    Mom moved here; very pleased

I moved my mom here and she's genuinely happy and well cared for. The staff are kind, attentive, and know residents by name; nursing and therapy were excellent and aided a speedy recovery. The grounds and facility are clean and well maintained, meals are delicious, there's a strong sense of community with many activities and amenities, and multiple levels of care make it easy to plan long term - I'm very pleased and would recommend.

    Summary of reviews

Redwood Terrace is consistently described as a service-rich senior living community with an emphasis on clinical rehabilitation, day-to-day caregiving, and social engagement. The facility offers a full continuum of care—from independent living through assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing—which reviewers link to continuity of services and convenient access to therapy and nursing. The therapy department and rehab outcomes receive frequent praise; families and residents commonly cite effective physical and occupational therapy, timely rehab after surgery, and helpful therapy staff.

Staff quality is a central strength in these accounts. Reviews highlight compassionate, attentive caregivers across departments—nurses, CNAs, social workers, dining staff, housekeeping and admissions coordinators—often noting personalized, above-and-beyond assistance. That sentiment is reinforced by descriptions of a warm, family-like community culture and robust volunteer and resident-council engagement that support social connection and post-loss emotional care.

Dining and programming are other prominent strengths. The community provides restaurant-style meals with a wide selection of healthy options; many reviewers praise portion sizes and menu variety (although a few mentioned occasional seasoning preferences). Activity programming is diverse, spanning fitness classes, lectures, clubs, outings to cultural sites, concerts and routine on-campus social events. On-site amenities include therapy and recreation pools, a gym, library, computer lab, salon and workshop spaces, which together support physical, recreational and social needs.

Facility condition and location are generally seen as positives: grounds and gardens are well maintained, rooms and cottages are roomy and many residences have modern updates, balconies or in-unit laundry. The Escondido location close to shops and cultural venues is frequently noted. That said, reviewers also point to the campus’s size and age: multiple comments describe a spread-out layout and several areas with an institutional feel, particularly in some clinical wings.

Operational patterns and management issues emerge as the main areas for prospective residents to evaluate. Communication and follow-up are sometimes inconsistent—families reported delayed callbacks or paperwork handling problems—and maintenance responsiveness appears uneven, with isolated unresolved work orders and thermostat/air-conditioning issues. Staffing levels and service consistency vary by shift, creating intermittent gaps in responsiveness or service quality. There are also facility-level trade-offs to consider: the community operates with buy-in/entry fee options and monthly charges that some consider high, dining-room seating can be constrained during peak times, and insurance limitations may require cash-based therapy for some services.

In summary, Redwood Terrace presents as a well-equipped, clinically capable community with a strong caregiving culture, robust rehab services, attractive amenities and active programming. Prospective residents and families should weigh the clear strengths in staff quality, therapy and social life against operational considerations such as campus age and layout, occasional communication and maintenance inconsistencies, and the financial model for entry and therapy costs. A focused tour of assisted- and memory-care areas, a review of current contract and billing terms, and discussion of maintenance response protocols would help address the most commonly raised concerns prior to decision-making.

    About Redwood Terrace

Redwood Terrace is a senior living community that's licensed by the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division, with a license number of 374600566 and an administrator named Sophia Nguyen. The campus sits on eight acres with flower gardens and walking paths, and offers a range of housing, including apartments, cottages, and single-family homes. The community's been operating since August 26, 1997, and the most recent state inspection was on October 4, 2024. Redwood Terrace offers independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing, along with short-stay rehabilitation for people recovering from illness or surgery and has a capacity for up to 210 residents.

The assisted living and memory care options come in various levels, and the memory care studio starts around $7,056, with care fees ranging from $8,056 to $9,056 depending on how much help someone needs, plus a $3,000 community fee. The staff helps with bathing, dressing, grooming, medication management, and daily tasks. The memory care building is secured and purpose-built for people with Alzheimer's or dementia, with alarmed bracelets, wander alerts, and staff trained to help residents who may try to leave or who need supervision for safety, and the nurse is on staff with a doctor available as needed, though exact hours aren't listed.

Housekeeping is provided by a separate crew, while on-site caregivers help around the clock, although the number on duty isn't detailed. Meals are cooked by a chef and served restaurant-style in a dining room, with room service and different meal plans like gluten-free, no/low sugar, low sodium, and vegan for people with special diets. Residents can use the indoor heated pool, wellness center, garden clubs, and have activities both onsite and offsite, like stretching classes, Tai Chi, water aerobics, brain fitness, art classes, social events, gardening, intergenerational programs, Wii bowling, trips, and devotional services. Beautician services, resident parking, complimentary transportation, and Wi-Fi are all available.

The property's designed for easy access, with wheelchairs in mind, and allows pets for residents who want to keep a dog or cat. The community helps residents at all stages, whether living independently or with more medical needs, and can provide standby help with transferring, using one or two-person assists, or mechanical lifts. The nursing staff can give medicine, help manage sugar for diabetes, provide incontinence care, and accept residents who might act out or wander due to dementia. Redwoods Terrace has a small, friendly neighborhood feel and offers resources for affordable housing, dementia care, and caregiver support, and serves clients from both SSI and the San Diego Regional Center. The community features both common indoor and outdoor spaces, activities for all interests, and a range of educational and wellness programs to keep people active. Redwood Terrace is recognized for providing steady care, a welcoming setting, and a mix of social, spiritual, and physical activities for older adults in every stage of later life. Meals, housekeeping, transportation, and maintenance are all included, so residents can focus on enjoying life, staying involved, and staying connected with people and the neighborhood around them.
