    Clean welcoming compassionate staff recommendation

I placed my mother here and we're very grateful - the facility is clean, welcoming, and the staff (nurses, CNAs, therapists and front desk) are compassionate, professional and accommodating. Special thanks to CNA Alex Nuno and night nurse Angie who made her feel like family; I happily recommend this community.

    Summary of reviews

Reviews present a mixed picture of care at California Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Positive comments consistently highlight compassionate, attentive CNAs and licensed nurses who form meaningful relationships with residents, and a therapy team (PT/OT) that is described as skilled and patient. Several families praised admissions and front-desk staff as helpful and personable, and many noted that common areas and décor are pleasant. Rehabilitation and aftercare services receive particular commendation from those focused on recovery.

At the same time, there are recurring operational concerns that prospective residents and families should weigh carefully. A frequent theme is inconsistent staffing levels that contribute to slow response times to call lights and delays in routine assistance. Relatedly, reviewers reported incontinence-care delays and variability in hygiene practices, as well as sanitation concerns in some units. There are multiple accounts indicating medication-management weaknesses and at least a few reports of medication administration errors and clinical incidents that resulted in emergency transfers; these accounts point to gaps in clinical-incident response and family communication.

Dining and nutrition feedback is mixed. Some reviewers complimented meal servers and the attentiveness of kitchen staff, while others raised concerns about processed food, lack of appropriate dietary accommodations (including diabetic meal handling), and limited meal variety. Activities and social programming are generally described positively, with recreational spaces and options such as table games noted as beneficial to residents’ engagement.

Facility- and equipment-related observations are similarly mixed. Several reviewers liked the facility’s appearance and decorating updates, but there are repeated mentions of equipment maintenance lapses (for example, concerns about oxygen concentrators, bed controls, and general upkeep). Cleanliness and odor concerns were raised alongside other reviews that described the environment as clean and welcoming, indicating variability across units or shifts.

Management and leadership comments are polarized. Some families observed improvements under new management and praised responsive directors and supervisors; others described inconsistent oversight, problematic supervisory conduct (including public reprimands), billing and administrative transparency issues, and limited after-hours phone responsiveness. Night-shift supervision and security availability were identified as weaker areas in multiple accounts. Language-access limitations, particularly a shortage of Spanish-speaking staff, were also noted.

Notable patterns: the strongest and most consistent positives are individualized, compassionate caregiving from specific CNAs/LVNs and a capable therapy department. The most significant concerns are operational: staffing variability, slow response to care needs, sanitation variability, medication and equipment-safety gaps, and inconsistent management practices. Families considering this facility should ask targeted questions about current staffing ratios, call-light response protocols, medication-safety policies, equipment maintenance schedules, infection-control practices, language support, and how the facility communicates with families after clinical incidents. Visiting in person, speaking with therapy and nursing leadership, and reviewing recent inspection or corrective-action documentation will help clarify whether the facility’s strengths outweigh the operational risks for a given resident’s needs.

About California Nursing & Rehabilitation Center

California Nursing & Rehabilitation Center sits over on North Indian Canyon Drive in Palm Springs and provides a range of skilled nursing and rehabilitation services for seniors and people with disabilities, and even though they aren't taking new patients right now, they've helped many by offering inpatient care with a team of nurses and therapists who know how to handle physical, occupational, and speech therapy, and they pay special attention to helping folks recover strength and independence, and that whole mental wellness part is covered with in-house mental health consulting along with community resources for things like opioid issues, suicide prevention, elder abuse, and disaster support, and they make sure everyone's got access to help with meals by way of dietary services plus laboratory services in-house for all those regular checkups and tests, and staff speak English but some can also help if you need another language, and while staying there, patients can use assistive devices to get around, find recreational activities, and use interactive tools like a symptom checker and behavioral health learning, and the center works hard to create treatment plans that fit each patient, focusing on both body and mind with the latest technology, community care resources, friendly amenities, and steady attention day and night, so you'll find a steady kind of all-around care balanced between physical recovery, mental health, and simple comforts, even if things are a little quieter now since they're not admitting new patients at this time.
