    Warm attentive care mom thriving

I toured this family-run board-and-care and was immediately struck by the warm, hands-on owners and very helpful staff (Amanda and Boris). It's clean, homelike, and safe with outstanding meals, a lovely garden, lots of activities (exercise, games, music), and attentive, dementia-aware caregivers - my mom is comfortable, social, and thriving. Communication and personalized care give me real peace of mind; overall very good care in a small, caring community.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression: Reviews portray Palomino Residential Care as a small, home-like board-and-care that emphasizes individualized, resident-centered services. Families consistently describe a clean, bright environment with an emphasis on safety and comfort. The facility’s scale and decor are repeatedly characterized as homelike rather than institutional, and reviewers associated that setting with increased resident engagement and socialization.

Care and staff: Care quality is described positively across a range of items: attentive caregiving, respectful interactions, and staff familiarity with dementia needs. Several families noted measurable resident improvements in appetite, weight, mood and activity participation after placement. Owners are reported to be hands-on and involved in daily operations, which reviewers linked to consistent communication and a family-style approach. Specific staff members received individual praise for their responsiveness and skill, supporting the impression of stable, invested caregiving.

Dining and nutrition: Dining is a recurring strength in the feedback. The facility offers family-style meals, customized menus and flexible snack policies; reviewers highlighted fresh food, use of garden produce, and kitchen staff willing to adapt textures and preferences. Positive dining experiences were described as contributing to appetite improvement and overall well-being.

Activities and programming: The activity program is described as active and adaptable to resident needs. Offerings include daily exercise, brain games, puzzles, live music, sing-alongs and off-site outings with transportation. Reviewers emphasized that activities are often customized to resident abilities and interests, fostering friendships and daily engagement.

Facilities and clinical supports: The physical environment is consistently described as clean, remodeled, and free of odor concerns, with secured spaces and a large backyard garden. Reviewers also noted availability of physical and mental therapy and hospice support when needed, indicating access to common clinical supports for a residential setting.

Notable patterns and limitations: The most commonly cited operational limitations are related to the facility’s small size and recent licensing. Several comments note limited availability or a waitlist, which reflects constrained capacity in a small-home model. A language barrier was mentioned in a few remarks and may affect communication for non-English speakers unless addressed. As a newly licensed operation, the facility may have a shorter operational track record than long-established providers; families may wish to confirm licensing history and review any relevant inspection records.

Who this may suit: Palomino appears well suited to families seeking a small, residential, family-style environment with active programming, customized meals, and hands-on ownership. Prospective residents who prioritize personalized attention, social engagement, and a homelike atmosphere are likely to find the setting appropriate. Prospective families should verify current bed availability, confirm language accessibility for the resident, and review licensing/inspection documentation as part of their decision process.
