    Spotless facility; compassionate, attentive staff

I placed a loved one at Carrington Place and overall I'm very pleased. The facility is spotless and welcoming, staff are compassionate, attentive, and responsive (therapy and social-work teams were especially helpful), and meals and activities kept my family member engaged - giving us genuine peace of mind. I would recommend Carrington Place and would consider returning if needed.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Carrington Place at Botetourt present a broadly polarized picture: many families describe a clean, modern facility staffed by caring, personable employees and active therapy and activities programs, while other accounts describe operational weaknesses that materially affected care. The facility's physical environment and communal programming receive frequent praise โ€” visitors and residents commonly note tasteful decor, engaging events (seasonal activities and animal interactions were cited), and a generally family-friendly atmosphere. Several reviewers also highlighted accessible social-services leadership, therapy staff who worked with families, and on-site physician availability on multiple days per week.

Care quality and staffing emerge as the most variable domains. Positive reports describe compassionate, attentive caregivers who remember residents and provide meaningful family communication; negative reports describe inconsistent clinical care, delayed responses to resident needs, and long wait times for assistance. Staffing levels and turnover are recurring operational themes: reviewers linked perceived staff shortages to delays in attending residents, missed or late medication administration, and uneven attention at night and on weekends. Related safety issues include concerns about transfer and mobility practices and instances where families felt supervision or response times were inadequate.

Dining and nutrition also show mixed experiences. Several accounts praised kitchen staff and specific meals, while others described cold food, limited menu choices, missed dietary substitutions (including for diabetes), and inconsistent meal delivery. Housekeeping and laundry controls were likewise inconsistent: many reviewers reported a well-maintained environment, but others noted cleanliness issues in rooms, missing pillows or linens, and lost clothing items, indicating variability in routine housekeeping and inventory processes.

Management and operational oversight were described as visible and supportive by some families, and as inconsistent or insufficient by others. Positive comments named specific staff in social services who were proactive and communicative. Conversely, other reviews cited low management visibility, unclear accountability for problems, and breakdowns in discharge planning or coordination (missing assistive devices, poor discharge instructions). Documentation and privacy-process weaknesses were also raised, including concerns about medication charting and privacy practices. A limited number of reviewers raised more serious allegations regarding medical or financial misconduct and privacy lapses; these reports were less frequent but significant in their implications.

In summary, prospective residents and families are likely to find strong positives at Carrington Place โ€” a modern facility, active programming, and many committed staff โ€” alongside notable operational risks that appear to vary by unit, shift, and individual staff assignments. Key patterns to probe during a tour or intake include staffing ratios and turnover, medication administration protocols, housekeeping and laundry procedures, dietary accommodations, discharge/transition workflows, and how management documents and responds to incidents. Observing care during different shifts and speaking directly with social services and nursing leadership can help clarify whether the facilityโ€™s strengths will consistently meet a prospective residentโ€™s needs.
