    Highly recommended compassionate memory care

I placed my dad here and overall I'm very pleased - the staff are warm, attentive, and clearly knowledgeable about memory care, with proactive communication and thoughtful medical updates. The building and rooms are immaculate, move-in was smooth, meals are good, and activities (music, games, outings) keep residents engaged; staff know residents by name and often go above and beyond. I feel confident in the care and would recommend this community to other families.

    Summary of reviews

Sunol Creek Memory Care receives substantial praise for its dementia-focused, person-centered approach. Strengths frequently described include compassionate, affectionate caregivers who learn residents’ names and preferences; clinical staff who provide ongoing assessments; and management and admissions staff who can be proactive and personable during intake. Many families describe improved mood, increased engagement, and an atmosphere that feels home-like, with private rooms, well-maintained common spaces, and a generally clean environment.

Dining and programming are also cited as positives in many accounts. Reviewers commonly mention good-quality meals, family events (barbecues, holiday brunches), and flexible dining options such as in-room service. Activity programming often includes brain-stimulating offerings (puzzles, games), music, arts-and-crafts, physical activities, and off-site outings that contribute to resident engagement and a sense of normalcy.

However, a number of operational concerns recur across reviews. Staffing consistency is a common theme: while many families report excellent caregiver-to-resident attention, others describe moments of understaffing, reduced engagement, or lapses in scheduled activities. Activity-program consistency appears uneven in some accounts, with reports of strong programming at times and gaps at other times (including leadership changes in activities). Several families also raised issues around billing practices, fee increases, and the expectation of additional paid one-to-one caregivers for higher-acuity needs.

Communication is another mixed area. Many reviewers praise attentive, proactive updates from nursing and management; yet there are specific instances describing delayed or unclear communication during critical incidents and during post-incident processes such as move-out or end-of-life transitions. A few families described problems with handling of personal property during move-out and delays in refunds, which point to process gaps rather than clinical shortcomings.

Leadership stability and responsiveness show variation across accounts: certain administrators and clinicians are singled out for strong leadership and clinical skill, while other comments indicate turnover or uneven follow-through on marketing promises. Practical issues such as the facility’s distance from some family members and related transportation logistics are also mentioned.

Overall, Sunol Creek appears well suited to memory-care residents who respond to structured, stimulating programming and individualized, affectionate caregiving. Prospective families should weigh the generally high marks for dementia expertise, cleanliness, dining, and social programming against recurring operational issues such as staffing consistency, activity continuity, fee transparency, and communication practices. When touring, families may wish to ask specific questions about current staffing ratios, the activity calendar and leadership, detailed billing policies (including one-to-one caregiver arrangements), and the facility’s protocols for critical-incident communication and move-out/property handling.

    About Sunol Creek Memory Care

Sunol Creek Memory Care sits about a mile from downtown Pleasanton and has served the area since 2014 as a stand-alone memory care community, welcoming folks with Alzheimer's, dementia, or Lewy Body dementia. The building's single story and secure layout help keep residents with memory loss safe, and the whole place is purpose-built for memory care, so there are helpful features like integrated nurse call systems, delayed egress exits, and special bracelets that prevent wandering. There are three different floor plans with private rooms, all designed for comfort and accessibility, and the team works to adjust care as needs change so seniors can age in place. Every room and hallway gets plenty of natural light, and there are secure courtyards, circular indoor walking paths, and activity rooms, which really do create an inviting, homelike atmosphere with two smaller, close-knit neighborhoods.

People at Sunol Creek can use the beauty salon, enjoy restaurant-style meals from a professional chef-with special diets like low sodium or low sugar as needed-and join in housekeeping, yoga, Tai Chi, art classes, karaoke, gardening, Wii bowling, and wine tasting. Residents don't have to join in if they don't feel like it, but there are always things happening, such as club meetings, cooking classes, visits from children and pets, trips outside, and celebrations for holidays and family gatherings. For those wanting spiritual support, there are worship services, meditation, music appreciation, and aromatherapy. Wi-Fi's available throughout the community, and you'll see a comfortable lobby, cozy living rooms, dining spaces, and even a community room meant to help people feel at home.

There are caregivers and licensed staff on-site 24/7, including a nurse, and a doctor on call, so medical care and complex medication management, including insulin administration, are possible. The team offers physical support, even for residents needing one- or two-person transfer assistance, uses mechanical lifts as required, and can care for those who have a tendency to wander. The community provides specialized plans for each person, with an emphasis on promoting autonomy and self-esteem, and there's a notable focus on aging in place and keeping residents as independent as possible for as long as possible.

Montessori-inspired activities, the signature SPARK program-recognized for excellence-and the LifeCycles Wellness Program aim to keep residents engaged in mind, body, and spirit. You'll find educational classes, crafts, trivia, games, baking, and supervised trips to help stimulate interest and keep days meaningful. The property's secure and easy to get to, especially for families in the East Bay, and provides respite and hospice care when needed. Sunol Creek's main goal is to offer compassionate, personalized, and safe care for people living with dementia in a clean, well-kept, and homelike environment.
