    Welcoming community with excellent care

I toured this community and placed my mom here - the tour and move-in support were excellent. Staff are welcoming, professional and truly go above and beyond; they've made my mom comfortable and given us real peace of mind. Apartments are spacious with kitchens, the grounds and common areas are well maintained, dining is good, and there are plenty of activities, transportation and on-site services (including 24/7 care) to meet most needs. Overall I'm very happy and would recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Imperial Senior Suites presents a mixed but actionable profile: it is frequently praised for its staff, community programming, and a broad set of amenities, while also demonstrating operational variability across different buildings and service areas. Many families and residents cite the staff as a core strength — caregivers and leasing personnel are commonly described as warm, attentive and willing to go above-and-beyond. The community offers 24-hour concierge/medical support in at least some units, nightly safety checks, and a range of apartment types (including one- and two-bedroom layouts and kitchenettes) that support independent living with add-on services.

Care quality and staffing: Clinical and daily-care supports are a strength where dedicated teams are in place; several accounts note good clinical follow-through, timely daily checks, and helpful transition assistance for memory-care needs. That said, staffing consistency is an important operational limitation. Reviews indicate periodic shortages, use of agency staff, and variable responsiveness to on-floor needs — issues that can affect timeliness of assistance and families’ confidence. Prospective residents with higher-acuity or non-ambulatory needs should confirm current staffing ratios and the scope of in-house clinical services before committing.

Dining and ancillary services: Dining experiences vary considerably across the community. Some residents praise the food and special meals (free breakfasts and celebratory meals were singled out), while others describe inconsistent quality, meals sourced off-site, and concerns about nutrition. Ancillary fees are another recurring theme: housekeeping, laundry, medications, and certain meals or activities may incur additional charges. Transparency about what is included in the base rate, meal-plan options, and expected out-of-pocket costs should be requested during tours and contract review.

Activities and transportation: Activity programming is a clear strength. The community offers a robust calendar including bingo, Bible study, live music, arts/crafts, exercise classes, movie nights, and frequent outings. Transportation is widely available for shopping and appointments via a community shuttle or bus, though scheduling often requires advance notice and availability can be inconsistent at times. For residents seeking social engagement and regular outings, Imperial generally offers strong options; more homebound individuals should check mobility supports and program accessibility.

Facilities and maintenance: The campus contains both newer, renovated buildings and older, converted high-rise sections. When units and common areas are updated, reviewers report clean, modern apartments and well-maintained amenities (movie theater, gym, pool, library, convenience store). Conversely, other areas show signs of aging and maintenance shortfalls—dim corridors, visible wall and floor wear, equipment outages, sanitation and odor concerns in some common areas, and pest-control issues in certain units. These contrasts point to uneven capital maintenance across the property.

Management, safety, and communications: Leasing staff and some managers receive positive mentions for helpfulness and flexibility, and the property offers security measures such as gated/code entry and nightly checks. However, there are also concerns about billing transparency, occasional lapses in communication (including paperwork coordination such as VA forms), and at least one account describing a serious security-related event; that allegation suggests prospective families should ask specifically about incident-response procedures, background checks, and resident-protection policies. Clarify refund, grievance, and escalation processes up front.

Notable patterns and advice for families: Imperial Senior Suites may be a good fit for budget-conscious independent or assisted-living residents who value active programming, on-site amenities, and a community atmosphere. It is less well suited for residents requiring high-acuity nursing care or fully consistent housekeeping and maintenance without added fees. Because reviews show substantial variation by building and by unit, families should prioritize an in-person tour of the specific building and unit being offered, request current staffing and dining rosters, review sample menus and billing statements, ask about pest-control logs and recent maintenance work, and confirm transportation scheduling practices. These steps will clarify whether the particular location and service package align with a prospective resident’s clinical and lifestyle needs.

    About Imperial Senior Suites

Imperial Senior Suites sits in Southfield, Michigan, in a quiet suburban area with a lakefront and lots of trees, and the place seems built with seniors' needs in mind, from the gated entrance with key fob access and round-the-clock security to the wide hallways and specially designed apartments with grab bars in the baths, wheelchair accessible showers, and full modern kitchens with everything included like dishwashers and electric ranges, while each home has wall-to-wall carpet in the living areas and easy-to-clean vinyl in the kitchen and bathroom. The community has 1, 2, and 3-bedroom Senior Suites that offer plenty of space, lots of closet room, and individually controlled heat and air, so it's pretty comfortable for people who like to manage their own space, and there's also weekly housekeeping, light cleaning, and two meals provided each day if folks don't want to cook. For those who need more help, there's assisted living with staff who support bathing, dressing, and medication, and for residents with dementia there are safety supports to reduce confusion and help prevent them from wandering.

Care services go all the way from independent living up through assisted living, memory care, and even skilled nursing, and Homestead Home Health Care brings 24-hour personal care right to the apartments. Residents get personalized care plans, and services like medication management, help with incontinence if needed, and the staff is trained for higher levels of medical need. Small pets are welcome at Imperial Senior Suites, and the grounds have both indoor and outdoor common areas, with a dedicated lounge, a games room, and even a cinema called Imperial Cinema where residents can watch movies together. Every week brings a full calendar of activities, like stretching classes, happy hours, devotional services, live dance or musical acts, and trips offsite to shop or enjoy nearby restaurants, which is easy since the location sits close to stores, dining, and major freeways.

On-site you can find a state-of-the-art fitness center, a Wellness Center with classes, and a seasonal Olympic-size pool with a hot tub, so there's no shortage of ways to stay active or relax, and there's also a basketball court for those who want a bit more movement. The community focuses on safety with onsite emergency maintenance, all-inclusive utilities, and a secure gated perimeter, and if needed, there's pharmacy access and help with transportation. All faiths find a place with on-and offsite religious and devotional programs, and there's entertainment and social gatherings that are open to everyone, with family gathering spaces and a general store for everyday needs. The staff delivers what they call "five-star" services-like valet and concierge-but the atmosphere, to be fair, feels more like a comfortable, busy neighborhood for seniors who like both independence and knowing they can get help whenever they need it, with care ranging from basic independence to advanced medical support. The typical cost starts around $625 according to reported rates, and reviews run about 3.5 to 3.7 out of 5 from those who have lived there, so most folks find it very good, with lots of features geared to making life easier and more social for older adults.
