    Kind attentive caregivers, home-like care

I'm very pleased with the care my mother receives - kind, attentive caregivers who helped with physical therapy and keep me informed and involved. The home-like setting with two caregivers feels personal; rooms are clean and nicely decorated with a big sliding glass door, backyard view, TV, internet and an ADA walk-in bathroom. Staff are friendly, proactive and affordable - great value for families; I would recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: The facility is described as a small, home-like setting with a focus on personal caregiving. Families and residents highlighted compassionate, attentive staff who provide hands-on support, including mobility and physical-therapy assistance. Cleanliness and a well-maintained interior were consistently noted, and the environment is perceived as affordable and a good value for the level of care offered.

Care and staff: Caregivers are characterized as kind, proactive, and communicative; staff members reportedly coordinate scheduling, welcome change requests, and keep families informed. The limited staffing model associated with a small-house layout appears to support close caregiver–resident relationships and individualized attention. This model is often cited as a strength for residents who prioritize personalized care and consistent caregiver interaction.

Dining and activities: Reviewers identified two recurring operational limitations. First, organized activities and recreational programming are limited, and there is little structured communal programming in the dining area. Second, meal quality and menu variety were described as inconsistent, producing mixed satisfaction among residents. Prospective residents who place a high priority on robust activity schedules or varied dining options should consider these limitations when evaluating fit.

Facilities and management: Physical accommodations include features that support accessibility and comfort—examples cited include ADA-compliant walk-in bathrooms, rooms with sliding glass doors and backyard views, and in-room amenities such as TV and internet. Management practices are described as communicative and responsive regarding scheduling and family updates. Taken together, the pattern suggests a facility that excels at individualized day-to-day care and family communication but offers more limited communal programming and dining variety. Recommendation suitability will depend on whether a prospective resident values a small, caring environment over comprehensive activity and dining offerings.

    About Granny's Cottage

Granny's Cottage sits on a quiet, tree-lined cul de sac at 7717 Deanton Ct in Citrus Heights, California, and offers a small, home-like setting for up to 6 seniors, so it's the kind of place where you can enjoy a quieter pace and get a bit more individual care than those big places, which many folks like because sometimes you just want something more like a real home with caregivers who know you by name and help you out where you need it whether that's help with meals, medication, bathing, or getting dressed, and there's always someone around to help with the little things like housekeeping, laundry, and even taking you to doctor's appointments or the store when needed. You'll find rooms set up to feel comfortable, with private baths, kitchens or kitchenettes, plus options from studios to two-bedroom spaces, and they keep things safe with a sprinkler system and design features meant to make moving around easier for folks using a walker or wheelchair. The staff is trained to pay close attention to each person, especially those with memory problems like dementia, and they have a secure setup to help residents who may wander or need extra supervision, and they do their best to provide special meal plans for people with health needs, like diabetes or high blood pressure.

Residents can keep busy with all sorts of planned activities-arts and crafts, movie nights, music therapy, animal visits, exercise classes, and outings-plus there's a game and activities room, a book room, and plenty of chances to relax outside in a naturally shaded yard or join in on community evenings. Folks can use the WiFi, watch cable TV, or get a haircut at the onsite salon, and if it's needed there are home health care and non-medical home care services, along with skilled nursing, and hospice care is available when that time comes. Meals come with both regular and vegetarian choices, and there's personal help for showering, grooming, and even moving about if you need two people for support. Granny's Cottage supports active adults, those living independently, and folks needing assisted living or memory care, and provides respite care for temporary stays, all in a warm and cozy environment with group meals and staff who try to care for each person the way they would for their own family. Everyone finds a bit of social life here, but there's no pressure-some folks join in the activities and others keep to themselves, with the main goal to support residents' independence and keep the place pleasant and safe.

The place has gotten good feedback with a 4.5-star rating from four reviews, and while the cost is usually about $275, there's no published price, so it's best to ask about current rates. Long-term care insurance options are possible, and Granny's Cottage is licensed as a Residential Care Elderly facility, so its policies are kept up to the standards set by state authorities. The facility coordinates all sorts of resources and aims to offer help to both residents and their families through every stage of care, and with the quiet setting, the large, shaded yard, the small number of residents, and the focus on individualized support, many seniors find Granny's Cottage a fitting place if they want a peaceful, family-style senior community in Citrus Heights.
