    Friendly clean caring active community

I'm a resident and feel right at home - caring, attentive staff, very clean and comfortable rooms, and delicious, ample meals. There are plenty of activities (dominoes, crafts, puzzles, Bingo, holiday events and birthday celebrations), an engaged director and helpful PT team (Kelly helped my knee), and delivery convenience. It's a friendly, family-run community that gives me peace of mind; I highly recommend it, with only a few minor areas for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Knopp Retirement Center is consistently described as a small, family-owned facility with a quiet, home-like atmosphere and a staff-oriented culture. Many accounts emphasize compassionate, attentive caregiving delivered under RN clinical oversight, with staff described as going “the extra mile.” The center’s management and long-standing ownership are associated with a family-style environment that many residents and families find comforting.

Care and clinical services: Clinical and rehabilitative services receive largely positive comments. Reviewers cite an engaged RN director, capable nursing and tech staff, and effective physical-therapy support for short-term rehabilitation (knee-replacement rehab called out positively). Several comments note good collaboration with hospice providers and regular check-ins on residents’ wellbeing, contributing to families’ peace of mind.

Staff and culture: The staff culture is a recurrent strength. Descriptors include compassionate, helpful, and family-like interactions; employees across nursing, therapy, kitchen, and housekeeping are repeatedly praised. Activities staff are credited with bringing creativity and energy to programming; staff responsiveness and convenience of services (including accepting deliveries) are seen as practical benefits.

Dining and nutrition: Dining impressions are mixed and appear inconsistent across time or units. Some reviewers describe delicious, ample meals and positive dining experiences; others describe cafeteria-style presentation, limited meal variety, and a lack of fresh fruit and vegetables. Beverage availability (including bottled water) and meal presentation are specific operational areas of concern. Prospective residents should confirm current menus, meal service style, and availability of preferred dietary options during a visit.

Activities and social life: The facility offers an active social calendar at times — daily entertainment, themed events (holiday parties, murder-mystery nights), games (dominoes, bingo), crafts, and monthly birthday celebrations are noted. At the same time, activity availability is described as variable; some accounts indicate limited programming during certain periods. The activities director is viewed as a strong asset when engaged.

Facilities and safety: Physical spaces are generally described as clean and well maintained, with spacious rooms and large closets. However, observers also note aging decor, low or poorly fitted furniture, and specific safety concerns when residents enter/exit or during transfers that may be related to furniture height or threshold design. Periodic water-service interruptions are mentioned and can affect daily living if not promptly resolved.

Management and operational patterns: The center’s family ownership and hands-on managers are highlighted as positives, but a subset of comments raises concerns about operational cost-cutting and understaffing that affect service responsiveness and program availability. These concerns are reflected in variable meal quality, occasional activity gaps, and perceptions of limited resources. Prospective families should ask about current staffing levels, contingency plans for water-service interruptions, meal sourcing, and recent updates to furnishings and safety features during a tour.

Recommendation guidance: Many families and residents strongly recommend Knopp for its caring staff, rehabilitation capability, and home-like environment. At the same time, the facility shows variability in dining, activity frequency, and some maintenance areas. Visitors would benefit from targeted questions about meal plans and presentation, staffing patterns, water-service reliability, and specific safety accommodations to ensure alignment with their expectations and care needs.
