    About Gathering Place

The Gathering Place sits at 730 County Road PP in Sheboygan Falls, WI, working as a ministry of St. Paul Lutheran Church, and you'll also find a location at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sheboygan. The Gathering Place offers a day program just for adults with memory loss, focusing on those with early-to-mid dementia and other cognitive problems, and it's got four days a week-Monday through Thursday, from 9:00 or 9:30 in the morning till 3:00 or 3:30 in the afternoon. The staff and volunteers, all trained by the Alzheimer's Association and activity professionals, treat everyone with patience, respect, and gentle listening skills, aiming to make the space upbeat and safe, and they give family caregivers some much-needed rest by fully engaging participants each day.

The program uses a social model, not a medical one, so there's a strong focus on kindness, companionship, and making sure no one sits idle. There are daily activities and therapies like art, music, drama clubs, word games, cards, bingo, iPad use, creative drawing, trivia, reading groups, soft exercise, and strength and balance classes with Thera bands, light weights, and drumming, plus structured walking, gardening, movie nights, and group meals in a communal dining space-there's all-day dining and special diets taken care of too, with meal prep handled in-house. Participants get reminders for medications, help with routine activities and daily living tasks like bathing, dressing, and transfers, and non-ambulatory care for those who need extra mobility support. Memory Matters is a separate, four-hour, education-based class in brain health, specifically for those just beginning to face memory challenges, and it runs every week to teach skills for maintaining well-being. The approach at Gathering Place follows the six elements of wellness: physical, cognitive, social, emotional, spiritual, and community, with scheduled activities touching on each area.

There are many amenities, like laundry and dry cleaning, housekeeping, phone access in rooms, an arts room, a barber and salon, walking paths, a garden, parking, transportation, and furnished spaces for comfort. There's always 24-hour supervision, a 24-hour call system, and emergency alerts to help keep everyone safe and looked after. Volunteers work alongside a skilled care team, and there are ways for community members or family to step in and help out if they want. The Gathering Place offers CCRC care options, which means independent living, assisted living, memory care, and even nursing home support all on one campus, with a move-in coordinator ready to help new folks settle in, and ongoing support by coordinating medical care and mental health services when needed. Everyone must have an assessment first before joining, so the staff can make sure the program is right. They want to help folks living with memory loss feel calm, involved, and valued, aiming to keep them in their homes longer when possible while giving families peace of mind. Gathering Place supports the whole community by offering donations, volunteer chances, family and caregiver aid, educational sessions, and a safe, welcoming environment grounded in the mission to share Christ's love through service.
