    Warm, personal care and homey

I'm very happy here - warm, sweet staff and the owner is on-site 24/7 so care feels personal. Three delicious home-cooked meals daily (with dietary accommodations), snacks, RN-supervised meds, and activities/outings like movies, therapy dog visits, and family dinners. Large, charming private apartments with living area and bath, clean and homey, locally owned and reasonably priced - staff know residents individually. I feel well cared for and would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

St. Angelus is presented consistently as a small, locally owned assisted-living option with a home-like atmosphere and hands-on management. Reviews emphasize a high level of personal attention, driven in part by the owner’s continuous presence on site. That operational model appears to contribute to continuity of care, competitive pricing, and stability in monthly rent over time. The facility's scale and staffing model also appear to limit total capacity, with limited bed availability noted.

Care and staff are among the strongest themes. Reviewers describe warm, personable caregivers and praise staff responsiveness and the overall quality of daily care. Clinical oversight includes RN-supervised medication administration, which suggests a basic level of clinical governance appropriate for assisted living. The combination of small resident census and active owner involvement appears to generate close familiarity with individual residents and a personalized care approach.

Dining and social life receive mixed but generally positive mention. Meals are characterized as home-cooked, fresh, and nutritious, with snacks and dietary accommodations available; family-style celebration dinners are highlighted as a social benefit. Social programming is described variably: some accounts list regular outings, movies and therapy-dog visits, while others indicate limited or inconsistent activity offerings. Prospective residents and families should clarify current activity schedules and typical participation levels during a tour.

Facilities are described as clean, calm, and well-maintained, with large private apartments that include living areas and private baths. The overall aesthetic is characterized as homey, elegant, and charming. Management is hands-on and locally based; that brings advantages in responsiveness and price stability but also creates an operational dependence on owner involvement, which can limit staffing depth or specialized services. The facility appears to prioritize high-value assisted living rather than broad clinical specialization.

In summary, St. Angelus is likely to suit someone seeking a small, intimate assisted-living setting with strong personal attention, high-quality home-style dining, and active owner oversight. Families who require extensive clinical services or frequent, varied programming should verify those offerings directly. Because of limited capacity, early inquiry is advisable for those considering placement.

    About St. Angelus

St. Angelus sits in Oak Hill, San Angelo, Texas, and you'll find it's a small, homelike community designed for just 11 residents, which means staff can really get to know everyone and provide kind, attentive care in a more peaceful setting than the big places. They accept several payment types like private pay, social security, veteran's benefits, and private insurance, but there are extra fees, for example, $750 a month if a second person shares a suite, and the cost for a two-bedroom place sits around $2,250 per month, and they've got rooms of all sizes-from studio up to two-bedrooms, some shared and others private, all with big closets and private baths that have large walk-in showers and tubs for those who need it. Residents live in suites where it's easy to move around if you use a wheelchair, and the community is pet-friendly, so they allow cats and dogs, and even offer some pet care, and there's a real family feeling, since the owner is often on site and staff hang around at all hours, ready to help with things like bathing, dressing, laundry, and medication, which is supervised by a nurse and included in the set fee.

St. Angelus provides various types of care, including assisted living, respite, memory care for those with Alzheimer's or dementia, diabetic and non-ambulatory care, and even aging in place, so residents can stay as their needs change, but the care here supports a medium level, so they help with transfers from bed to wheelchair and some health services, but they expect residents to be able to get out during emergencies and don't provide round-the-clock intensive nursing. Meals feature balanced, home-cooked dishes, three times a day plus snacks, and are made to match special diets like kosher, vegetarian, or low-salt, all eaten together in a dining room filled with sunlight or taken back to private rooms if that's preferred. The building offers shared indoor and outdoor spaces, like walking paths, gardens, lounges, and places for games and social gatherings, and you'll find devotional activities both onsite in their chapel and out in the community, plus things like therapy dog visits, local entertainment, movie nights, and games for those who like to join in. Family celebrations happen sometimes, too, and everyone can visit with nurses or take part in daily activities that keep the mind and body busy.

There's a strong focus on safety and well-being at St. Angelus, with 24-hour awake staff and the added watchful eye of the owner, plus a nurse is always available, so you know help is never far if needed, and the facility is licensed by the Texas state authority (license #148504). Residents have access to transportation for medical appointments, shopping, outings, or just getting to the bus line, and there's parking for drivers. The community stays welcoming for those over 55, with some choosing independent living and others needing more help, and although the facility doesn't offer the breadth of big chains, the small size means everyone's often treated like family, which many appreciate as they get older. St. Angelus doesn't broadcast activities too loudly, but regular movie nights, scheduled outings, and visits from local entertainers and therapy animals help create that vibrant neighborhood feeling, while local restaurants, cafes, and shops sit close by for folks who like getting out. If you're looking for basic, honest care with extra comforts rather than luxury, and you want a smaller place where caregivers know your name, St. Angelus has become a trusted name in San Angelo for those seeking a calm, supportive, and straightforward community.
