    Terrible management pests expensive utilities

I live here and it's been awful: management lied about the pet policy, the manager harasses people, staff gossip and snoop through mail and medications, and some residents get obvious favoritism. The buildings are falling apart - charming 1940s cabinets and antique appliances can't hide slow or absent maintenance, sewage leaks, pests (roaches, ants, rats, wasps), thin walls, drafty units with high electric bills, dirty laundry, a pool that's often closed (residents forced to clean it), parking nightmares, unstable lease terms, and relentless rent/water hikes. New management is a joke and the new maintenance is poor (the original maintenance guy was great), renovations are patchwork, and I'm seriously considering moving elsewhere.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The reviews reflect substantial dissatisfaction focused on management, building condition, and operational practices. Positive aspects cited include period architectural features, basic on-site amenities (pool, laundry, parking) and occasions of strong responsiveness from a long-standing maintenance technician. However, these positives are frequently overshadowed in the reviews by patterns of concern about how the property is run and maintained.

Staff and care-related observations: Reviewers describe concerns about staff conduct and communication style, including allegations of intrusive behaviors and gossip. There are also notes of perceived favoritism among residents and uneven enforcement of community rules. The comments do not present information about formal clinical care or dining services, and organized activities are not described; prospective residents should not assume on-site care, meal programs, or activity programming based on the reviews provided.

Facilities and amenities: The property is an older building with some original finishes and intermittent renovation work; reviewers characterize some updates as patchy. Recurrent concerns include deferred maintenance, drafty units with higher-than-expected energy costs, and recurring building-system problems (including an unresolved sewage-related issue cited by reviewers). There are multiple sanitation- and pest-control-related concerns in common areas and individual units. Amenity availability appears inconsistent: the pool is present but often closed and reportedly requires resident involvement for cleaning, and the laundry room is described as poorly maintained. Noise transfer between units is commonly noted due to thin walls.

Management, leasing, and financial patterns: Reviewers report frequent or significant rent increases, added water charges, and what they perceive as unstable or unclear lease terms. There are discrepancies described between posted pet policies and on-site enforcement or listing accuracy. Several reviews criticize recent management and a new maintenance person, contrasting them with a previously reliable maintenance technician. Taken together, the comments suggest turnover in management and variable responsiveness to major building issues and tenant concerns.

Considerations for prospective residents and families: If you are evaluating this property, verify lease details and recent utility billing practices in writing, and ask specifically about pet policies and parking allocations. Request documentation of recent pest-control contracts, building inspection or repair records, and average utility costs for the unit type. Meet current management to discuss maintenance response times and escalation procedures, and, if possible, visit during different times of day to assess noise levels and amenity availability. These steps can help determine whether the building’s historic character and existing positives align with your tolerance for the operational and maintenance issues described.

    About Normandy Apartments

Normandy Apartments sits at 3501 Dayton Blvd in Chattanooga, Tennessee, offering senior apartments for adults aged 55 and up, and you know, the place really tries to be comfortable and practical, with a mix of independent living and different levels of daily care, so someone who just wants a simple apartment can find that, but so can a person who needs help with bathing, dressing, or taking medications. The property has amenities like indoor and outdoor common spaces, patios, landscaped gardens, accessible parking, wheelchair ramps, and elevators, and residents can park their cars or use transportation options for outings and trips, which the full-time activity directors seem to organize regularly for those who enjoy field trips or want a little change of scenery from time to time. Normandy Apartments allows cats but doesn't allow indoor smoking, and there are bathtubs in the rooms for folks who prefer that over showers, and the showers they do have are wheelchair accessible. Residents can have meals provided, and there are both male and female accommodations, with certain areas reserved just for women, and there's even a skilled nursing facility plus memory care services on-site, which is helpful for people who might need more attention as they age. Many on-site activities and recreation options are offered, and the staff works to keep a lively and caring atmosphere that tries to help everyone feel right at home, whether they join in or just want to sit outside in the garden or on the patio. The apartments seem to run around $715 for a typical unit, and the location is very convenient, with nearby access to cafes, restaurants, grocery stores, parks, doctors, hospitals, churches, and shopping, so it makes it easier to stay social and get out in the community. While Normandy Apartments lists its address as Chattanooga, folks looking in the Red Bank area may find senior living options here as well, and the property encourages residents to write about their experiences, which gives a clearer idea of day-to-day life. There's a pool for swimming, beauty salons to help people feel their best, and both indoor and outdoor spaces that let people gather or have some quiet time. Normandy Apartments focuses on a safe, comfortable, and welcoming home for seniors, with a caring staff and a simple approach to daily living, and the community is set up so older adults can feel as independent or supported as they need as they age in place.
