    Compassionate attentive care, clean facility

I've been very pleased with Sherwood - the staff treat me like family from the front door to the CNAs, are courteous, attentive, and remember my name. The facility is clean and fresh-smelling, rooms attractive, meals feel home-cooked, and the salon, activities and rehab helped my recovery; their compassionate, coordinated care made me feel welcomed and safe, with only minor room for improvement.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The reviews present a polarized view of Sherwood Nursing & Rehab Center. Many families praise the frontline caregivers — particularly certified nursing assistants — for compassionate, attentive interactions, continuity of care, and a welcoming, home-like environment. The facility offers an active calendar, on-site salon services, and accessible physical and occupational therapy that in several cases supported successful rehabilitation and early discharge. Common physical attributes cited positively include a convenient layout for care, clean and well-maintained common areas, and coordinated transportation to medical appointments.

Care quality and clinical oversight: There are consistent strengths at the direct-care level, with aides and some nursing staff described as knowledgeable and engaged. However, several reviews identify gaps in clinical oversight and emergency response processes. Families described instances of serious clinical deterioration that required hospitalization, indicating potential lapses in timely recognition or escalation. Reviewers also cite limited evidence of regular physician rounds or consistent clinical supervision, which contributes to perceptions of uneven medical oversight.

Staff, professionalism, and communication: Staffing impressions are mixed. While many reviewers commend hands-on caregivers for personalized attention and remembering residents by name, others describe issues with professionalism and tone among nursing and administrative staff. Reported problems include inconsistent responsiveness to resident requests, use of personal devices during shifts, raised voices or arguments involving maintenance staff, and calls or communications perceived as insensitive during family bereavement. Multiple reviews highlight conflicting information given by different staff members and families experiencing difficulty obtaining clear, consistent updates.

Dining and dietary management: Dining experiences vary. Positive comments note enjoyable meals and helpful dining staff, but there are consistent concerns about meal quality and adherence to dietary plans. Specific operational weaknesses include inconsistent meal temperature and composition, and lapses in following therapeutic diets (for example, diabetic meal plans). These indicate variability in kitchen-to-resident meal-service continuity and diet-management processes.

Activities, rehabilitation, and social environment: Activity programming is a strong point, with a variety of offerings that support engagement and socialization. Therapy services are available and beneficial for many residents, though some families report inconsistent therapy schedules, limited supervised walking time, and variability in therapist guidance. The social environment and amenities (salon, events) frequently contribute to positive reports about residents’ mood and quality of life.

Facilities, sanitation, and infection control: Facility upkeep is generally described as pleasant and clean by many reviewers, but there are notable contrasts where sanitation and odor concerns are raised for specific rooms or bathrooms. Concerns about infection-control practices and equipment use (for example, inconsistent hygiene protocols or device handling) were mentioned and should be considered operational weaknesses to address. Fall-prevention practices and safety protocols are another area of concern, with family accounts suggesting inconsistent use of alarms, pads, or other preventive measures.

Management and notable patterns: Management is characterized variably; some families find administrators helpful, while others experience a sales-oriented approach, dismissiveness, or unresponsiveness to complaints. There are privacy and family-communication gaps that affected satisfaction. A small number of reviews include serious allegations, including claims of mishandling and legal action; these represent individual-level serious concerns that prompted families to escalate outside the facility.

Bottom line for prospective families: Sherwood appears capable of providing compassionate, person-centered care and engaging activities, with several strengths at the CNA and therapy levels. At the same time, prospective residents and families should carefully evaluate clinical oversight, fall-prevention protocols, infection-control practices, dietary-management consistency, and patterns of communication with management. Visiting the unit, reviewing care plans, asking about physician coverage, falls-prevention policies, infection-control procedures, and speaking with current family members can help clarify whether the facility’s operational practices align with your expectations.
