    Compassionate caregivers and spotless facility

I had a very positive experience - the staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable, and the facility was spotless and welcoming. Admissions and rehab ran smoothly, caregivers were compassionate and attentive, and activities/meals made visits pleasant. I feel my loved one was in good hands and would recommend this place.

    Summary of reviews

Cottesmore of Life Care receives frequent praise for its rehabilitation services, physical environment, and many members of its care team. Reviewers repeatedly highlight strong PT/OT/SLP programs, a large well-equipped therapy gym, attentive therapists, and measurable functional gains during short-term stays. The building, grounds, and communal areas are often described as clean, modern, and hotel-like; private rooms, family visitation spaces, and on-site amenities (salon services, therapy-dog visits, spiritual programming) are cited as positive contributors to resident comfort and family satisfaction. Many families also called out accessible leadership and an admissions process that is organized and welcoming.

At the same time, a pattern of operational weaknesses appears across reviews, most notably inconsistent nursing care and periodic understaffing. Families described delays in personal-care tasks and in responding to clinical needs, which reviewers linked to limited night and weekend coverage and to staff workload pressures. Several comments point to lapses in clinical incident response and medication-management processes; these accounts indicate the facility may have gaps in protocols or in execution during high-census or understaffed periods. Staffing pressures were sometimes framed as a systemic constraint rather than an individual-staff issue, with praise for individual caregivers who ‘‘go above and beyond’’ despite resource limits.

Dining and environmental items are mixed. Many reviewers compliment the dining room atmosphere, menu variety, and meal options; others noted cold or bland food and occasional meal-service inconsistencies. Cleanliness generally scores highly in many accounts, but a subset of reviews raises sanitation or incontinence-care concerns in specific units or shifts. Laundry and personal-belongings handling was another recurring theme: while the facility is described as well-maintained overall, families occasionally reported missing clothing or problems with linen management.

Communication and administrative areas show a similar split. Several families praised proactive family communication, engaged administrators, and helpful social-services staff who support transitions home. Conversely, other reviewers identified gaps in discharge planning, billing/account access friction, unclear visitor/sign-in policies, and at times an uncompromising collections approach. There are also isolated, serious clinical concerns described by some families; prospective residents and their families should follow up directly to understand current protocols and corrective measures.

For prospective residents and families: the facility's strengths lie in rehabilitation capability, therapy resources, pleasant environment, and many committed caregivers. Prioritize asking about current staffing ratios (day, evening, night, weekends), wound- and incontinence-care protocols, medication-administration and incident-response procedures, discharge-planning communication, meal-service schedules and menu accommodations, and laundry/property controls. A site visit during a weekday and a weekend/after-hours check-in can help assess how the facility operates across shifts. Overall, Cottesmore appears to deliver strong rehabilitation and many high-quality services, but families should verify operational consistency in nursing coverage, clinical response protocols, and administrative communication before committing to long-term placement.

    About Cottesmore of Life Care

Cottesmore of Life Care sits at 2909 14th Ave NW in Gig Harbor and offers several kinds of senior care under one roof, including assisted living, independent living, memory care, skilled nursing, and home care services, and you'll find all these options in one place because the facility is part of the Life Care network, which is known for running over 200 communities like this around the country. The building's built with safety in mind-wider halls, secure memory care areas to help folks who wander, and support for mobility devices-so residents feel comfortable getting around, and there's always staff nearby, some who speak languages other than English, to step in just in case. Cottesmore's staff includes in-house therapists and nurses who put together individualized care plans, so every resident gets support to fit their needs, whether that's help with bathing and dressing or more complex rehabilitation, wound care, or even IV and trach therapies. Folks who live here have access to both short-term and long-term stays, and the skilled nursing side is certified by Medicare and holds 108 licensed beds, which means people who need higher levels of care, or who come in for therapy after a hospital stay, have a place too. The community offers many conveniences-private suites, day rooms, a café, fine dining prepared with good ingredients, an on-site beauty salon and barber shop, TV lounge, outdoor patio, cable, and telephones-along with a calendar of activities and programs, and people say there's a strong sense of helpfulness and friendliness, with staff and residents sharing a welcoming culture. Cottesmore is also known for awards that highlight their approach to meals, which draws praise for taste and nutrition, and their memory care services are designed to help seniors with Alzheimer's or dementia feel safe, comfortable, and engaged, thanks to therapies that focus on mental and emotional well-being, reducing confusion and preventing wandering. The community offers home care with trained aides for those who want to remain at home but need some companionship or help, and there are options for independent seniors who want hassle-free living and a social environment, as well as respite care for families who need a short break. Both the skilled nursing and assisted living programs provide restorative care, including physical, occupational, and speech therapies, and residents can also get oxygen, suction, nutritional support, and even spend time in outdoor or common spaces if they feel up to it. Cottesmore values feedback, has been rated five stars from CMS, and updates its social media pages now and then for those who want to see more about daily life in the facility.
