    Warm attentive staff; excellent rehab

I'm very pleased with the warm, attentive staff and clean, home-like facility - everyone knows residents by name and truly cares. The rehab team helped my loved one regain strength and go home, meals and activities are lovely, and management is proactive and responsive; renovations are making the place even nicer, so I happily recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Across the collected reviews Renaissance Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center is consistently praised for its direct-care teams and rehabilitation programs. Families and patients frequently highlight compassionate, attentive nursing and CNA care, and many describe measurable therapy gains from the facility’s physical and occupational therapy services. Skilled nursing and rehab outcomes are cited repeatedly, with multiple mentions of residents regaining mobility or returning home. Reviewers also note strong support services such as housekeeping, laundry, maintenance, and outpatient therapy that contribute to daily comfort and discharge readiness.

Staff performance and culture are a central strength in these accounts. The facility is described as having a warm, family‑like atmosphere; office staff, activity directors, nurses, therapists and maintenance staff are named positively and credited with proactive communication, individualized attention, and community engagement. Activities programming is broad — including socials, arts and crafts, Bingo and special meals — and volunteer involvement and community events are frequent. Reviewers also cite availability of hospice and palliative care and generally positive family communication during transitions and long‑term placements.

Dining and facility condition are other notable areas. Interior common areas and resident rooms are repeatedly described as clean and recently renovated with modern interior design; laundry and meal service are characterized as timely and home‑style, with multiple comments about the quality and appeal of food. These interior improvements contrast with recurring observations about the facility exterior: reviewers point to neglected landscaping and a dated exterior appearance that diminishes curb appeal.

Operational and clinical patterns deserving attention appear sporadically amid the largely positive commentary. Several accounts raise concerns about wound‑care management, indicating a need for consistent clinical protocols for specialized care. There are also indications of weaknesses in personal‑asset security and incident management, and a number of reviewers describe variability in administrative responsiveness and follow‑through when concerns are raised. Finally, although the interior has been modernized, the facility is described in places as older and not highly technology‑driven, which may matter for families seeking a cutting‑edge clinical environment.

Overall, the pattern across reviews is favorable: strong direct care and rehabilitation, engaging activities, clean and updated interiors, and a community‑oriented staff are repeatedly emphasized. Prospective residents and families should weigh those strengths against the identified operational weaknesses — particularly specialized wound care, personal‑asset security practices, administrative consistency, and exterior/campus maintenance — and discuss these topics specifically during tours and care-planning conversations.

About Renaissance Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center

Renaissance Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center sits in Italy, Texas, and you'll find it run by Nexion Health, with daily life focused on nursing care, rehabilitation, and helping people reach the best level of independence possible. Residents receive help from a team of licensed nurses, certified nursing assistants, and skilled therapists who treat conditions like arthritis, diabetes, sports injuries, and Parkinson's disease, doing their best with both short-term recovery and long-term care, and paying special attention to those with Alzheimer's, dementia, or other memory concerns through dedicated programs. Folks get round-the-clock support for pain management, wound care, and personal needs, and everyone gets three meals and snacks each day in a regular dining room or a private one, depending on their needs or wishes, while the facility offers semi-private rooms with cable TV, Wi-Fi, and relaxing common areas like a garden room, sitting spaces, and even a movie theater where people gather for entertainment or social events like birthday parties through the Nexion Neighbor Program. Rehabilitation takes place on site for both inpatient and outpatient needs, using state-of-the-art equipment, with individualized care plans shaped to fit each person, and there's telemedicine if a resident wants to see a doctor virtually. Renaissance has amenities for comfort and hosts animals since it's pet-friendly, and staff work to help make the place feel like home, supporting folks with activities and a strong sense of encouragement. The center has 74 certified beds, an average daily census of 60 residents, and accepts residents for both short- and long-term care at any hour. You'll find direct owners and managers tied to Nexion Health At Italy, Inc., with the West Wharton County Hospital District holding part ownership, and staff include skilled nurses who cover shifts every day, though recent inspection reports do show some areas needing attention, with 7 deficiencies, including issues with infection control and pharmacy services, listed in the June 29, 2023 inspection, and the nurse turnover rate sits a little above the state's average, while nurse staffing hours are a bit lower than average, so the team does what they can to take care of everyone despite these challenges. Renaissance emphasizes safety, comfort, and quality of life, offering help for those needing skilled rehab, long-term nursing, or just something to keep them active and well day by day.
