    Compassionate staff, excellent food, activities

I placed my loved one at Crest View Manor and I'm very happy with the compassionate, professional staff - they truly go above and beyond with meds, showering and dressing and make it feel like family. The food is excellent, activities (BINGO, exercise class, sing-alongs to live piano and Christmas carols) keep residents engaged, and I've seen improved balance and confidence. The historic, spotless facility has beautiful views, well-kept grounds, private rooms with baths, a home-like calm atmosphere, and a reasonable price (~$3,500/month). I'd recommend visiting.

    Summary of reviews

Crestview Manor presents as a small, historic assisted-living residence with a strong emphasis on a home-like, family atmosphere. The facility’s conversion from a historic estate gives it charm and attractive outdoor spaces; reviewers consistently highlight well-kept landscaping, broad porch and valley/mountain views. Its modest scale (about 35 residents) supports close interpersonal connections and a sense of camaraderie among residents.

Care and staff performance are the facility’s most frequently noted strengths. Staff are described as compassionate, professional, and proactive — providing personalized morning care, assistance with bathing and dressing, medication management, and escorting residents to meals. Families and residents describe improved mobility and greater calm following placement, and reviewers often praise caregivers for going beyond routine duties to support residents’ well‑being.

Dining and activities are positioned as active selling points. The community offers three meals a day in a large, nicely appointed dining room with rotating menus (noted to change every six weeks) and multiple options for selective eaters. Activity programming includes organized exercise classes, BINGO, crafts, church services, a library, and frequent live piano music and sing-alongs that contribute to a warm social environment and seasonal events such as holiday caroling.

The physical plant reflects its historic character, which brings aesthetic value but also operational trade‑offs. Rooms are described as comfortable and in some cases charming, but many are small — potentially constraining mobility aids or larger furnishings. Bathroom setups tend to use tubs with seated showers rather than roll-in or fully accessible shower designs; this and the facility’s hilly site can make accessibility more challenging for residents with greater mobility needs. There are also some shared-room configurations and a limited set of modern recreational amenities (for example, no pool or spa). A minority of notes reference odor or cleanliness concerns in particular areas, suggesting those issues are not universal but worth inspecting on a visit.

Management and communication receive positive mentions for being attentive and communicative with families; several comments emphasize reasonable pricing relative to the level of service. The overall pattern is one of a well‑staffed, caring assisted‑living option with strong social and dining programs, best suited to residents who value historic charm, small-community living, and engaging activities. Prospective residents and families should arrange an in‑person visit to assess room size and bathroom accessibility for specific mobility needs, and to confirm current activity schedules and any ongoing maintenance or sanitation follow-ups.

    About Crestview Manor

Crestview Manor sits on a quiet hilltop in Escondido, California, where residents can see mountain views and enjoy a peaceful setting with gardens, a landscaped courtyard, and a veranda to sit in the sun or shade, and people who like smaller communities tend to feel at home here because there's only room for up to 38 residents at once, so the place stays personal, with a friendly atmosphere. The Cook Family owns and operates the facility, which means residents can expect the same care every day, and the staff stays familiar, often building long-term, respectful relationships with the people living there, and just about everyone can get to know their neighbors and caregivers over time, since the community keeps things close-knit and quiet.

There's always a licensed nurse on site, along with 24-hour staff supervision and a call system in every room for quick help, so safety remains an everyday priority, and for people needing help with medications, Crestview Manor gives residents access to an on-site pharmacy plus medication management and case management services-meaning staff handle daily medicines, check-ins, and coordinate care for each person's needs. Crestview Manor cares for people who need a little help or a lot, including specialized memory care, dementia support, and short-term respite care, and they also assist people who need help getting around, showering, dressing, managing their diet, or even just moving safely from place to place, as well as providing insulin doses and aiding with two-person transfers when needed. The facility creates personal care plans, so staff can help based on each resident's unique health assessments and requirements, and individualized dining assistance can also be arranged, along with dietary changes for health needs such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

Meals are homemade and served three times a day, and snacks stay available throughout, and when residents want more independence, some rooms offer kitchenettes or access to a community kitchen, so there are choices for most living preferences-studio and one-bedroom apartments, private and semi-private options, and a few shared bedrooms, too, and for people wanting more privacy, all-inclusive private rooms start at $4,400 a month, while assisted living options begin at $3,000 a month. The rooms come fully furnished, with HD TVs, telephone service, and WiFi, and there's on-site parking for those who need it, plus the facility welcomes pets.

Crestview Manor offers lots of activities: daily games like bingo and crosswords, craft sessions, regular movie nights in the theatre room, live music, fitness programs, and music or animal therapy. Holiday events fill the calendar, and sometimes even mini horses come to visit, giving residents something special to look forward to. Residents can spend time in the book room, relax in the steam room or hot tub, and join garden clubs, tabletop games, or relax outside. Staff help arrange transportation to medical appointments, errands, religious services, or social outings in the Escondido area, and a bistro, snack bar, and a barber shop and beauty salon-sometimes with visits by a mobile hairdresser-are also on site, making it easier to keep up with personal care.

The whole building is designed with safety and comfort in mind, with in-room emergency alert systems, 24-hour staff backup, and private or shared spaces as needed. The facility provides all housekeeping, linen services, and routine health check-ups, and they keep a schedule of organized events in the recreation rooms or outdoor garden areas. Residents who need help bathing, getting dressed, or other daily tasks can always expect staff to help with a focus on privacy, dignity, and independence, and for those at the end of life, Crestview Manor provides hospice care as an option, too.

Families and residents often describe Crestview Manor as peaceful and homelike, with a reputation for treating people with respect and kindness in a way that sometimes gets lost in bigger places, and because Palomar Medical Center and Graybill Medical Group aren't far away, healthcare partnerships make doctor's visits and emergencies easier to manage. Crestview Manor, Inc. manages the facility, which is fully licensed by California's Department of Social Services under certification number 372002142, and people who live here say the place feels welcoming, simple, and safe, with a commitment to meeting individual needs.
