    Consistently friendly, compassionate, clean facility

I had a very positive experience - the staff were consistently friendly, knowledgeable and communicative, and the nursing and therapy teams provided excellent, compassionate rehab care. The building felt clean, safe and homey with an attractive lobby, courtyard and plenty of daily activities; rooms were comfortable and private options available. Nurses responded promptly and kept my loved one well cared for throughout their stay.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews of Mitchell-Hollingsworth Nursing & Rehabilitation Center are strongly polarized, with a clear split between families who describe positive, rehabilitative experiences and those who raise serious operational concerns. Many reviewers praise the facility's rehabilitation program, noting skilled therapists, regular exercise opportunities, and successful short-term recoveries. These positive accounts often highlight caring bedside staff, responsive nursing at times, attractive grounds and interior features (rotunda, waterfall, courtyard), private-room options, and a broad schedule of daily activities that create a home-like, social atmosphere.

At the same time, a substantial portion of reviews describe inconsistent care delivery. Common operational weaknesses include fluctuations in staffing levels and responsiveness, which reviewers tie to delayed assistance with toileting, bathing, and call-response times. Several families reported problems with medication administration and discharge medication handling. Therapy delivery is described as variable in frequency and duration by some reviewers, which they feel limits rehabilitation progress for long-term residents. There are also recurring sanitation-related comments: odor concerns in certain rooms and common areas, and pest-control concerns in some units and storage spaces.

Dining and dietary management draw mixed feedback. Some reviewers find meals better than typical institutional food and appreciate balanced options; others report inconsistent meal quality and inadequate diabetes-friendly selections. Activities and amenities are consistently cited as strengths — daily programming (bingo, parties, library, entertainment), enclosed outdoor walking areas, snack rooms, and social dining spaces contribute to a community feel. The facility's physical plant is often described positively for its aesthetic features and outdoor areas, though some sections are noted as dated and some rooms small or dark.

Management and administrative themes are variable. Several reviewers praise front-office staff and collaborative care communication, while others describe problematic administrative interactions, including excessive documentation requests and difficulty with legal/financial processes; there are also isolated but serious allegations involving theft and financial misconduct. Infection-control and transition practices are also a concern in some accounts, with mentions of repeated infections and issues during discharges or transfers.

For prospective residents and families: the facility offers notable strengths in rehabilitation, activities, and an attractive campus environment, and many families report compassionate care. However, the breadth of negative comments points to variability in day-to-day operations — especially around staffing consistency, personal-care assistance, medication and discharge management, pest control, and administrative practices. A focused tour and targeted questions are advisable: ask about current staffing ratios, call-response times, infection-control protocols, pest-control measures, the frequency and length of therapy sessions, how dietary needs (including diabetes) are accommodated, documentation and financial safeguards, and recent state inspection or complaint resolutions. Observing mealtime, visiting during an activity, and speaking with nurses and therapists can help assess whether the facility's strengths align with your care needs.
