    Loved one well cared for

I felt my loved one was treated wonderfully - staff truly felt like an extended family, nurses and aides were caring, and the overall atmosphere was peaceful and loving. The room was large and clean, personal belongings were welcome, and they provided 24/7 rehab, recreation, barber and social services; even the light air freshener by cleaning staff was a nice touch. I would recommend this facility.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Bria of Belleville describe a facility with mixed performance across clinical care, operations, and resident experience. Several accounts highlight strong clinical and rehabilitative capabilities: families and former residents note competent nursing care, helpful aides, and a rehabilitation program that would be recommended. The facility offers 24/7 nursing coverage, on-site barber services, organized recreation and social programming, and accessible social-services support. Many reviewers appreciated spacious rooms and the ability to personalize living spaces, which contributed to a peaceful, home-like atmosphere for some residents.

At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns that prospective residents and families should consider. Infection-control practices and quarantine procedures appear inconsistent; some reports describe inadequate isolation and subsequent cleaning after exposure to communicable infections. Reviewers also describe lapses in environmental cleaning and linen handling, and sanitation issues in some shared bathrooms and common areas. These issues elevate concerns about the facility’s consistency in following established hygiene protocols.

Staffing and conduct are another area of contrast. Numerous comments praise individual caregivers and describe staff who treat residents like family, providing compassionate and calm support. Conversely, there are accounts of understaffing that result in long response times, and instances where staff communication was perceived as unprofessional, including use of profanity and hostile language. These divergent impressions suggest variability in staff training, supervision, and staffing levels across shifts or units.

Dining and facility condition were also mixed. Some reviewers disliked the food, while others did not note problems. The building is described as older and in places has a hospital-like atmosphere; however, common areas are often characterized as clean and the facility provides programs that support social engagement. Overall, the pattern is one of solid clinical and rehabilitative strengths coupled with operational inconsistencies — particularly in infection control, environmental services, staffing levels, and staff conduct.

For families considering Bria of Belleville, recommended follow-up during a visit includes asking about current infection-control protocols and recent audit results, how linen and environmental cleaning are managed, staffing ratios by shift, measures for handling complaints about staff conduct, and whether residents can personalize rooms. Observing cleanliness in shared bathrooms and common areas, inquiring about recent staff training, and speaking directly with social-services staff about activity and rehabilitation plans can help form a clearer picture of current operations and fit for an individual’s needs.

    About Bria of Belleville

Bria of Belleville is a large for-profit nursing facility situated in Belleville, Illinois, operating under the structure of a limited liability company. With a capacity of 140 beds, it serves both short-term rehabilitation patients and long-term care residents. The facility participates in both Medicare and Medicaid, allowing for broader access to care for a variety of residents with different financial and health backgrounds. Bria of Belleville is not part of a continuing care retirement community, meaning it functions independently rather than as part of a wider network providing a range of levels in senior living.

The quality of care at Bria of Belleville, based on recent data, is reflected in its below average ratings for both short-term rehabilitation and long-term care. The facility provides an average of 3 hours and 44 minutes of nurse staffing per resident each day. However, it has received particularly poor marks for the consistency of staffing levels from weekends to weekdays, which could impact the consistency of care residents experience throughout the week. In terms of resident outcomes, around 36.9% of short-term rehabilitation residents are able to return home after being discharged from the facility. The rate of falls resulting in major injury stands at 1.0%, while infections requiring hospitalization occurred in 9.4% of short-term stays. Additionally, 11.7% of short-term residents required emergency room visits during their time in the facility.

Regarding long-term care, an impressive 87.0% of residents managed to maintain their ability to perform activities of daily living independently, such as moving, eating, and using the bathroom. The vast majority of residents, 96.9%, received their annual influenza vaccination, demonstrating the facility’s efforts in preventive health measures. The center also reported 2.4 emergency room visits per 1,000 patient days for those in long-term care.

Bria of Belleville has undergone a series of regular health, fire, and safety inspections. These state inspections review the facility’s adherence to standards in areas such as food preparation, medication management, accident prevention, and infection control. Recent inspection reports have highlighted a number of recurring deficiencies, such as failure to provide proper care for residents with pressure ulcers, lapses in food quality and serving temperature, insufficient protection from various forms of abuse, and inadequacies in developing and implementing procedures to prevent both abuse and neglect. There have also been noted failings in care for residents with incontinence or catheter needs, medication administration, infection prevention protocols, and measures ensuring a clean and comfortable living environment. The facility has experienced some instances involving a lack of adequate supervision to prevent accidents, inadequate call systems in bathrooms and bathing areas, pharmaceutical service issues, and challenges with honoring resident preferences regarding meals and snacks.

Bria of Belleville is regularly inspected to ensure it meets the standards of the National Fire Protection Association and has undergone recent evaluation cycles to verify compliance with these crucial safety requirements. Over the past three years, the facility has paid several fines related to regulatory issues totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The facility offers care to individuals recovering from hospital stays for conditions such as stroke, heart attack, infection, or accidental injury, as well as those who need assistance with daily activities. Staff strive to support residents' medical and personal needs, with policies in place for immunizations and daily living assistance. While Bria of Belleville faces notable challenges in the quality and safety domains, it remains an accessible option for those seeking skilled nursing care or rehabilitation with Medicare and Medicaid acceptance.
