    Felt at home, excellent care

I felt at home from day one - compassionate, friendly staff across nursing, therapy, dietary and social work; very good rehab and therapy, tasty meals, clean landscaped grounds and varied activities. Overall a very positive, supportive place I would return and recommend.

About Richfield Living - Town Center

Richfield Living - Town Center sits at 3730 Richfield Lane in Salem, Virginia, and has a nonprofit status with 501(c)(3) classification, multiple years of Form 990 filings, and about 698 employees as of 2023, so it's a pretty large operation with a lot going on day to day. The place has assets over $112 million and provides a full range of senior living options, from independent living and assisted living to nursing care, memory care, and even home care services. Folks will find programs for each stage of aging, making it easier for them and their families to figure out the best type of care whether someone needs basic help or more skilled nursing, and that's useful because needs can change quickly as people age or when health issues pop up out of nowhere, and having a flexible setup with everything under one roof does make things simpler. Studio, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom apartments-some with sunrooms, balconies, and even private garages-are available, and the monthly fees cover things like utilities and cable, and if anyone wants to bring a pet or needs the place to be smoke-free, they're set, because pets are allowed and the air is kept clear. Campus security runs around the clock, and residents can ride complimentary buses to shops, banks, doctor appointments, or to just get out for some fun; plus, all the lawn care and snow are managed, so there's no need for shovels or mowing anymore.

The community offers both private and common spaces-there's always a spot for a quiet cup of tea or a lively board game-and it's equipped with an indoor heated pool, wellness gym, a non-denominational chapel, BellaVue salon/spa, and walking paths for anyone wanting either social time or a bit of peace with mountain views, especially from the Anser Café. Activities are always listed on a calendar, ranging from fitness classes and games to live music, crafts, guest speakers, day trips, and movie nights, with outings to restaurants, museums, and theaters, even bingo and picnics, because people need things to look forward to. Dining options include all day and restaurant-style dining, and menus allow for allergy-sensitive or diabetes meals, plus vegetarian choices, so no one has to feel left out or worry about special diets, and if there's ever a special event coming up, Club Friendship or the Bistro '66 inside the Friendship Health & Rehab Center is there to serve meals and host gatherings.

Memory care includes features like safety systems, personalized care plans, and activities designed to stimulate memory, and the staff supports both residents and family caregivers, helped by support groups, a 24/7 helpline, and educational resources on dementia. Those needing help with dressing, bathing, taking medicine, transferring, or extra medical monitoring will find professional staff onsite at all hours, and the on-campus physician clinic can handle wellness visits, health reviews, and some urgent needs, so folks don't always need to leave the community for care. You'll find home care services and an adult medical day care program for those who prefer to stay at home or need only part-time help, and if someone needs rest after surgery or serious illness, rehab and therapy are offered as well as a Transitional Care Unit. Laundry, housekeeping, and even help coordinating the move-in process are included, with private and community rooms set up for both quiet time and group fun-gardens and picnic spots outside, plus an emergency alert system and community-sponsored activity program inside.

The apartments can be roomy, with sunrooms, terraces, or patios, and floor plans have names like Villas, Lake Retreat, Knollwood, Lake Estates, and Ridgecrest, which may appeal to people who like a little choice in how they live. Respite, hospice, and medical equipment services are available, so if caregivers need a break or if someone's health takes a turn, there's a plan in place. There's onsite beauty and barber services for folks who want to look their best without leaving home. Residents can count on simple amenities like air conditioning, phones, and well-kept community spaces for socializing, eating together, or just relaxing.

Funding options at Richfield Living - Town Center include Medicaid, Medicare, private insurance, long-term care insurance, and private pay, and month-to-month leases offer flexibility for those who want or need to move. Staff in the community work to build a friendly, home-like atmosphere where residents can join social groups, invite friends and family for meals, or simply enjoy a comfortable and safe environment. The facility partners with resource groups like VirginiaNavigator and others to help families stay informed and connected, and educational guides, books, and videos are part of the resource library. With so many care types-independent living for those 55+, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, rehab, therapy, and even in-home support-residents and families can count on some stability as their needs change over time, with a focus on safety, routine, and staying connected to others.
