    Courteous, attentive staff; clean rooms

I moved my dad here and have been really pleased - courteous, caring staff, clean rooms and a warm, family-like atmosphere. Check-in was smooth, nurses and security are attentive, and the rehab/physical therapy and engaging activities (the Halloween party was fun) look excellent. I plan to visit about three times a week and would recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Westchester Center for Rehabilitation & Nursing elicits markedly mixed impressions. Many accounts emphasize strengths typical of a post-acute and long-term care setting: attentive bedside nursing, a well-regarded rehabilitation/physical therapy program, a calm residential feel, and an active calendar of social events that families found welcoming. Several reviewers described clean rooms, ongoing facility modernization, helpful admissions interactions, and visible security and front-desk presence. Those attributes suggest the facility can provide effective short-term rehab and a supportive communal environment for many residents.

At the same time, a persistent cluster of operational concerns emerges across reviews. Staffing consistency and responsiveness are the most frequently cited issues: families described long waits for assistance and unanswered call systems, delays around clinical care transitions, and perceived gaps during shift changes. These patterns translate into broader concerns about personal-care routines (for example, inconsistent bathing, grooming, and incontinence-care schedules) and occasional sanitation or odor concerns in parts of the building. Several accounts also describe inconsistent meal quality and service timing that affect dining satisfaction.

Communication and management present mixed signals. Some families praised proactive care conferences and transparent updates, while others experienced limited follow-up from social work or administration, difficulty reaching the nurses' station by phone, lost or delayed return of personal belongings, and frequent administrative turnover. These operational weaknesses contribute to perceptions of uneven professionalism and variability in staff conduct and tone at reception, social work, and on some nursing shifts. There are also specific concerns about clinical-event handling and family notification pathways; a small number of serious incidents prompted questions about timely escalation of care and end-of-life management.

For prospective residents and families: the facility appears capable of providing strong rehabilitative care and a welcoming activity program, and it may be a good fit for those prioritizing therapy services and a residential atmosphere. However, consider evaluating staffing ratios and responsiveness during different shifts, clarifying service availability (for example, dialysis logistics), asking about personal-item tracking policies, and requesting examples of recent quality-improvement actions tied to communication and incontinence-care protocols. If possible, speak with current families about day-to-day responsiveness and attend a care-conference to assess how the team communicates about clinical concerns and care plans.
