    Skilled staff, poor leadership, discrimination

I had a deeply mixed experience: many nurses, CNAs and doctors were skilled, caring and professional, rehab worked and the place was clean, but overall I saw serious problems. Leadership and some staff showed favoritism, discrimination and rudeness (social worker Irene stood out), teamwork was poor, residents' concerns were ignored and I believe my dad's stroke recovery suffered as a result. With racial segregation of Asian patients, homeless tents outside, parking shortages and state/county complaints pending, I cannot recommend the facility despite pockets of good care.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in these reviews is highly polarized: a significant subset of families and residents praise the facility for kind and professional caregivers, effective rehabilitation, cleanliness, and a family-like atmosphere, while another subset alleges serious management, staffing, and safety problems including discrimination and abuse. The reviews cluster into clear positive and negative themes, creating an inconsistent picture of resident experience that prospective families should weigh carefully.

Care quality and direct caregiving are described in very different terms by different reviewers. Positive reviews emphasize attentive CNAs, quick responses for toileting and diaper care, successful rehabilitation that helped residents regain health, and medical staff (doctors and therapists) who are described as professional and kind. Specific practical services such as nail/foot care and active programming are noted, and some families explicitly state they would recommend the facility because of the perceived good outcomes and warm, family-like treatment.

Conversely, multiple negative reviews raise serious concerns about staff attitude and behavior: repeated claims of rudeness, laziness, ignoring patients in pain, gossiping, and not listening to families. There are specific allegations against supervisory staff (one social worker named 'Irene' is singled out for a 'terrible attitude') and mentions of a two-faced supervisor and favoritism. These complaints go beyond minor dissatisfaction and include accusations that staff provided false hope or failed to deliver appropriate treatment — one reviewer claims a father 'lost his chance of recovering after stroke' due to inaction. Such statements, if accurate, indicate lapses in clinical oversight and resident advocacy.

Management and organizational issues are another recurring theme. Reviewers mention an inadequate Director of Nursing (DON), lack of teamwork among staff, and inconsistent application of care. Several negative reviewers urged investigations; one note states that state and county investigation were requested, signaling that concerns moved beyond individual complaints. These administrative criticisms align with the interpersonal complaints (favoritism, two-faced supervisors) and suggest systemic problems rather than isolated incidents.

Safety and environmental concerns also appear in multiple summaries. Reported homelessness/tents outside the facility and insufficient parking (including 'no employee parking') raise questions about the facility's surroundings and logistics. Internally, space is described as limited or cramped by some reviewers. On the other hand, other reviews praise cleanliness and hygiene management, showing again a mixed set of observations depending on the reviewer.

Dining and cultural accommodations are noted positively in several reviews: Asian/Korean patients are said to have access to Asian food that some residents appreciate. However, food quality receives mixed reviews overall, with a few comments that meals are 'mediocre' or 'not great.' The presence of racial segregation claims — specifically mentions of Asian/Korean patient segregation — is an important and serious allegation that contrasts with other reviews that praise culturally appropriate dining and friendly staff. This contradiction suggests experiences may vary by unit, shift, or individual staff members.

A notable pattern is the coexistence of strongly positive and strongly negative experiences from different reviewers. Some families portray the facility as a compassionate, professional place where residents recover and staff behave like family; others use very strong negative language ('garbage place') and allege abuse, discrimination, and neglect. The differences may reflect variable staffing, inconsistent leadership, episodic incidents, or differing expectations. Because of the severity of some allegations (abuse, loss of recovery opportunity, requests for official investigations), these negative reports merit particular attention and verification.

In summary, Mid-Wilshire Health Care Center (중앙양로병원) elicits deeply mixed reviews. Positive feedback centers on attentive CNAs, effective rehabilitation, cleanliness, culturally appropriate meals for some residents, and caring physicians and therapists. Negative feedback describes serious interpersonal and administrative problems: allegations of discrimination and favoritism, rude or uncaring staff (including a named social worker), potential neglect and abuse rumors, poor leadership and teamwork, and environmental/logistical concerns like parking and tents outside. Prospective residents and families should be aware of this polarization: consider visiting multiple times, speak with current residents and families, request facility inspection reports or complaint histories, and ask about staffing patterns and recent management changes before making placement decisions.
