    Warm professional staff, beautiful grounds

I placed my mom here and we've been very happy - the staff are warm, attentive and professional (special thanks to Danielle and James), and the atmosphere is truly family-like. The facility and grounds are beautiful and spotless, apartments are comfortable, meals are restaurant-quality, and there are plenty of activities and outings to keep residents engaged. The transition to assisted living was smooth and communication stayed clear throughout.

    Summary of reviews

Hickory Park Senior Living is frequently described as a clean, bright, and hotel-like community with a small, intimate scale that many residents and families find welcoming. Reviewers consistently praise the facility’s appearance, spacious apartments with natural light and kitchenettes, regular housekeeping and laundry services, and comfortable common areas. The community’s size and layout appear to support close resident relationships and a family-like atmosphere, and the property offers pet-friendly policies and accessible on-site amenities.

Care quality is perceived as a core strength by many families: caregiving staff are commonly described as compassionate, attentive, and respectful, with several reviewers noting quick responses to health needs and personalized care planning. On-site nursing and therapy services, 24/7 nursing availability, and hospice involvement were highlighted as positive clinical supports. At the same time, a recurring pattern of operational concerns appears in staffing and clinical processes. Reviewers noted variability in staff training and second-shift performance, inconsistent family communication, and specific concerns about medication-administration timing and refill management. There are also isolated allegations of discriminatory or confrontational staff conduct; prospective families should inquire directly about staff conduct policies and complaint procedures.

Dining and activities are prominent elements of the community’s appeal. Many reviewers praise a skilled culinary team and restaurant-style meals with a broad menu selection, as well as an active calendar that includes crafts, games, holiday events, and regular outings. However, accounts of meal-service inconsistency (temperature and presentation) and occasional long waits for escorts to dining or activities suggest service can vary depending on staffing and shift. Similarly, while activity programming is generally described as robust and engaging, a subset of families described some programming as repetitive or insufficiently challenging for certain residents.

The facility’s operational profile is mixed in other practical areas. The building is newer and well maintained, but reviewers cited issues with noise transmission between floors, inconsistent environmental controls (including air-conditioning variability), limited parking, and at least one prolonged transportation outage affecting resident trips. Admissions and administration are often characterized as responsive and helpful, particularly during move-in, yet there are comments about uneven professionalism in marketing or front-desk interactions and questions about spending priorities versus frontline care. There is also a funding-related operational constraint: the community may require private-pay placement before transitioning to public funding in some cases.

In summary, Hickory Park will likely suit prospective residents looking for a small, well-appointed community with strong social programming, appealing dining, and a caregiving culture described by many as compassionate and resident-centered. Families considering the community should verify current staffing patterns (especially evening/second shift), medication-administration protocols, transportation reliability, noise and HVAC performance in specific units, and the facility’s funding/payment transition policies during their tour. Those seeking high-acuity nursing or specialized dementia/behavioral-health services should assess clinical capacity carefully, as reviewers indicate the setting may be better suited to independent and assisted living needs than higher medical acuity.

The community's set up for both privacy and social time. There are welcoming living rooms with fireplaces for chats, a community room, a residents' lounge, and a family dining room where friends and relatives can join in meals. The bright and spacious main dining room serves three chef-inspired, home-cooked meals every day, and people regularly dine together. Outside, there are walking paths and maintained lawns, with landscaping and snow clearing handled by the facility. Scheduled transportation helps residents get to local museums, shops, or restaurants, and outings and day trips are common. There's always something planned on the events calendar, from morning fitness, bingo, card games, music under the stars, and themed events, to group exercise, gardening when the weather's right, and bus trips to community events. People gather for cards or meals or walk with friends, and the staff encourages family and neighbors to join in. For those living with Alzheimer's or other dementia, special amenities, customized care plans, and memory care support are available.

The facility is secure with elevators and 24-hour building security. Private apartments come with kitchenettes and extra storage, and the maintenance staff keeps the building and grounds safe. There is always a team of caregivers available, with a licensed nurse managing care. Hickory Park Senior Living is part of the Encore Senior Living family and offers continuing care retirement community options and skilled nursing services, so residents can get more help when they need it. The atmosphere feels cozy and family-friendly, and the staff helps people get just the right level of support, letting everyone enjoy life and stay active, whether that means playing cards, going for a walk, taking a bus trip, or just having coffee with a neighbor.
