    Warm safe loving assisted living

I toured this community (found via A Place For Mom) and I'm very happy with my choice. Rooms and facilities are spotless and comfortable, costs are reasonable, and the full staff - from nurse/owner Mylene to caregivers Carmina and Kenneth and the cooks - truly take pride in caring: they monitor vitals/meds, arrange doctor visits, do hair/makeup/nails, and run fun activities. Pets (our dog Shaggy) and drop-in visitors are welcome, dining is flexible, and hospice care is supported. I highly recommend this warm, safe, loving place.

    Summary of reviews

Overall impression from the summaries is positive: families emphasize a caring, home-like culture led by an owner with nursing experience and reinforced by caregivers described as warm and attentive. Clinical oversight is highlighted, with routine monitoring of vital signs, medication administration, and facilitation of physician visits. Reviewers also note personal-care offerings such as hair, makeup, and nail services, as well as consistent attention to residents' appearance and grooming.

Staffing and day-to-day care are framed as strengths. Caregivers are characterized as treating residents like family, and specific staff members were named favorably. Management appears to support a resident-centered approach: flexible visitation, drop-in visitor policies, acceptance of hospice services, and allowance of pets are all described as part of the facility’s operational approach. Costs are described as reasonable, and reviewers report comfortable rooms and a full complement of caregiving and food-service staff.

Dining and activities are presented positively. Flexible dining hours and an open-access meal policy are important conveniences noted by families, and the activity program contributes to a social, engaging environment. The presence of a friendly dog and other pet-friendly elements is cited as enhancing the community feel.

Facilities receive mixed-but-leaning-positive comments. Multiple summaries describe clean, well-maintained, and spotless areas, but at least one account raised cleanliness expectations that were not fully met; this suggests some variability in housekeeping or sanitation standards. A specific environmental concern is the facility’s hard-surface flooring; reviewers suggested it could affect resident balance. Prospective residents with mobility limitations should assess flooring and fall-mitigation measures during a visit.

Patterns to note for prospective families: the facility’s strengths center on individualized, attentive caregiving, robust clinical monitoring, and a welcoming, flexible community culture. Areas to clarify on a tour include current housekeeping protocols and specific fall-prevention measures related to hard flooring, as well as any individualized care plans for residents with mobility or sanitation needs. Overall recommendations from reviewers are strongly positive, with a few caveats around cleanliness consistency and environmental safety for residents at risk of imbalance.

About Home Care of West Hills #1

Home Care of West Hills #1 is a small, licensed residential care home for seniors in West Hills, California, with six beds and a focus on Alzheimer's care, assisted living, and home care services, so folks who need daily help or memory care get round-the-clock supervision, help with bathing, dressing, and taking medicine, and there's always someone around if someone needs help getting up or moving around, especially if someone uses a wheelchair or has trouble walking, and the staff also washes clothes, cleans rooms, and reminds residents about appointments and pills, which makes life easier for everyone not wanting to worry about those little things. The community keeps things simple and cozy, with private, furnished rooms, phones in each room, and shared areas where residents can relax, read, or chat with staff and neighbors, plus the garden and walking paths give folks chances to go outside, get some fresh air, or just watch the day go by. Meal services include scheduled meals made for allergies, diabetes, low sugar, or low salt, and there's a choice of all-day dining, plus guest meals if someone's family comes by, and if there's a need for no sugar foods they can do that, and they aim to keep food healthy and give people options. The place runs like a board and care home, but also helps with independent living, memory care, and even short-term care, offering activities that get the mind going and help people stay active, with on-site devotional services for any spiritual needs, and the staff can bring in outside medical professionals if someone's health needs change, and they're used to working with different types of care plans, all in a setting that's a bit like living in a family home rather than a big institution. The home supports folks with high needs, like those who need help with insulin, incontinence, or personal care, and also tries to make life social with community activities, transportation, and even Wi-Fi for folks who want to stay connected. The location's close to parks, shops, and hospitals, so getting out or seeing a doctor isn't too much trouble, and they're able to adjust care as residents' needs change over time, serving those who want some independence as well as those needing more daily assistance, with staff who understand memory issues and how to help keep people with Alzheimer's or dementia safe and calm. They take pride in offering a place where older adults can feel at home, get personal attention, and have help whenever it's needed, with a focus on safety, respect, and keeping life as easy as it can be as the years go on.
