    Welcoming clean engaging caring community

I'm a family member and have been very pleased with the welcoming, family-like atmosphere and genuinely caring, professional staff. The facility is spotlessly clean, residents are happy and engaged with abundant activities and on-site services, and the peaceful outdoor areas are lovely - overall a very good place I'd recommend.

    Summary of reviews

The Virginia Home is characterized primarily by a strong, resident-focused culture: reviewers consistently highlight caring, engaged staff who create a family-like atmosphere and support independence. Staff are described as compassionate, respectful, and personable; front-desk and clinical team members receive frequent praise for friendliness and responsiveness. Multiple accounts cite positive clinical outcomes (improved weight, healed pressure injuries, successful therapy), steady rehabilitation support, and a high level of hands-on attention that contributes to family confidence and peace of mind.

Facility-level amenities and environment are also commonly praised. The building is described as clean and well maintained, with useful on-site services such as salon services, dental and physician visits, and plentiful indoor amenities. Outdoor spaces, including park and lake views, are noted as pleasant features that enhance resident quality of life. Programming appears robust: there is an active social calendar, volunteer engagement, transportation to local shopping, and a general emphasis on keeping residents occupied and socially connected.

Areas of operational concern emerge in a minority of accounts and are worth probing before a placement decision. Several reviewers described breakdowns in routine communication and inconsistent follow-up from administrative staff. There are mentions of lapses in personal-care scheduling (for example, delayed bathing assistance), gaps in documentation processes (including difficulty obtaining or tracking specific records), and occasional maintenance issues such as unreliable elevator service. A subset of comments raises more serious administrative concerns, including allegations of theft and dishonest conduct; these are singular but significant and suggest asking the provider about financial safeguards, incident reporting, and regulatory history.

Taken together, the pattern is one of generally strong, compassionate caregiving and a lively, well-serviced environment, tempered by occasional operational weaknesses in administration, documentation, and maintenance. Prospective residents and families who prioritize a warm social culture, active programming, and accessible on-site services are likely to find these strengths appealing; those who require strict documentation practices, regular respite availability, or guaranteed consistency in personal-care timing should seek clarification from management and request evidence of corrective actions, staffing levels, and maintenance logs prior to moving in.

    About The Virginia Home

The Virginia Home sits in Virginia as a long-term care community for adults with permanent physical disabilities, offering 130 beds, all in private rooms, and run as a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization licensed by the Commonwealth, and it's known for loving, lifelong residential care for people who need nursing home support under Medicaid laws. The Chief Executive Officer is Mr. Douglas H. Vaughan, Jr., while William E. Coleman administers operations, and the care team works with a strong member-to-resident ratio of 1.8 to 1, which means residents usually see familiar faces helping them every day. Residents receive person-centered care focused on dignity, dedication, and compassion, with nurses and care staff available 24 hours to handle daily needs or emergencies, and daily services like housekeeping and laundry keep things clean and comfortable for everyone. The facility meets the needs of those needing nursing facility or skilled nursing facility care, offering physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and you'll find wheelchair repair and maintenance on site, so mobility issues can get addressed quickly when they come up. The Virginia Home tracks efficiency indicators to compare its own performance and see where things might get better, and residents benefit from restorative services, individualized case management, and dietary and nutritional counseling tailored to their unique needs, which is especially important for folks with ongoing health concerns. The nursing services cover various health needs, and medical staff assist with advanced therapies and help with activities of daily living, plus private daily room rates are $369, and during the last fiscal year, there were 46,605 patient days recorded, showing the steady care that goes on year-round. People living here have access to cultural, recreational, social, therapeutic, and educational programs, both inside the community and out in the local area, and staff can also help with employment opportunities or offer counseling for residents and their families when they need support. You can use Facebook to log in or sign up for their services, but there's a login system that asks anyone accessing certain services to sign in so they keep residents' information safe. The Virginia Home remains a place where folks with irreversible physical disabilities can expect steady, professional care in a setting that values privacy, safety, and a sense of community.
