    Attentive compassionate staff family-like community

My father lives here and I'm very pleased with the attentive, compassionate staff and warm, family-like community - residents are happy and stay engaged with activities like Spurs games, cards and bingo. Rooms are clean, laundry and meals are reliable, visits are easy, and I feel he's safe and well cared for; overall I'm very satisfied and comfortable recommending this community.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The collected reviews portray a facility with consistently positive day-to-day care characteristics alongside isolated but serious concerns about administrative communication and post-mortem handling. Many comments emphasize a warm, family-like environment supported by attentive caregivers and active owner involvement. At the same time, at least one account describes a significant breakdown in how the facility communicated with and acknowledged family members after a resident’s passing; prospective families should seek clarity on related policies.

Care and staff: Reviewers frequently describe staff as compassionate, attentive, and friendly. Caregivers are characterized as engaging with residents, supporting family involvement, and creating a home-like atmosphere. Multiple summaries note residents appearing happy and well looked-after. While the overall tone about caregiving is positive, there are indications of variability in administrative responsiveness that could affect how clinical concerns or family questions are escalated.

Dining, housekeeping, and facilities: Reviews convey that meals are generous and residents are well fed. Housekeeping and laundry services are highlighted as reliable, and resident rooms are described as clean and well maintained. The facility is portrayed as safe and orderly, with routine operations that families found straightforward to navigate during visits.

Activities and social life: The program of activities appears active and varied, with mentions of organized events such as sports viewing, card games, and bingo. Reviewers indicate staff members engage residents in social programming and that there is a palpable sense of community and social connection among residents.

Management and communication patterns: Management impressions are mixed. Several accounts praise the owner’s hands-on approach and the supportive tone from leadership, but at least one reviewer alleges obstructive behavior and bias from management when family members sought contact or information. A single reviewer raised a serious concern following a resident’s death involving delayed notification and limited family coordination; this account suggests gaps in post-mortem procedures and family communication that merit direct inquiry.

Notable patterns and recommendations: Strengths center on staff quality, social programming, cleanliness, and a family-like culture. The primary operational weaknesses inferred are inconsistent family communication and gaps in end-of-life coordination. Prospective residents and their families should ask the facility for written policies on family notification, end-of-life and post-mortem procedures, escalation pathways for clinical concerns, and examples of how management handles disputes or access requests. Requesting recent references from current resident families and clarifying who the primary points of contact are for clinical and administrative issues can help evaluate whether the facility’s positive day-to-day strengths align with the family’s expectations for transparency and communication.

    About Ihcs Residential

Ihcs Residential sits on Pebble Forest Drive in a quiet neighborhood in San Antonio, Texas, about six miles from Windcrest and close to hospitals, churches, and doctor offices, and it looks like they serve seniors in a small, home-like setting with up to 11 beds. The facility offers both private and semi-private rooms, some with wheelchair accessible showers or private baths, and all rooms are fully furnished, so folks don't have to worry about bringing much with them except personal things. Staff helps with bathing, dressing, bathroom needs, and incontinence care, and they're able to give insulin injections and manage medication if needed, and some residents may have 24-hour alert caregivers, depending on individual needs, which is important for peace of mind.

The facility features everyday meal services with home-cooked food-including vegetarian options-served in a private dining room where residents can enjoy friendly talks and social time. There's a comfortable family room with cable TV, a reading room, and community spaces both inside and outside, so people can relax, watch movies, or get some fresh air. There's a monitored and secured building for safety, and an outdoor garden for those who like to spend time in the yard.

Residents can expect a regular schedule of activities and wellness programs, like exercise classes, music therapy, crafts, board games, animal therapy, movie entertainment, and outside trips, and the staff organizes devotional and community events at night. Transportation and parking are available, and staff can help with rides to doctor's appointments, errands, or church services. A traveling hairdresser visits to help residents with their personal care, and daily housekeeping and laundry services keep things tidy.

Ihcs Residential holds a medium care community license from the Texas Department of Social Services and is set up to provide several types of care: Assisted Living, Memory Care, Hospice Care, and Respite Care for short stays. They focus on personal attention, diabetes and medication management, specialized diets for conditions like hypertension, and provide both assisted living and adult residential care. The staff also says they can help with two-person transfers for those who need a little more support moving around.

The community has a small, family-operated feel, with staff on site day and night, and offers a respectful, dignified environment. There's support for multilingual communication, which can help residents who speak different languages. The facility's average review rating is 2 out of 10, so that's something to keep in mind. All in all, Ihcs Residential offers a simple, comfortable setting, a range of care types, and tailored support for seniors who need help with daily life but want to keep a sense of home.
