    Genuine caring staff, excellent therapy

I had a wonderful rehab stay - the staff were genuine, caring and went above and beyond. Therapy (PT/OT/ST) was excellent and sped my recovery; the facility was clean, had a full gym, activity rooms and regular events, and administrators were attentive. Overall, I'm very pleased and would choose them again.

    Summary of reviews

Springtree Health & Rehabilitation Center presents a mixed profile with notable strengths in rehabilitation and day-to-day resident engagement alongside recurring operational challenges. The facility's therapy services receive consistent praise: physical therapy is repeatedly described as excellent, and speech and occupational therapy teams are also highlighted for producing positive, measurable recovery outcomes. Reviewers attribute successful functional recoveries to skilled therapists, on-site gym resources, and robust therapy equipment. For prospective residents seeking short-term rehabilitation after surgery, stroke, or cardiac events, the therapy program is a distinct asset.

Frontline caregiving staff โ€” CNAs and many nurses โ€” are frequently described as compassionate and attentive, and families mention specific staff who went beyond expectations. The facility is generally characterized as clean and well-maintained, with a variety of recreational offerings including activity rooms, games, live music in the dining area, and regular personal-care activities such as hair services. Family visiting spaces and private family-room areas are noted as helpful for supporting family involvement during rehab stays. Several reviewers also perceived reasonable value relative to higher-priced alternatives in the area.

However, multiple operational weaknesses appear across the reviews and deserve consideration. Staffing levels are inconsistent, with weekends and holidays singled out for reduced coverage. That inconsistency correlates with delays in responding to call bells, difficulty reaching nurses by phone, and challenges contacting residents whose personal phones may be uncharged or inaccessible. Communication gaps between clinical, social, and administrative departments โ€” and between staff and families โ€” are a frequent concern, affecting care coordination and timely updates.

Clinical-system issues were also described: medication-administration and documentation processes have shown weaknesses in some accounts, and families described examples where medication or monitoring did not meet expectations. Environmental and safety oversight gaps were mentioned, including maintenance and housekeeping variability and occasional hazards in walkways or wet areas. Dining impressions are mixed โ€” several reviewers praised meals while others described poor food โ€” suggesting inconsistent meal quality. Room accommodations are often small and many rooms are shared, which may limit privacy for long stays.

There are also reports of serious individual concerns that families found troubling. One allegation involved a missing advance-directive (DNR) and subsequent emergency interventions; such events highlight the importance of clear documentation and timely clinical oversight. While many families singled out helpful administrative staff and individual managers who intervened effectively, others described slow or inadequate management follow-up when problems arose.

In summary, Springtree is strongest as a rehabilitation-focused facility with a well-regarded therapy staff and a range of resident activities and amenities. Prospective residents and families should weigh those rehabilitation strengths and the generally compassionate frontline care against recurring operational issues: inconsistent staffing and responsiveness, communication and documentation gaps, variable housekeeping and dining experiences, and limits to room privacy. Those considering Springtree may benefit from direct conversations with administration about weekend staffing, medication oversight, communication protocols, and room assignments before arrival.

About Springtree Health & Rehabilitation Center

Springtree Health & Rehabilitation Center is a Skilled Nursing Facility in Roanoke, Virginia, with 120 licensed beds and a reputation for being the gold standard in short-term recovery, and you'll find that they combine a calm, home-like setting with advanced medical care for people who need rehabilitation after planned surgeries, accidents, or illness, or for those who need long-term support. The center uses specialized policies to help prevent the spread of diseases like COVID-19, with clear signs, guidelines for personal protective equipment, and visitor rules about hand washing, masks, and keeping distance, all while allowing patients to see family and friends as safely as possible. Administrators like Adam Edwards, Christina Wiley, and Ms. Amanda Powers all play a role in keeping things running smoothly, and the facility has a dedicated team of nurses, therapists, and physicians on staff-not contractors-so every patient gets consistent help and attention.

Every patient receives a personalized treatment program built around their medical needs, and therapy happens up to seven days a week, for two to three hours a day, which is more than many places can offer, and this helps people recover and return to daily life more quickly, with extra education and support to make sure they're ready when it's time to go home. People here can take part in the exclusive LifeWorks Rehabยฎ Recovery Program, which uses tools like the Recovery Mapโ„ข and the Personal Report Cardโ„ข to track every bit of their progress and keep them motivated, and there's a modern, well-equipped gym with advanced therapy equipment to help with everything from stroke and heart problems to wound care, orthopedic surgeries, falls, fractures, and neurological issues, as well as cardiac or pulmonary rehabilitation, tracheostomy care, and even recovery for folks with PICC lines or IVs.

Springtree also offers hospice and respite care, along with traditional long-term care for people who need to stay longer, and handles serious medical needs like total parenteral nutrition, wound vacs, and PCA pumps. The semi-private rooms have a daily rate, and private rooms cost a bit more, but both come with care that is built to be as comfortable and convenient as possible, supporting every patient as they move through their recovery. Springtree Health & Rehabilitation Center is operated by Medical Services of America, and for anyone who wants more detailed information, including details on their amenities, admissions, or their LifeWorks Rehabยฎ approach, their website gives an up-to-date look at everything they do for people in Roanoke and the surrounding area.
