    Lovely new cottages, memory care

I toured The Cottages and chose it for my mother - the caring, knowledgeable staff (Tracy H was especially helpful) deliver high-quality, respectful memory care in bright, brand-new cottages with lovely courtyards and thoughtful layouts. Communication is responsive, residents are engaged and well cared for, and the atmosphere feels clean, safe and genuinely warm - I'm very pleased and would recommend them to other families.

    Summary of reviews

The Cottages of Spokane is consistently described as a modern, purpose-built memory-care community with a cottage-style layout and features intended to support dementia care. Physical attributes that recur in feedback include bright, home-like interior design, spacious floor plans, a circle layout to minimize wandering risk, heated sidewalks for winter accessibility, and large, secure courtyard spaces with gardens and walking areas. Many families highlight the facility’s cleanliness, cozy atmosphere, and design features that allow delivery carts and operations to continue year-round.

Direct care and resident experience are frequent strengths in the remarks. Numerous accounts describe staff as compassionate, knowledgeable, and attentive, and reviewers commonly mention that residents appear engaged in activities and experience improved hygiene, mood, or function. The community supports hospice partnership and provides individualized care adjustments, and some family members emphasize strong communication and responsiveness from specific leaders or teams. Activities programming, impromptu social opportunities, and outdoor engagement are noted as contributors to a high quality of life and a home-like memory-care atmosphere.

Areas of concern are primarily operational and relate to variability rather than uniform failure. Reviewers indicate inconsistent caregiver behavior and professionalism at times, with uneven performance between staff members and shifts. Several comments point to gaps or confusion in how the facility shares clinical information with families and handles power-of-attorney (POA) processes; this suggests a need for clearer communication protocols. A subset of feedback raises questions about dementia-specific leadership or training in parts of the administrative team, which can affect care approach and family confidence.

Workplace culture and management practices also appear mixed: many families praise strong management communication and servant-leadership behaviors, while others describe staff-morale issues and concerns about management pressure on employees. These contrasting perspectives indicate variability in leadership experience across roles or periods. Clinical consistency across shifts and clarity around staff scheduling and health-safety expectations were also raised as operational vulnerabilities. Prospective families should weigh the facility’s clear environmental and caregiving strengths against these patterns of unevenness in staff conduct, communication protocols, and management culture. When possible, arrange multiple visits at different times of day, meet direct-care staff, and request written family-communication/POA procedures to assess fit for a particular resident’s needs.

    About Cottages of Spokane

Cottages of Spokane sits at 6930 North Nevada Street and has four small, cozy cottages, each with up to 20 residents, so people get to know each other and feel at home. These single-story cottages each open to a large, secure courtyard filled with landscaped walkways, raised garden beds, and greenery, and the grounds have edible, non-toxic plants that an arborist chose to make sure everything's safe and pretty, plus there are heated sidewalks and patio heaters and misters so residents can enjoy the fresh air in every season. Each cottage has its own dining room, living room with fireplace, and kitchenettes, and there are private and shared rooms, with space for visitors to pull up a chair. The community is still finishing up construction with some fresh paint and new grass, but tours are available now so people can see how the spaces look, and it plans to open between mid-September and early October.

Cottages of Spokane provides assisted living, independent living, and memory care for seniors, and residents can get help with daily activities or choose more independent options if they want. In the memory care areas, there's a requirement that residents have a diagnosis of dementia or Alzheimer's, with nurses on site five days a week, continuous nurse oversight, and trained care staff always there. Services include scheduled activities tailored to each person, private rooms for comfort and safety, support with personal care or medical needs, and special programs to help with memory and quality of life. The community allows assistance animals, follows Fair Housing rules, and offers on-site health visits from specialists like dental, labs, or a nurse practitioner, so less travel is needed for routine care. Every resident has access to safe, open outdoor spaces, and there's a focus on keeping the environment calm and familiar so everyone feels secure. Each cottage connects to the secure courtyard area, letting people stroll, garden, and engage in activities outside. Cottages of Spokane is part of CarePartners Senior Living, which offers several community options across the region, all aiming for personal attention and tailored care to fit every resident's unique needs.
