    Friendly staff, excellent care, community

I live here and am very satisfied - the staff are consistently friendly and attentive, care is excellent, and the community feels warm and home-like. Meals are healthy and tasty (dining room or delivered), the campus is beautiful with gardens and walking spaces, apartments are roomy and well-kept, and there are plenty of activities (pool, fitness, arts) and convenient nearby services.

    Summary of reviews

Homestead Village of Fairhope is consistently described as an attractive, well-maintained retirement campus with a range of housing types and ample on-site amenities. Many reviewers praised the grounds, porches, courtyards and community garden, and noted that the layout and location provide convenient access to medical providers and shopping. Housing choices span one-bedroom apartments, cottages, villas and homes-for-sale, with options for personalization and maintenance-included arrangements.

Care and staffing receive generally positive assessments: reviewers frequently describe staff as warm, attentive and knowledgeable, and note availability of 24-hour care management, coordinated medical care and on-site therapy. Families and residents often report individualized attention and helpful assistance with daily tasks when needed. At the same time, a pattern of inconsistent staff engagement appears in some comments — specifically, uneven day-to-day responsiveness, limited visible staff presence in some areas, and occasional lapses in administrative follow-up.

Dining and food service are mixed. The facility offers meal-plan options, a dining hall with healthy-menu emphasis, and the convenience of kitchens or kitchenettes in units; reviewers also note housekeeping and meal delivery services. However, food quality and meal timing are described as inconsistent: several reviewers called out variability in taste and presentation, and at least one reviewer reported mid-morning delivery timing that did not meet expectations. These observations suggest prospective residents should sample meals and clarify meal schedules before committing.

Activities and social life are strong relative advantages. The community supports a broad activity menu — water aerobics, exercise classes, arts programming, card games, worship services, outings and excursions — and many residents describe an active social scene and engaged peer groups. Some reviews indicate activities are resident-led rather than staff-led in certain areas, which can be positive for autonomy but may result in less programmatic consistency.

Facility amenities are comprehensive: indoor pool and fitness rooms, hot tubs (though some were closed post-pandemic), arts studios, guest entertainment rooms and secure campus features. Reviewers also mention routine housekeeping and well-kept rooms. That said, multiple comments point to reduced amenity availability following COVID-19 and delays or uncertainty about reopening certain wet-area facilities, as well as occasional perceived cost-cutting measures affecting amenity operations.

Management and policies show a mixed picture. Positive items include competent front-line staff and strong long-term resident satisfaction. Operational concerns include administrative disorganization in some public spaces, lack of transparency around contracts and fees (including a non-refundable community fee), restrictive policies and rules, and reports of sales/occupancy pressure or difficulties arranging full tours. There are also practical issues to clarify in advance: evacuation logistics for upper-floor units, availability of assisted-living beds on campus, medication self-management rules, and any amenity fees or staffing policies for facilities such as the pool.

Overall impression: Homestead Village appears well-suited for prospective residents seeking an active, campus-style retirement setting with robust social programming, attractive grounds and accessible on-site clinical supports. Prospective residents and families should tour multiple unit types, sample meals, ask for written details on contract terms and fees, confirm current amenity status and reopening timelines, and verify emergency-evacuation procedures and assisted-care availability before making a decision.

    About Homestead Village of Fairhope

Homestead Village Of Fairhope sits in the heart of Fairhope, Alabama, just two blocks from Thomas Hospital and close to banks, grocery stores, restaurants, dry cleaners, and doctors' offices, so everything you'd need sits nearby while the grounds themselves stay quiet and private. The community welcomes adults 55 and older, offering several senior living choices, including independent living, assisted living, and memory care for people with Alzheimer's or other dementia. There are modern apartments with hardwood floors, full-size kitchens, and layouts that range from studio apartments to one-bedroom and two-bedroom options-some are traditional apartments, others are stand-alone cottages or bungalows, plus there are single room and semi-private options. All are designed for easy access and senior comfort.

The community has landscaped gardens and walking paths, where you can relax outside or join activities around the grounds, and there's even a community garden. Inside, you'll find inviting spaces like a grand foyer, comfortable seating areas, a library with quiet places to read, and recreation rooms for groups to gather. There's a chapel for spiritual services and a beauty salon for haircuts and barber needs, all on site. The amenities for fitness and health are solid, with a fitness center that holds treadmills, ellipticals, and bikes, an indoor heated swimming pool and jacuzzi, as well as a movement center and wellness center that support different exercise classes or wellness activities. Resident dining is set up in a restaurant-style setting where chefs and meal planners make nutritious meals each day, and guests can join residents for meals.

Activities are a constant, whether they're monthly events, off-site trips, or casual games in shared rooms. There's even a Pub & Grill on site for those who like to gather and talk, plus resident recreation rooms for hobbies or crafts. Parking is available on site, and there's free transportation for appointments or errands. Services include housekeeping, in-house laundry and dry cleaning, laundry for linens, financial advice, and memory care support if needed. The community is handicap-accessible and provides high-speed internet for residents. The staff have been recognized for friendliness and helpfulness, with awards for service and dining. Homestead Village Of Fairhope is a not-for-profit corporation led by Katie Diegan, the executive director, and Kim Neal, the director of corporate development. Operational hours run from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm. Entry does require a fee, and all-inclusive pricing covers most services. The campus aims for a safe, caring setting where privacy and access to daily conveniences remain priorities, and the range of floor plans and services means most older adults will find something that fits their needs.
