    Comfortable, renovated, well-kept senior living

I've lived here for years and I like living here. The recent apartment remodels are lovely, common areas are well kept, and staff are generally responsive. Overall I'm very satisfied-it's a solid, comfortable choice for seniors with just minor room for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

Reviewer commentary indicates a mixed picture. Several residents emphasize that apartment units have been remodeled and that long-term tenants enjoy living at the property, but operational and management concerns are prominent and recurring. The combination of maintenance shortfalls, administrative errors, and disputes over rent and subsidy adjustments are the dominant themes that affect daily life for residents.

Care-quality evidence is limited in these summaries; the facility appears to operate primarily as a housing provider rather than a clinical-care setting. Nevertheless, operational issues such as delayed maintenance response times and pervasive mold concerns can have negative implications for health and comfort. Reviewers also described paperwork and documentation problems that could affect eligibility or subsidy calculations, which in turn influence residents’ financial stability.

Staff-related feedback centers on responsiveness and communication. Reviews characterize office availability as inconsistent, with messages left unanswered and the office frequently closed or unstaffed. There are repeated descriptions of miscommunication, tension between staff and residents, and examples of lost paperwork; together these indicate concerns about staff conduct and administrative follow-through rather than systematic care-delivery practices.

Dining and activities were not described in the available summaries, so there is insufficient information to assess food service quality or the availability and organization of resident activities and programming.

Facility and safety issues are notable. While interior remodels are cited positively, reviewers raised widespread mold concerns across units and maintenance delays in addressing unit and common-area problems. Shared laundry facilities were called out for unauthorized access and security vulnerabilities, and there are allegations of theft of residents’ belongings in common areas. Parking-policy disputes and privacy concerns also point to inconsistent enforcement of on-site policies and access controls.

Management and administrative patterns emerge as a central area of concern. Reviewers raised questions about rent-increase processes, unequal adjustments tied to SSI, and actions they viewed as management mistakes; some expressed concern about potential noncompliance with HUD guidance. Administrative weaknesses—lost forms, incomplete documentation, and unclear communication—appear to contribute to resident frustration and to recurring disputes.

Overall, prospective residents and families should weigh the positive aspects of updated living spaces and resident tenure against repeated operational issues: maintenance and sanitation follow-through, security and loss-prevention measures, and administrative transparency around rent and subsidy changes. Asking for documented policies on rent adjustments, HVAC/mold remediation procedures, maintenance response times, security protocols for common areas, and regular office hours may help clarify whether the facility’s practices meet a given prospective resident’s expectations.

    About Kearney Plaza Apartments

Kearney Plaza Apartments sits in Commerce City, Colorado, and has 51 total units for seniors aged 62 and older, and you'll find it's pet-friendly so dogs and cats are welcome, which is nice for people who want to bring along a furry friend, and while there's no elevator, which might be tough for some, there are 4 accessible units, and you get a garden-style layout with patios or balconies on the apartments, plus air conditioning with wall units and gas heat to stay comfortable year-round. Each apartment gives you one bedroom and one bathroom in about 541 square feet, and there's a washer and dryer included in the units, which is handy, and the community has on-site laundry facilities if you'd rather use those, and while the rent runs from $1,183 to $1,221, you do need to meet certain income limits because this is affordable senior housing, so not all costs are covered-you'll need to take care of your own utilities, and off-street parking is available for both residents and visitors. There's a community room where people can gather, a garden or patio area for enjoying the outdoors, appliances included in the units, a smoke-free environment, and programs and activities to keep folks engaged socially, physically, and mentally, which the staff get recognized for as they've won Best Activities awards, and meals are planned by chefs and meal planners, aiming to be both nutritious and tasty, which brought them a Best Meals and Dining Award. The staff here have also been known for their friendliness, as seen with a Most Friendly award, creating a welcoming feeling, though residents like Kathy Harris have expressed concerns about rent increases, showing that, like any place, there can be things to work through, and the place is managed by Kier Property Management and Real Estate LLC, a licensed real estate group, and while there aren't a lot of extra services spelled out, the property's aimed at seniors who want comfortable, affordable living, and offers both assisted living and memory care options for those who need extra help with daily tasks or dementia care, so overall, the focus is on providing a decent, straightforward place to live with an effort at keeping residents engaged and comfortable in their later years.
