    Smooth transition, caring staff, beautiful

I'm very pleased with this community - the staff are genuinely caring and responsive, the campus and apartments are beautiful and immaculately maintained, and the dining and activities keep residents engaged. My mom's transition to assisted living was smooth, she's happy and well cared for, and I recommend this safe, homey place with excellent continuity of care.

    Summary of reviews

Three Pillars Senior Living Communities draws consistently strong praise for its caregiving teams, clinical oversight, and campus environment. Many families and residents describe compassionate, attentive staff and responsive nursing support, supplemented by an on-site clinic and round-the-clock availability. Clinical outcomes such as weight gain and stabilization, as well as effective dementia-focused care, are noted in multiple accounts. The facility’s physical plant is frequently described as clean, updated, and well maintained: residents cite spacious apartments (often with balconies and views), private bathrooms, attractive dining rooms, and extensive grounds with walking trails and wheelchair-accessible paths.

Dining and programming are prominent strengths. Reviewers commonly highlight varied, high-quality meals and a broad activities calendar that includes exercise groups, discussion groups, musical performances, virtual offerings during infection-control periods, and organized outings. The single-campus continuum-of-care model is valued by families who appreciate the ability to remain in a familiar environment while moving between levels of care. Many accounts also emphasize a strong sense of community and successful, low-friction transitions into the community.

At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns that prospective residents and families should evaluate. Communication and discharge-planning processes are described as inconsistent, and there are specific concerns about medication knowledge and medication-management practices among some staff. Several accounts raise issues about how end-of-life care is handled and whether families are adequately included in decision-making. Complaints about variable staff conduct — ranging from intrusive interactions to discourteous behavior — appear alongside reports of management problems involving contract/agency staffing, scheduling, and payment. Financial and administrative concerns include perceptions of high cost, nonrefundable deposit policies, potential mismatch between marketing promises and on-the-ground bed availability, and at least one serious claim regarding billing and discharge practices.

More serious cultural concerns are also present in the feedback: some families describe incidents of insensitive bereavement communications and allegations of racial discrimination or unequal treatment. Transparency about staff credentials and training is uneven in accounts, and a few reviewers report retaliatory behaviors related to scheduling or contractor relations. These themes do not negate the frequently cited strengths, but they do point to variability in resident experience depending on unit, care team, and management responsiveness.

For families considering Three Pillars, a balanced approach is advisable: verify clinical oversight and medication protocols, ask for written end-of-life and discharge policies, request details about staffing ratios and turnover, review billing and deposit terms, and inquire about anti-discrimination training and grievance procedures. A visit focused on both the social environment (dining, activities, grounds) and the operational details (care plans, communication pathways, and billing practices) will best illuminate whether the community aligns with a prospective resident’s priorities.

About Three Pillars Senior Living Communities

Three Pillars Senior Living Communities has served families and residents since 1905, starting from a Masonic tradition and carrying its not-for-profit mission through over a century of care, always putting what is right for residents first and using proceeds to support programs and services rather than making a profit for outside owners. The campus sits in Dousman, Wisconsin, where you'll find a wide mix of services for older adults, such as independent living at The Fields and Village on the Square, catered assisted living at Compass Point, assisted living and memory care at Riverside Lodge, skilled nursing and rehabilitation at the Masonic Health Care Center and Hickory Suites, and wellness services through Wellness Connection. Residents live in an active adult community with loft apartments, garden or courtyard homes, surrounded by walking and biking trails, gardens, and natural spaces, so they can get outdoors or simply sit and enjoy the sounds of the neighborhood.

Three Pillars offers a Life Plan Community, which means residents can move between levels of care as their needs change, and there are services like physical, occupational, and rehabilitation therapies tailored to residents, especially those with health or mobility needs. Staff are known for being kind and helpful, many have worked there for years, and the place has won awards for the meals and events it offers. Here, residents have access to social events, picnics, active adult programs, woodworking shops, fitness centers, on-site dining, a coffee area, a billiards room, computer stations, devotional activities, and a beauty shop, plus basics like parking, storage, housekeeping, and snow removal. Special attention goes to those with memory care needs, through dedicated programs and residential support.

Healthcare services are broad and include diabetic care, help for non-ambulatory residents, and incontinence care, along with nursing and skilled rehabilitation care at the Masonic Center for Health & Rehab. Three Pillars values staff, making sure they feel welcome, and always aims for resident satisfaction instead of profit. The community has received high reviews from families and residents, with extra resources and support for dementia care through the Dementia Map, and it's recognized as one of the best continuing care retirement communities nationally. A leadership team oversees daily work, activities, and future plans, while everything from education and transportation to maintenance and dry cleaning is available to simplify life. Three Pillars gives older adults space, care, and social support in a setting that feels relaxed, natural, and friendly-always with a mission to serve rather than sell.
