support rehabilitation, such as therapy suites and a sauna. At the same time, other families experienced unsatisfactory meals, indicating variability in menu execution or timing. The facility’s rehabilitation capability is a recurring positive when therapy is delivered consistently; when therapy follow-through was lacking, families reported slower progress.

Operational weaknesses center on inconsistent staffing and cleanliness practices. Several accounts describe delays in responsiveness and instances where staffing levels appeared insufficient to meet resident needs promptly. There are also specific sanitation and pest-control concerns at the room level and in resident storage areas, which point to uneven housekeeping and environmental controls. Relatedly, some families raised concerns about wound management and infection-prevention practices; these comments suggest opportunities to strengthen clinical oversight and standardized protocols for wound care and infection control.

Communication and management performance are described unevenly. Many families praised responsive leadership and staff who treat residents respectfully, but others reported problems with the tone and professionalism of front-line staff or divergent experiences across facility locations. This pattern indicates variability in staff conduct and in how policies are enforced from unit to unit. Prospective families should ask about staffing ratios, infection-control protocols, wound-care procedures, and recent inspection or quality-review outcomes when evaluating placement.

In summary, White Oak Manor Newberry demonstrates substantial caregiving and rehabilitation strengths, with clear examples of positive family engagement and effective therapy programs. However, inconsistent staffing, variable cleanliness and pest-control practices, and sporadic lapses in clinical follow-through are recurring themes that warrant investigation. Families seeking placement would benefit from an in-person review focused on staffing levels at the unit of interest, current sanitation and pest-control processes, documented wound-care and infection-prevention protocols, and opportunities to meet the immediate care team prior to admission.

    About White Oak Manor Newberry

White Oak Manor Newberry, sitting over at 2555 Kinard Street in Newberry, South Carolina, is a private, family-owned senior living community that's part of the White Oak network, and folks there can find assisted living, independent living, memory care, short-term rehabilitation, and a large 146-bed skilled nursing center all under one roof, which means if someone needs help just with daily things like bathing, dressing, or taking medicines, or if they're looking for full nursing home care with therapies and medical supervision, staff cover all that with registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, and certified nursing assistants available around the clock, supervised by a physician, and the place meets federal standards for Medicare and Medicaid, so veterans can also use VA benefits like Aid and Attendance to help pay for care. People who need extra help because of memory problems like Alzheimer's can get care in a safe area that's designed to help with confusion and wandering, and they put a focus on both social and physical well-being, so there are always games, arts, religious services, outings, and other ways for residents to join in if they feel like it, and meal services offer healthy food. The staff at White Oak Manor Newberry are often described as kind and joyful, creating a welcoming environment for residents and their families and, with help from senior living advisors on site, it gets easier for families to understand what options are best. There are private studio room layouts for people who live there, and while it's only the third highest rated senior living community out of three in town and has an average score of 7 out of 10, it still holds a 5-star nursing home rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services and is often mentioned for good activities and overall recognition. Things like dental, podiatry, eye care, mobile x-rays, laundry, transportation, a library, and hair salon services are available too, and folks can join family or resident councils if they want. Therapies run seven days a week and support is wide-ranging, including orthopedic, cardiopulmonary, stroke, back injury, wound care, amputee recovery, ultrasound, electrical stimulation, diathermy therapy, dysphagia, speech language for memory and cognition, as well as prosthetics and orthotics training, with special focus on making discharge and transitions safe if care needs to change. Administrator Melissa Gilliam oversees the place, and the website has more information for those wanting details.
