    Open layout, caring staff, excellent

I toured the community and am now on the waitlist. The open-concept rooms with private baths and a circular layout that helps residents stay oriented are thoughtful; I saw residents receiving wonderful treatment. Staff are warm, responsive and cheerful with an excellent staff-to-resident ratio, there's a non-denominational pastor and regular services, a salon, good food, family-friendly common spaces with inexpensive family meals, and solid physical-wellness activities - very nice overall.

    Summary of reviews

Overall sentiment in the reviews is strongly positive, with repeated praise for the quality of care and the staff. Multiple reviewers use terms like "wonderful treatment," "warm and responsive staff," and note that staff answer questions cheerfully. The facility’s high staff-to-resident ratio is highlighted as a major strength, and reviewers attribute attentive, personal care to that staffing level. There is a clear pattern that interactions with staff are professional, prompt, and comforting to families and residents alike.

Facility design and safety features are consistently noted and appear to be deliberate priorities. The building’s small, circular layout is mentioned several times as a benefit: it creates a homelike atmosphere, reduces resident disorientation, and helps prevent residents from being placed in the wrong rooms. Reviewers also point out the open-concept design and the presence of individual bathrooms, both of which support resident privacy and accessibility. Common spaces are available and intentionally designed to encourage family visits, and there are options for family meals at minimal cost, reinforcing a family-friendly environment.

Dining, activities, and spiritual care are other strong themes. Food is described positively, and organized activities for physical well-being are available — indicating an emphasis on maintaining residents’ health and engagement. The presence of a salon area is a convenience noted by reviewers. Spiritual needs appear to be supported: the facility offers religious services including Mass and Sunday services and has a non-denominational pastor, which suggests attention to diverse faith needs and community rituals. Simple engagement activities such as residents reading are also observed, adding to a sense of normal daily life.

There are a few consistent caveats to balance the positive points. Several reviewers mention logistical or suitability concerns: the facility does not allow residents to bring their own furniture, which could be limiting for families who want to personalize rooms. One reviewer explicitly stated the facility was "not fit for my grandmother," which signals that despite the overall strengths, the community may not meet every individual’s medical, personal, or lifestyle requirements. Finally, the facility’s popularity appears to create limited availability — at least one reviewer noted being on a waitlist — which could be an important practical consideration for families needing prompt placement.

In synthesis, the reviews portray Remembrance Home–Marshfield Medical Center–Beaver Dam as a small, well-staffed, family-oriented community with thoughtful design elements that enhance resident safety and comfort. Strengths center on caring and responsive staff, strong staffing ratios, safe and navigable layout, family-friendly spaces and options, good dining, and a range of activities including spiritual services. Potential drawbacks to consider are the policy prohibiting bringing personal furniture, possible mismatches for certain individual care needs (as reflected by at least one family’s comment), and limited immediate availability due to demand. Prospective families should weigh the strong person-centered care and safety design against those logistical and fit-related concerns when determining if this community matches a particular resident’s needs.

About Remembrance Home - Beaver Dam

Remembrance Home-Marshfield Medical Center-Beaver Dam sits at 707 S. University Ave in Beaver Dam, WI, and offers a mix of assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, independent living, and home care services under the Marshfield Clinic Health System. The facility handles up to 19 residents in studio room layouts, providing choices that work for different comfort and privacy needs, and helps seniors keep their independence while giving needed support. They help with daily living activities like bathing, dressing, eating, toileting, moving around, and offer medication help, meal services, regular housekeeping, laundry, and shower assistance. The staff can give skilled nursing care for up to 3 hours each week, with longer periods possible in special cases, and there's 24-hour assistance and urgent care if something can't wait for a doctor's visit.

Remembrance Home can support residents with various mobility levels, including those who need standby help walking or have specific ambulation problems, and the spaces follow state requirements for bathroom access and room sizes. The community offers care for seniors with Alzheimer's or other dementia too, using a safe and supervised memory care program with secure areas, specialized activities to help memory, and 24-hour support. Organized activities and social outings happen based on what residents enjoy, and the facility works to create an environment that feels like home, with safety, dignity, and comfort in mind.

People can pay in different ways, using all-inclusive or fee-for-service programs, sometimes with upfront costs like deposits, and financial help's available for some through the Community Options Program and Family Care, both handled by county Aging & Disability Resource Centers. Each resident gets their own private living area with a private kitchen and bathroom. Remembrance Home accepts seniors who can take care of themselves most of the time but need some help. Licensed under Wisconsin's DHS 83 rules, this isn't a nursing home-it focuses on support, not ongoing rehab or complex medical care. Some short-term respite stays might be possible for those who need a safe spot for just a little while. Remembrance Home runs as part of Randolph Health Services & Assisted Living, with reviews from residents and families and a focus on keeping people happy in a place that bears the medical center's name right there on the sign out front.
