    About Eliza Bryant Center

Eliza Bryant Center sits at 7201 Wade Park Ave in Cleveland, Ohio, and you'll find it's one of the oldest senior care homes founded by African Americans in the United States, going all the way back to the early 1900s, and over the years, it's moved locations a few times before settling into its current spot, where you can see the Colonial Revival and Late Victorian touches still standing even after the rebuild in 1985. The center's known for offering several levels of care, like independent living, assisted living, memory care for Alzheimer's and other dementias, skilled nursing, and even a home care program, plus a halfway house for men working to recover from substance abuse, which makes it more than just a place to stay but a place to get help if someone really needs it. You can find special care units, such as the Eva L. and Joseph M. Bruening Alzheimer's Unit and a 75-unit dedicated Alzheimer's wing, while the whole site offers more than 140 residential units for independent seniors, including senior apartments at Eliza Bryant Manor, 44 one-bedroom garden units at Garden Estates, and the Amasa B. Ford Lodge's 45 units, built with help from an HUD grant and designed by Robert P. Madison International, giving seniors a few different ways to live here based on what they need and want. Folks living here get access to 24-hour nursing care, medication help, transportation services, nutritious meals planned by chefs, and options for private or shared rooms, plus you'll see emergency call systems and controlled access to the buildings, so the seniors and their families can feel safe. People at Eliza Bryant Center can bring their pets and even take part in pet therapy, enjoy activities like chair yoga, Wii bowling, art and music therapy, and there's a long list of social outings, support groups, meditation, and worship opportunities that seem to keep everyone busy and included. The Inez Myers Senior Outreach Center runs primary healthcare, nutrition, transportation, and adult day care programs, and there's a big push on community outreach, plus services are sensitive to culture, serving neighborhoods like Hough, Glenville, Fairfax, and Central, staying true to the Center's historic mission to support African American elders with respect and care. You also get extras like a gym, library, lounge, enclosed walkways, and a courtyard space, plus an on-site dialysis center built in partnership with Centers for Dialysis Care (CDC), and you have therapy options, a secure gated environment, cable TV, extra storage, and furnished or unfurnished apartment units with private bathrooms and kitchenettes. The staff, who've been described as helpful, kind, and joyful, keep things friendly as they run things like meal programs, wellness activities, and special group outings, plus there are three Auxiliaries made up of around 100 women who help volunteers and fundraise, so there always seems to be a lot of support flowing in. Eliza Bryant Center has won awards like Best of Senior Living and houses a 175-bed skilled nursing facility, accepts private pay, Medicaid, Medicare, and some private insurance, and there's a full 12-week after-care program if someone needs extra support when leaving the facility. With a nonprofit mission registered as a 501(c)(3), the Center aims to support older adults with dignity, keep things safe and comfortable, and provide all sorts of services, including Medicaid advocacy and community outreach, so seniors from Cleveland and nearby neighborhoods can live a fuller life in a caring community. There are brochures you can download, updates and newsletters sent out by email, and if anyone needs extra advice, senior living advisors are ready to help with expert suggestions, which might come in handy for families making big decisions.
