    Exceptional, compassionate, professional care team

My mother stayed for respite and rehab and I couldn't be more pleased. The nurses and staff were exceptional and attentive, therapy was effective, and Director Terrie went above and beyond. Mom made friends, loved the activities and restaurant-style dining, and the bright, very clean facility felt warm and family-like. Staff from management to housekeeping communicated well, showed genuine compassion (even prayed with her), and gave me real peace of mind - I highly recommend this caring, professional team.

    Summary of reviews

Greenbrier Nursing & Rehab Center presents a mixed but clear profile. Many families and guests praise the facility for its compassionate caregiving, effective rehabilitative therapy, and a smaller, well‑maintained setting that supports social interaction. Reviewers frequently highlight engaging activities, restaurant-style dining, pet visits, and an approachable front-office team; leadership and certain directors receive specific positive mention for going above and beyond. These strengths contribute to a family-like atmosphere and positive short-term or respite experiences for many residents.

Clinical care shows strengths in attentive nursing and therapy services that support rehabilitation goals, but reviewers also describe operational gaps that could affect outcomes. Patterns include inconsistent staffing and timeliness, delays in responding to acute changes, and weaknesses in transfer/fall-prevention practices. Several comments raise concerns about medication-administration controls and weekend coverage, and there are descriptions of inconsistent adherence to physician care plans. There are also specific mentions suggesting process gaps in medical-equipment handling and documentation; these together point to areas where clinical oversight and protocols may need reinforcement.

Staff and communication present a heterogeneous picture. Numerous accounts emphasize warm, caring, and communicative staff who keep families informed and create a comforting environment. At the same time, other accounts describe variable professionalism and communication tone at reception and on some shifts, including perceptions of overly strict infection-control interactions or intrusive enforcement of rules. Observations implying lapses in staff alertness and inconsistent conduct were reported by some families and should be explored during a visit.

Dining and activities are recurring positives: reviewers note restaurant-style meals, prioritized entertainment, frequent programming, and opportunities for social engagement — including pet interactions — that supported residents’ mood and socialization. Facility upkeep is generally described as clean and well maintained, but there are intermittent housekeeping and sanitation inconsistencies cited by some families, including concerns about room cleanliness and care of personal items.

Exterior and operational maintenance is another area to evaluate in person. A subset of reviewers raised concerns about parking-lot clearing and winter-weather safety. Combined with the clinical and staffing patterns noted above, these operational items suggest attention to both daily-care processes and facility-level safety practices would be beneficial.

In summary, Greenbrier offers many features families value: compassionate staff, effective therapy, engaging activities, and an intimate, well-kept environment. However, there are recurring operational themes — inconsistent staffing, medication and documentation controls, fall-prevention and transfer practices, variable housekeeping, and occasional communication/professionalism issues — that prospective residents and families should assess directly. When considering this facility, ask specific questions about staffing ratios and schedules, weekend medication coverage, fall-prevention protocols, equipment-handling and documentation processes, and how leadership addresses incidents and family communication.
