    Spotless facility with attentive caregivers

My dad is very well cared for in this smaller, beautifully maintained facility - spotless rooms, attentive and excellent caregivers, and an outstanding owner. There are individual rooms, lively activities (singers, piano, puzzles and games), a big deck, and I feel he's safe and looked after; overall, I'm mostly very satisfied.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment across the reviews is strongly positive. Reviewers repeatedly emphasize high-quality, attentive care and a well-maintained, attractive facility. Multiple comments call out the staff as excellent and attentive, and reviewers specifically single out an outstanding owner/management presence. The consistent praise for cleanliness, maintenance, and safety suggests a reliable, well-run operation where families feel comfortable placing a loved one.

Care quality and staffing are the clearest strengths in the reviews. Phrases such as excellent caregivers, top‑notch care, attentive, and taking care of dad indicate both competence and compassion among the caregiving team. The owner is described as outstanding, which implies engaged leadership and likely contributes to the positive culture and oversight. The family-focused endorsements (e.g., “taking care of dad”) point to trust from relatives and a perception that individualized needs are met.

Facility and environment comments are uniformly favorable. The facility is described as beautiful, beautifully maintained, and very clean. The small, intimate scale is repeatedly noted, with individual rooms highlighted—this points toward more private accommodations and a homelike atmosphere rather than an institutional one. Outdoor space is present in the form of a large deck, which reviewers appreciate; however, the absence of a yard or broader green space is explicitly mentioned as a shortcoming.

Activities and social life are mentioned positively in multiple reviews. Musical programming (singers and piano players) and indoor pastimes (puzzles and games) are cited, indicating engagement opportunities and social/recreational programming appropriate for residents. These details suggest the facility provides routine, resident-level activities that contribute to wellbeing and a pleasant daily routine.

Safety and cleanliness are recurring themes. Reviewers describe the environment as safe and very clean; one reviewer explicitly notes that the facility is more expensive but worth it for safety. That comment captures a common tradeoff found in the reviews: higher cost in exchange for perceived higher quality, safety, and attentive care.

Cost is the main recurring concern. Several reviewers indicate the facility is more expensive compared with other options. While cost is framed as a downside, reviewers also qualify it by saying the price is justified by the level of safety and care, suggesting many families view the expense as an acceptable tradeoff for better service and security.

Notably absent from the reviews are detailed comments about dining, medical services beyond general caregiving, or specific scheduling and administrative policies. Prospective families should therefore verify those domains directly. In summary, Better Living Retreat is consistently described as a small, clean, beautiful, and safe facility with strong leadership, caring staff, private rooms, pleasant activities (music and games), and a valued outdoor deck—balanced against limited green space and a higher price point that many reviewers nevertheless consider justified for the quality and safety provided.

    About Better Living Retreat

Better Living Retreat sits in Edmonds, Washington, and offers assisted living care in a small, home-like setting with just six licensed beds, so residents get plenty of attention, and the adult family home is licensed under Washington license #650501, which means it meets state rules for care and safety, and the place lets seniors bring their pets, whether dogs or cats, so furry friends are welcome, while also keeping all indoor spaces smoke-free. Residents have private bedrooms with ADA-compliant private baths, and both smart apartment layouts and well-equipped studio units give choices for comfort and use, and the building has a sprinkler system along with safety and handicap features for extra peace of mind. There's always an on-site registered nurse, and the caring staff offers 24-hour care, including services like medication management, diabetic care, continence help, memory care for dementia and Alzheimer's, hospice care, rehabilitation, and custom care plans so every person gets what they need.

Better Living Retreat provides housekeeping and laundry, including laundry and dry cleaning help, so residents don't have to worry about chores, and the personal care assistants help with dressing, walking, and daily needs, making it easier for anyone who uses a wheelchair. The dining room and large dining hall give space to eat together, where fresh meals, snacks between meals, a pureed menu, and even special dining events are all part of life, plus a special concierge helps with extra services if needed. The place offers transportation, including guest parking and complimentary rides for appointments or outings, and manages daily social activities, arts and crafts, parties for special occasions, life enrichment programs, health programs, education, and even computer classes, while the property's amenities include a theatre, an extensive library, safe decks and porches, a game and activities room, a salon and barbershop, a fitness center and exercise room, and massage therapy if anyone feels they need that little bit of extra comfort.

Residents get cable TV, Wi-Fi, maintenance services, kitchens or kitchenettes in their units, and the security is well reviewed, with safety and comfort always being watched over. The staff manages medication, coordinates with personal care and health plans, and holds visiting hours daily from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM so family and friends can drop by. Better Living Retreat only allows non-Medicaid qualifying residents but does accept long-term care insurance and focuses on seniors in Snohomish County who need assisted living, memory care, or hospice support without a large, crowded setting; it's a quiet residential care home, and even if there aren't any current reviews, the facility focuses on safety, care, and comfort in a simple, straightforward way that tries to meet each senior's needs while letting folks keep the routines and touches of daily life that mean something to them.
