    Clean, safe, compassionate family-centered care

I'm very pleased with this clean, well-kept, welcoming facility - it feels safe and orderly. Staff are friendly, compassionate, and responsive (call lights are answered); the receptionist, nurses, rehab team and knowledgeable DNS all help, leadership has deep experience, and Brandi K. made my loved one feel truly cared for and part of the family. Overall, a very good family-centered place for care and rehab.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews describe a facility with contrasting strengths and significant operational concerns. Positive comments emphasize a clean, orderly building, a welcoming, family-centered atmosphere, and many staff members who are described as friendly, compassionate, and responsive. Clinical leadership is frequently cited as experienced and knowledgeable, and rehabilitation services receive favorable mentions. Several families conveyed strong individual appreciation for particular caregivers and therapists.

Care quality: Experiences vary. Some accounts describe attentive nursing with timely responses to call lights and compassionate daily care. Other accounts raise concerns about inconsistent clinical practices: gaps in routine monitoring and documentation, variable wound-care practices, and interruptions to established medication regimens without clear family notification. These issues suggest uneven clinical oversight rather than uniformly poor careโ€”strengths in some shifts or units coexist with lapses in others.

Staff and culture: Direct-care staff are often described as warm and supportive, contributing to a family-like environment for many residents. At the same time, there are repeated concerns about training and staffing: skill and competency gaps, inconsistent application of policies, and occasional curt or unhelpful communication with families. There are also administrative questions tied to the facilityโ€™s CNA training program and its payment terms, which have contributed to dissatisfaction among trainees and families.

Facilities, equipment, dining, and activities: The physical plant is generally described as clean and well-kept, and rehabilitation services are highlighted positively. Complaints center on bedding and pressure-relief equipmentโ€”some residents found mattresses or overlays uncomfortable or ill-fittingโ€”and on inconsistent availability of appropriate support devices. There is limited commentary about dining and activities in the reviews provided; the prevailing observations relate more to room comfort and therapy services.

Management and operations: Leadership receives mixed feedback. Several reviewers praise experienced administrators and clinical directors, while others identify weaknesses in administrative follow-through, inconsistent policies, and poor communication regarding care-plan changes, transfers, and consent processes. Infection-control practices and safety-meeting follow-through are specifically called out as areas needing improvement. A small number of serious individual concerns, including events around unplanned transfers and end-of-life outcomes, prompted strong family distress and underscore the importance of clear communication and robust incident response protocols.

Notable patterns and guidance for prospective families: The pattern is one of variabilityโ€”many families experienced good, compassionate care, while others encountered gaps in monitoring, wound care, hygiene schedules, medication communication, and equipment provisioning. Prospective residents and families should confirm the facilityโ€™s current infection-control policies, ask for specifics about wound-care and medication-change notification procedures, clarify CNA training and payment terms if that is relevant, verify bedding and pressure-relief equipment availability, and request examples of how the facility communicates with families during clinical changes or transfers. Observing routines during a visit and speaking with current family members can help assess consistency of care.

    About Stafford Healthcare

Stafford Healthcare is a skilled nursing facility that helps people who need care after a hospital stay, illness, or surgery, and they've got all kinds of nursing services like 12-16 hour daily nursing care, a 24-hour call system, and round-the-clock personal care assistance from professional caregivers, so people always have someone to help with bathing, dressing, getting around, and managing medicine, and they also work with folks who need help with daily activities or who can't move on their own. There's physical, occupational, and speech therapy for short-term rehab as well as long-term care, and the staff tries to help everyone be as independent as possible while feeling safe and treated with dignity. Stafford Healthcare accepts both Medicaid and Medicare, which gives families options to work with.

Residents have private suites with their own bathrooms, furnished rooms, air conditioning, kitchenettes, cable TV, telephones, and Wi-Fi, and the staff tries to make it feel like home by offering housekeeping, meal services, and move-in coordination. They offer several kinds of meals-restaurant-style dining, all-day dining, chef-cooked menu options for special diets like diabetes and allergies, and even meals with professional chef oversight. There's always something to do-group activities, parties, arts and crafts, movie nights, library, a beauty salon, and programs for fitness or music, plus walking paths and gardens for fresh air. People can use activity rooms, spa and wellness spaces, a game room, and outdoor common areas, and if residents want to join in, there are resident-run activities and chaplain services too. For those who need to get around, there's transportation and parking, and the staff helps with coordination.

Staff is present and ready at all times, and pharmacy services are available, along with plans that are personalized to what each person needs, whether it's help with daily living or more complex care. They focus on keeping people active with structured social, educational, and entertaining programs, so people can feel part of a community that supports them. There's respite care for short stays, and the facility tries to make life as comfortable and secure as possible for everyone. Stafford Healthcare serves seniors in Port Orchard and Sumner, Washington, and tries to offer a calm, supportive, and friendly environment.
