    Spotless community with caring staff

I moved my mom here and am very pleased - the community is spotless, homey, and well maintained with roomy, bright rooms and on-site cooked meals we both enjoy. The staff are exceptional: friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring, they helped us through the transition and know residents by name; there are plenty of engaging activities and therapy options. Great value and easy access - I would recommend touring this place.

    Summary of reviews

Mountain Terrace Senior Living elicits strongly mixed impressions. Many families emphasize a warm, home-like atmosphere with attentive, compassionate staff and long-tenured caregivers who form close relationships with residents. The facility is frequently described as clean and well maintained, with modern, comfortable rooms, a pleasant dining area, and on-site meal preparation that some residents and families enjoy. Value is also a recurring positive: several reviewers characterize the community as budget-friendly with a good balance of services for the price.

Care quality and staff performance show a clear split. Positive accounts highlight respectful interactions, prompt medication dispensing, and staff who know residents by name and respond helpfully to families. The community offers on-site occupational and physical therapy and daily activities that support social interaction. At the same time, there are repeated concerns about staffing stability — short-staffing, shift cuts, and director turnover are cited — which families link to delays in response, inconsistent personal-care tasks (bathing, laundry), and occasional missed checks. Serious safety-related remarks (including delayed discovery after falls) point to gaps in monitoring and response protocols that prospective families should evaluate carefully.

Dining and programming are another area of mixed feedback. Many reviewers praise the dining room experience, the efficiency of meal service, and the home-cooked style of the menu. Others note variability in taste and texture, occasional blandness or poor diet modifications (for low-sodium or texture needs), and a desire for more fresh fruit or menu variety. Activity offerings — bingo, cards, happy hour, chapel services and other group events — produce positive social outcomes for residents who participate; however, some residents find activities not well tailored to their interests (programming perceived as geared toward particular groups) or note reduced engagement after COVID-related disruptions.

Facilities and management present both strengths and operational concerns. The physical plant is generally described as attractive, clean, and conveniently located, with easy highway access and nearby restaurants. Management changes since 2016 are noted alongside examples of responsiveness during tours and move-in. Conversely, families raise issues about billing transparency (overcharges, difficult billing communication, extra ancillary fees), inconsistent housekeeping frequency in certain areas (bathroom cleaning), security practices (doors left open), and questions about documentation accuracy. Limited on-site clinical oversight is also mentioned; while therapy services are available, there is no comprehensive on-site medical care.

Overall, Mountain Terrace appears to offer a caring, home-like environment with clear strengths in staff-resident relationships, facility upkeep, and value-conscious pricing. However, recurring operational patterns — inconsistent staffing, gaps in monitoring and personal-care routines, variability in meal and activity fit, and concerns about billing and documentation — suggest areas to probe during a tour. Prospective residents and families should ask specific questions about staffing ratios, fall-monitoring and overnight checks, laundry and bathing schedules, dietary accommodations, billing itemization, and recent turnover to assess whether the community’s strengths align with their care priorities.

    About Mountain Terrace Senior Living

Mountain Terrace Senior Living sits on landscaped grounds in Wausau, Wisconsin, at 3312 Terrace Court, and offers a comfortable, welcoming place for seniors who want to feel at home while having support available if they need it, and the place really aims to make people feel part of a real community with both private living spaces and big, sunny areas where residents can gather, like a large family room with a big-screen TV, a sunlit garden, and a roomy community dining room where everyone can enjoy tasty, nutritious meals together. The staff, which is part of the Ensign Group, includes full-time nurses, and they're trained to help residents with personal care tasks like bathing, dressing, medication management, and they're kind and respectful to everyone, which goes a long way to making daily life easier, and there are always people around ready to help if anyone needs it, especially since there are safety features like gated access, emergency call systems, and 24/7 staff, so folks and their families can feel safer. Mountain Terrace Senior Living provides several levels of care, covering independent living for those who are still active and want freedom from chores and yard work, assisted living for people who need daily help but want to keep as much independence as possible, memory care for seniors with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia where staff are trained to reduce confusion and keep people from wandering, and respite care for short stays when families need a break or a transition, with all these services built around a goal of treating people kindly and helping them make meaningful connections with others. The two-story building has fireplaces in the common areas, a library, and Wi-Fi in units, and residents can take part in a busy calendar of activities-there are organized outings, arts and crafts, music programs, fitness opportunities with on-site equipment, as well as therapy services for physical, occupational, or speech needs, and there's a beauty salon for those who want it, but pets are limited to cats and small dogs. The community keeps daily chores off residents' plates with regular housekeeping and linen service, takes care of the garden and outside areas, and schedules transportation for medical appointments and group shopping trips, with plenty of guest parking. There's also a gallery to see the living spaces and a pricing guide to help families understand costs, plus a quiz that can guide people toward the senior living option that fits them best. Residents and their families often give testimonials about the caring environment and the friendly staff, which helps newcomers feel at ease, and anyone considering moving in can set up a visit to see how the routines and amenities look and feel before deciding. Mountain Terrace Senior Living operates as a licensed RCAC facility, state license number 0015628, and accepts checks and insurance as ways to pay for care, and the whole place is built around helping seniors find comfort, safety, good company, and enough support to enjoy each day their own way, with independent living, assisted living, memory care, and respite care all available on one campus.
