    Great one-bed, unsafe and mismanaged

I liked the 1-bedroom layout, downtown location, tons of activities, and friendly staff - the floorplan is excellent for a one-bed. However, management is poor, maintenance is slow/only acceptable, and the building could be cleaner and needs upgrades. I feel unsafe: unmonitored security cameras, crime, and a resident mix with drug/alcohol/mental-health issues. Parking is a nightmare with a long waitlist (city all-day parking helps), so I'm planning to move out.

    About Cathedral Plaza

Cathedral Plaza sits right in downtown Spokane on W. Sprague Ave, so you can walk to the bus, shopping, banks, and even get to Catholic Charities social services right from your door, which really helps if you like to stay close to everything without needing a car, though they do have parking including carports, and there's even a city program for all-day parking if you want it. The building has a total of 148 to 150 units-it varies in listings-with a mix of studio and one-bedroom apartments, some studios measure about 550 to 600 square feet, and there are even two-bedroom options, so there's a little flexibility depending on what you need. There are both fixed rent market-rate and HUD project-based Section 8 units, and you have to be at least 62 years old to qualify, and you'll need to meet certain income requirements, with some units reserved for those earning less than 80% of the area median income, and the subsidized Section 8 units base rent on 30% of your adjusted gross income, which can make things much easier to manage for many folks.

Senior apartments here come with wall-to-wall carpeting, window coverings, air conditioning, cable TV hookups, and in some units, you might even get a fireplace or an upgraded kitchen, which is a nice touch for comfort. There's a deck or patio for fresh air, and many units offer river views. Every floor has elevator access and the entry is controlled for safety, so you only get welcomed guests, and the whole place is non-smoking. You'll find a staff that includes a full-time service coordinator and a social service coordinator always on-site and ready to help, and they work with Catholic Charities to connect residents with more support if they need it, like help with therapies or housing questions. The facility is designed to accommodate seniors needing either full independence or some support with daily activities, and there are dementia-friendly apartments and programs for those living with Alzheimer's or other memory challenges, so people who need extra care can find it here, including help with bathing, dressing, and taking medicines.

Amenities include a laundry room on the property, on-site mail, a computer lab if you want to email grandkids or see photos, a cozy community room, a library for reading, and even a courtyard to sit outside when it's nice. You can join activities that encourage physical, social, and mental wellness, or just relax in your apartment with your pet, as the community is pet-friendly. They've got safety covered with fire alarms and smoke detectors, plus accessible units for those who need them. Everyone who wants to live here goes through a comprehensive screening, and the process even accepts reusable reports to save time. Cathedral Plaza operates as a not-for-profit, offering supportive housing, resources, and activities meant to help seniors maintain independence, and they've got programs to help folks facing tough times, including strengthening families and supporting refugees or veterans. Leasing staff are friendly and available to show you around and answer questions. Overall, it's a straightforward place for older adults looking for affordability, support, and a convenient downtown life.
