    Immaculate, caring, vibrant senior community

I moved my mom here and have been extremely pleased - a large, beautiful, immaculately kept community with bright, airy apartments (including spacious two-bedrooms and huge walk-in closets), lovely mountain views, and a resort-style dining room and public spaces. The staff - especially Rick and Lisa - are warm, professional, responsive and genuinely caring; services are comprehensive (salon, gyms, on-site rehab, 24-hour staff, town car, activities) and they even welcome service dogs. It's a classy, vibrant, family-feeling place with great food and activities - well worth checking out and I highly recommend it.

    Summary of reviews

Fairwinds - West Hills presents as an upscale, resort‑style senior living community with extensive amenities and an emphasis on hospitality. The campus is described as bright, modern, and well maintained: landscaped hilltop grounds, large windows with views, and interiors that convey a hotel‑like atmosphere. Apartment options span studios through two‑bedroom units, with select units offering in‑unit washers/dryers and spacious closets. Housekeeping and linen service are provided regularly, and public spaces include a library, movie theater, social hall, and computer room with Wi‑Fi.

Care and staffing are commonly cited strengths. The community operates with 24‑hour staffed coverage and offers on‑site rehabilitation and assisted‑living services. Many families described staff as attentive, compassionate, and responsive; several reviewers singled out individual staff and managers for effective onboarding and family communication. At the same time, there are recurring comments about inconsistent staff communication and occasional curt interactions at the front desk or during administrative exchanges. These observations suggest generally strong caregiving with intermittent conduct and responsiveness gaps at the administrative interface.

Dining is positioned as a leading feature: restaurant‑style service with all‑day access and a varied menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Many residents praised the food quality, salad options, and overall menu variety; others noted that low‑sodium or bland preparations can limit flavor for some diners, indicating variability in seasoning and menu execution. Dining service format and hours are a clear strength, but families should evaluate whether the cuisine and special‑diet preparations meet their individual preferences.

The activity program and amenities are robust. Reviewers described an active social calendar with arts and crafts, baking, language classes, holiday events, church services, fitness programs, and frequent opportunities for social engagement. Additional conveniences include a full‑service salon, small fitness rooms, town car/transportation services, and private mailboxes. That programming aligns the community with seniors seeking a lively, social lifestyle; several comments also noted that the campus can feel better suited to relatively independent, active residents than to those with progressive mobility or cognitive decline.

Operational limitations and patterns are notable for prospective residents and families. The community is positioned at a premium price point with a cash‑pay orientation; cost and affordability were frequently flagged as barriers. Clinically relevant service gaps include the absence of on‑site memory care and advanced skilled‑nursing options, and limited internal transition pathways for residents whose care needs increase. Practical concerns raised across reviews include small unit footprints for certain apartment types, occasional inconsistent climate control in common areas, and periodic delays or lack of clarity around financial/billing communication.

In summary, Fairwinds - West Hills is a well‑maintained, service‑rich community that emphasizes hospitality, social programming, and onsite rehabilitation/assisted living. It is likely to appeal to active seniors and families seeking a resort‑style environment with extensive amenities and attentive caregiving. Families with tighter budgets or who anticipate needing higher‑acuity memory care or skilled‑nursing services should weigh the facility’s limited clinical escalation options and its higher cost structure. Additionally, visitors should evaluate unit sizes, flavor preferences for special diets, and administrative communication processes as part of their selection process.

    About Fairwinds - West Hills

Fairwinds - West Hills sits in a quiet spot on the edge of the San Fernando Valley and offers a wide range of living options, so folks who live there can have independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, or even home care if they need it as they age, and the staff sticks around all day and night, so there's always help close by and every apartment has an emergency call system just in case. The community has studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments, many with two bathrooms, and the place feels pretty cheerful and cozy with living rooms by the fireplace and courtyards with tiered fountains and raised garden beds that are easy to reach. Residents spend time in the activity and game rooms or visit the full-service salon, wellness center, and PrimeFit gym, which has weights and aerobic steps for folks who like to stay active, and there's a business center with computers, a television room, two libraries with comfortable chairs, and a Nintendo Wii for games.

The community promotes a hospitality-based living style with a focus on personalized care, offering all kinds of support, like home health visits, memory care for folks with Alzheimer's disease and dementia, and assistance with daily activities that is tailored to each person's needs, and the options are pretty flexible so people get only the help they want. Socializing happens in many spots, like the coffee bar, lounge, game rooms, or the cafe and bistro area, and there's a grand dining room with chandeliers, set tables, and even a piano, plus a private dining room for family get-togethers, and those who enjoy events can find something to do almost every day with a full calendar of art classes, BrainHQ cognitive games, and even travel plans through the onsite Travel by Leisure Care program and their Twist travel agency.

Residents can bring pets, use complimentary laundry, keep a private mailbox, or relax at the gazebo and landscaped gardens, and off-street parking is available as well as transportation around town in a 14-passenger bus or by private rides. The facility takes pride in providing Five-Star Fun with entertainment and trips, and there's a concierge service, a guest services supervisor, and sales advisors like Rick Waugh and Joe Flores to help answer questions. The property is managed by Leisure Care which has been around for over 30 years, and the team keeps a close eye on each resident's care plan, adjusting as needs change, so there's a sense of stability for people who want to stay put even when their health or situation changes. Fairwinds - West Hills aims to help seniors feel comfortable, active, and cared for, whether folks want a lively community with lots of activities or a peaceful place to enjoy the courtyard with their neighbors.
