    Clean, compassionate, engaging memory care

I placed my mom here and have been very pleased - the facility is clean, cozy, and the memory-care/assisted-living teams provide 24/7, compassionate support. Staff from the front desk to caregivers and kitchen are personable and communicative, meals are good, and activities (live entertainment, games, luncheons) keep residents engaged. Overall great value for the care and I'd recommend it to families seeking attentive, kind staff.

    Summary of reviews

Oakwood Meadows presents a mixed but informative profile for prospective residents and families. The facility is repeatedly described as having a kind, engaged caregiving staff and administrators who communicate well with families. Many reviewers praised the community atmosphere — described as home-like and social — and highlighted strengths such as on-site care coordination, active entertainment and activities, accessible outdoor space and walking paths, and generally clean common areas. Pricing and perceived value are often cited positively, and some families emphasized that staff routinely go above and beyond standard expectations.

Care quality and staff behavior are the most prominent themes in the reviews. On the positive side, caregivers and med techs are frequently described as patient, loving, and professional; several reviewers singled out specific administrators and care coordinators for strong leadership and clear communication. At the same time, there are persistent accounts of inconsistent direct care and responsiveness. Families should note recurring operational concerns including incontinence-care issues, occasional delays in staff response, and variability in staff performance that sometimes appears linked to staffing levels or family presence. A small number of reviews contain an allegation regarding forced medication; that is a serious claim and families should directly review medication policies, consent forms, and oversight procedures during tours and admissions conversations.

Dining and activities receive mixed but generally favorable comments. Many residents enjoy the meals and regular entertainment, with live performances, games, parties, and scheduled activities cited as meaningful contributors to resident quality of life. However, several reviewers described inconsistent food quality, limited dietary accommodations for allergies, and an uneven activity program in memory-care areas — including absentee activity staff at times. Prospective residents who prioritize robust memory-care programming or specialized dietary services should ask for current activity schedules and nutritional menus during visits.

The physical plant is another area of contrast. Oakwood Meadows operates in an older, partially remodeled building: reviewers note clean, airy common rooms and a large dining area, alongside small resident rooms, institutional-feeling bedrooms in some units, and areas that would benefit from further renovation. Privacy is an operational issue for some families because of roommate policies and shared rooms; locked bedrooms during daytime hours were also mentioned as a restrictive practice. There are also isolated sanitation and odor concerns reported in memory-care sections, and some families reported missing laundry or personal-property management problems.

Management and operational stability are mixed. Positive reports highlight administrators who maintain open lines of communication and who support families through transitions. Negative patterns include staff layoffs, turnover among licensed nursing staff, and an ownership/management transition that some families perceived as financially driven and destabilizing. These dynamics have implications for continuity of care and activity staffing. Families touring the community should inquire about current staffing ratios, turnover rates, plans for ongoing renovations, and contingency plans for behavioral incidents. They should also ask to review policies on medication management, privacy/roommate assignment, restroom and incontinence care protocols, and dietary accommodations.

In summary, Oakwood Meadows offers clear strengths in compassionate caregiving, community engagement, and value-based pricing, with active social programming and some strong administrative communication. Those positives are tempered by operational issues typical of an older facility undergoing transition: inconsistent care responsiveness, activity and memory-care staffing gaps, privacy limits from shared rooms, occasional sanitation and personal-property concerns, and management turnover. A focused tour that checks staffing levels, medication and behavioral-incident protocols, memory-care activity schedules, and physical-room options will help families determine whether the facility’s strengths align with a prospective resident’s needs.

    About Oakwood Meadows Assisted Living

Oakwood Meadows Assisted Living, formerly called Sun Oak Senior Living, sits in a craftsman-style building surrounded by clean landscaping and quiet gardens, and you'll see it's been around a while, but they keep working to improve things for the residents. The facility offers several types of care for seniors, including independent living for those who want a maintenance-free lifestyle, assisted living for people who need help with things like bathing or taking medicine, and a separate memory care building for residents with Alzheimer's or dementia, where the staff uses wander alert bracelets and a secure layout to prevent folks from getting lost. You'll find skilled nursing too, so seniors with more complex needs can get 24-hour care, including wound care and therapies.

There's always staff on site, day and night, ready to help with daily activities like grooming, toileting, and dressing, and people who need reminders or extra supervision get help so they can feel safe and supported. Staff are known for being helpful and friendly, which shows up in awards for being an "All Star" community and winning "Most Friendly" and "Best of Senior Living" honors, plus folks have rated the place with a solid 4.0 review score. The memory care program takes special care with residents who wander or show behaviors that need close management, and there's support for people dealing with major behavioral issues or medical needs, including giving insulin shots and checking blood sugar for diabetes. Security is a strong point, with computerized systems to prevent anyone from leaving unsafe areas by mistake.

Apartments come with private bathrooms, climate control, closet space, cable, and wifi, plus there's a 24-hour emergency system. People appreciate the mix of indoor and outdoor common areas-residents can garden, join arts and crafts, exercise, and even attend book clubs or outings into the larger community, and a full-time activity director plans these events. Meals are family-style or restaurant-style, with "Anytime Dining," and the kitchen staff prepares food with quality ingredients, offering choices for special needs like gluten-free or low-sugar diets, which the community has won a "Best Meals and Dining" award for.

Oakwood Meadows Assisted Living welcomes pets, offers pet therapy, and has beauty salon services, wheelchair-accessible showers, and transportation options for shopping or doctor visits. Residents get devotional services both on and off site for their spiritual needs, and there are programs like intergenerational activities, karaoke, Wii bowling, and brain fitness classes to keep folks engaged. There's hospice, respite stays, and aging-in-place programs, so people can remain even if their care needs grow over time, and private parking is available for residents and visitors.

The facility aims to help people live as independently as possible with the right support, always trying to create an environment where seniors feel respected, safe, and part of a community-nothing fancy, but steady and reliable with care focused on daily support, comfort, and dignity.
