    Spotless warm attentive family-run community

I placed my mother at Olympia and I couldn't be happier - the facility is spotless, homey and well organized. The staff (Esther, nurses, CNAs and front office) are warm, professional, bilingual and very attentive; they communicate daily, provide excellent rehab/nursing and nutritious meals, and proactively solve problems. My parent's health, appetite and mood improved with activities, worship and caring attention, and COVID safety measures were thorough. I'm totally satisfied and highly recommend this small, family-run community.

    Summary review

Overall sentiment in the reviews for Olympia Convalescent Hospital is strongly positive. Reviewers repeatedly emphasize compassionate, attentive caregiving from nurses, CNAs and front-office staff; many single out specific employees—most often social worker/marketing director Esther Kwon—as providing exceptional guidance, communication and hands-on support. Families report rapid clinical improvement for residents, weight gain and successful rehabilitation outcomes from coordinated OT/PT/ST services. The presence of visible RNs and LVNs, an on-call doctor, and 24-hour medical attention contributes to high trust in clinical care. Multiple reviews describe the facility as family-run or owner-managed with stable staff continuity, which appears to reinforce the personal, home-like environment and consistent care practices.

Cleanliness and infection control are recurring strengths. Reviews describe hospital-grade cleanliness, spotless floors, hygienic dining and bathrooms, regular linen management and daily room cleaning. The facility’s COVID-19 protocols (weekly testing, PPE for visitors, provision of diagnostic kits) are frequently praised; several reviewers specifically note that residents and families felt safe during the pandemic and that outbreaks were avoided. Nutrition and food quality are commonly highlighted as positives: reviewers report tasty meals, personalized meal planning by a dietitian, culturally appropriate (Korean) options, and improvements in residents’ appetites and weights linked to the menu.

Rehabilitation and activities are another strong theme. Families praise an effective multidisciplinary team (nurses, therapists, social services) and reliable PT/OT rehab that supports fast recovery and discharge home. The facility offers activities, worship services and opportunities for socialization; reviewers appreciate daily exercise, worship participation, music/DJ events, and organized activities led by staff. Several reviews note that the small, intimate community and supportive group of fellow residents help new residents feel at home and encourage engagement for those who benefit from a quieter, family-like setting.

Communication, responsiveness and personalized service receive consistent positive mention. Many reviewers report prompt responses to phone calls, proactive problem-solving (examples include sourcing a phone-charging cable), regular guardian meetings, thorough nurse reports to families, and strong social work involvement. Bilingual staff and Korean-speaking personnel are repeatedly noted as important assets for the community served, improving family comfort and care coordination. The facility’s proximity to family homes and other medical services, combined with reasonable pricing, is frequently described as good value.

Notwithstanding the many positives, a few recurring concerns appear in the reviews and should be considered by prospective families. The facility’s small size is a double-edged sword: while it creates a warm, homey atmosphere and staff continuity, it also limits walking space and broader social opportunities; some families expressed that the smallness might not suit residents who prefer or require a larger, more active community. There are isolated reports of issues—ranging from early cleanliness concerns, to a troubling single report about delayed attention to continence care, to a rare assertion that the facility lacked qualified staff. Some families were also frustrated by the requirement that care follow the facility’s attending physician rather than maintain an outside primary physician. A very small number of reviews mention noise from outside affecting residents’ hearing or comfort.

In summary, the dominant pattern across reviews is one of high satisfaction: Olympia Convalescent Hospital is most frequently praised for its compassionate, competent staff, clean and safe environment, effective rehabilitation services, strong leadership and family-centered communication. It appears particularly well-suited for families who value a small, culturally responsive, bilingual, home-like setting with attentive nursing and therapy support. Prospective families should weigh the benefits of personalized, intimate care against limitations inherent to a smaller facility—particularly if extensive outdoor walking space, large-scale social programming, or retention of an outside private attending physician are priority concerns. Overall recommendation level from past families is very high, with many explicit endorsements and gratitude toward specific staff members and the care team.

    About Olympia Convalescent Hospital

Olympia Convalescent Hospital in Los Angeles is a nursing home that offers convalescent and rehabilitative care for people recovering from illness or surgery, and the building itself uses the name "Hospital" right in the title so that's what everybody seems to call it, and it's owned by several people and groups, including Alter Levitin, Hadassah Weiss, Ruth Weiss, Helene Mayer, the J Nadel Family Limited Partnership, and Norman Nadel, and management falls to Charles Alexandre and Laura Ter Hakobyan who have both been there since 2021. The facility has 135 certified beds but averages about 116 residents a day, and the staff provide 4.05 nurse hours per resident per day with a nurse turnover rate of 25%, which is about average for the area, and there's a mix of long-term and short-term residents getting care for many conditions, including physical, mental, and memory problems. Residents have access to 24-hour personal care, regular health checks, and skilled nursing, because nurses are always around, and there are post-surgery orthopedic care programs for those who need recovery after medical procedures, as well as advanced wound care, pain management, infusion therapy, clinical nutrition, diabetes management, and hospice care, and for people who need help breathing, Elevate RT provides the respiratory therapy, while Horizon Wound Therapy Group handles advanced wound care, and staff include nurses, therapists, and social service workers, plus there's a focus on creating a comfortable place that supports healing and overall well-being. Olympia Convalescent Hospital is classified as a Korean Skilled Nursing Facility with a Korean Program featuring traditional Korean food, activities, and Korean-speaking staff, so that really makes it stand out for people who want that kind of environment, and the facility offers fun activities like Korean Dancers and Korean choir performances, and recreation therapy, so people can have things to enjoy together each day. Reports from state and federal inspectors show that Olympia Convalescent Hospital meets federal requirements overall, but it has been cited for 42 deficiencies in recent inspections and 5 are related to infection control, and inspectors found issues with protecting residents from all types of abuse and not reporting suspected abuse, neglect, or theft as quickly as they should, though there was no actual harm reported, but there was a chance of harm, so that's something people sometimes talk about. Families can take a virtual tour to look at the inside without leaving home, and for those who stay, there's a team making sure care plans are tailored to each person, which includes physical, occupational, and speech therapy right in the building, and dietary services for people who need a special menu or extra nutrition. The staff focuses on keeping people safe, reducing confusion for those with dementia, and making life a little easier no matter the level of care someone might need. The company that runs Olympia Convalescent Hospital is for-profit and operates as a limited liability company, and the main thing people notice is the specialized care in a place meant for recovery where cultural needs can be met and health problems are managed by experienced teams.
